I retained Mr Ugo a year ago to help me file immigration docs. A year later I learned through USCIS that he has not followed up with proper filing. Sadly Mr Ugo lacks the professionalism to follow up with the services he offers. Now a year later I had to hire another group of lawyers so they can finish the job this guy " forgot" to do. He barely answer his phone or email. Be aware.

Do not believe all this five stars reviews. They are all fake. Super unprofessional, I hired him for a hearing and he was late for several hours. When he came finally, he was unprepared and screwed up case. Always asked for more and more money. Regret to hire him.

I was in removal proceedings and Ugo helped me get my green card through my husband. The judge granted me relief last month. I’m grateful to have had a lawyer that was very easy to contact. Hopefully we wouldn’t need an immigration lawyer again but if we do we’ll definitely work with him again.

After a terrible experience with a previous lawyer I was fortunate enough to be referred to Ugo. Simply put, he got the job done! My wife’s case was far from simple and after 4 years of back and forth with the Immigration process, she was finally approved for her Green card. He was efficient, transparent, and affordable. Lastly, as mentioned early, we had a rough process so we came we tons of questions and concerned and Ugo was always there for us with answers. I highly recommend his services.

Mr. Ugeh took on my case after I hired a previous lawyer and things weren’t moving in a positive direction. He was always professional, punctual and also very efficient. His entire approach to my case was different and I was confident in victory from a very early stage. He exercised every possible resource to ensure victory and he delivered. His knowledge and strategic approach are just two of the reasons why I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of his type of legal representation.

Got referred to Mr. O’ Sullivan by another great lawyer , once I reached out to him he told me that he would happily take care of my traffic infractions. When our court date was approaching he didn’t guarantee me anything but he was confident that we would come out of court with an awesome deal and on the day of court did. He got an unlicensed operator ticket and another ticket I had that was worth 4 points on my licensed both dropped down to 3 J walking tickets with low fines and no points so I was beyond happy and he is highly recommended for his professionalism all across the board

Mr. O'Sullivan did a great job for me and had a very reasonable fee. I had a speeding ticket in NYC worth 6 points and he was a tremendous help. He is friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He was very on top of assisting me through the process and was very responsive to my questions and concerns. Overall a great experience with a good outcome!

I have hired Dennis on more than one occasion for some serious traffic speeding violations both in the city and upstate. He did a phenomenal job in getting my point lowered to practically O or very close. He really goes the extra mile and is a very seasoned attorney.

I'm a small business owner and after doing a ton of due diligence trying to find the right lawyer for my case, I had the opportunity to meet and work with Eli Babaev ESQ. Before making my decision, I met with other lawyers in law firms just to get a feel of what was out there. I am very happy and grateful that I made the decision to work with Eli Babaev. He has an amazing ability to communicate effectively and his attentiveness towards my case was something that won't be forgotten. Responded to my calls and emails right away and was very knowledgable. He handled everything strategically, achieving a successful outcome that we both wanted and hoped for. Eli was a real pleasure to work with and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a great personal injury lawyer.

Kareem was my mock trial coach years ago at St. John’s. His reputation preceded him because he was the best advocate in the country. Literally. We all looked up to Kareem. Since law school, Kareem went on to achieve tremendous success as a trial attorney in NYC. But what is most impressive about Kareem is his unwavering commitment to social justice, civil rights, and serving as a voice to his community right in the heart of Queens. His integrity is beyond reproach. I consider him an inspiration to this day.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Jamaica, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
