I recently leased a car and got scammed by a dealership in Long island New York. Upon coming home i reviewed my paper work and noticed that it had been switched and the price was almost 10k of what i had agreed upon. i contacted them immediately and was told that although i was right that it was to late to make any corrections and i would just have to deal with. The scammers eventually stopped taking my calls. I knew i would have to retain a lawyer to be able to recoup any of my money. I reached out to a number of so called super lawyers and was most never even returned my calls and the ones that did all said the same thing. That Although i indeed got scammed my case was not worth there time. i was extremely upset frustrated beginning to think these scammers would get away with it. I refused to give up and continued my search and eventually came across David Kasell. Not only did David evaluate my case for free but agreed to take it on. Knowing my situation David agreed to work with me on his fees and we came to a very reasonable agreement. I submitted all my evidence and David assured me he would make things right. He kept in touch and was happy to answer any questions or concerns i had. To make a long story short not only did David get me a settlement check but he did so even faster than i expected. Apparently the dealership knew he meant business and wanted no parts of going to a trail. If it wasn't for David i would still be out thousands and the scamming dealership would likely have got away with ripping me off. I hope no one ever finds themselves in a similar situation but if you do the good news is David is only a phone call away. Cant say enough about how good and professional this man is, if only all lawyers were like him the world would be a better place. Id like to say Thanks David your efforts saved this hard working man being out thousands and unnecessary hardship. If it wasn't for you its likely these scammers/frauds would have got away with it. I highly recommend this attorney!

I hired David Kasell to represent me on a lemon law case with a difficult manufacturer, after I had completed the arbitration process and it was found in my favor. The process took months and was extremely complex, and David used his knowledge and experience to navigate it wonderfully and guide me to a resolution that was exactly what we asked for, and were legally entitled to. Throughout the process, David stayed on top of the manufacturer's Counsel and continually advocated for me, while keeping me up to date and providing guidance along the way. I would recommend David to anyone who needs this sort of help.

I purchased a car from the dealership online. The car looked great in the pictures and the salesman said there was no issues with the car. When the car was delivered 14 days later and was able to look at it in person there was damage to the car / problems not identified by the car dealer to me. The estimated damage to repair was 15k. The dealership would not answer my calls and put me on hold until it hung up on me. Also, I did not receive title to the car so I couldn't register the car in my state. After 30 days of this going on I called Kasell law firm to get this taken care of. David took them to Federal court and was able to get me out of the car loan and have the car picked up by the dealership. If it wasn't for David Kasell I would have been stuck with the car and the repairs. He stayed on top of my case and provided updates. He is a very honest person and does what he says. I appreciate everything he did for me and highly recommend him if you are in a bad situation.

Because I didn’t have any experience in purchasing a car, I felt I was totally taken advantage of. I purchased a car from a dealership I had been leasing from for years. Imagine my surprise when this dealership’s finance manager, with whom I had been dealing with for so long, intentionally overcharged me, and then told me I had signed the papers; as if there wasn’t anything I could do about it. I never needed an attorney for a problem like this, so I turned to the internet. In my search, I read quite a few reviews about this type of situation but, the reviews that stayed with me the most, were for David Kasell of Kasell Law Firm. Even though his address was in Long Island, and I resided in The Bronx, I was impressed. After explaining my plight, he gave me a number of things to do, which I did. He read everything I forwarded to him. He made me feel like he was deeply concern. It didn’t happen overnight, but David Kasell, kept assuring me that everything was going to be all right. Lo and behold, the dealership ended up paying me. If you or anyone you know are having problems with car dealerships, trust me. David Kasell is for you.

Ms. Pritchard walked me through every detail so that I understood completely what was going on when constructing my will, and asked questions about issues I hadn't even considered. Very satisfied.

Maureen is awesome, patient and organized. She helped us create our Wills and guardianship documents after walking us through the different options for estate planning. We feel very confident in how our assets and legacy will be passed to our children, and can't thank Maureen enough for that peace of mind!

Maureen was able to get a settlement for our child who was injured at a young age. She rejected two settlement offers that were too low and made sure our daughter got what she deserved. She was always very prompt with responses to all our questions and excellent with communication.

I was a student at one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the US, and undoubtedly, the world. I had been away on a medical leave of absence for a year after my first year and the school was giving me a difficult time getting back in. I contacted several lawyers, consulted with quite a few, all to have each and every one of them say there was nothing that could be done to get this institution to allow me to continue at that point in time. I had to do what the school asked. In the mix of lawyers contacted was Mr. Ricotta's firm. One morning, soon after I had left that message on their answering machine (I had left the message on a holiday), Mr. Ricotta called me back. Both Mr. Ricotta and Mr. Marks treated me with respect, and as a human being, not just as a client. They talked me through the whole process, gave me good advice and got the job done! It was smooth sailing for me, and I am sure that this was all because they worked hard for me. To go head-to-head with this school is no mean task. They have some of the best lawyers money can buy, but this firm came through and worked without the least hint of apprehension when all others turned me down. Today, almost a year from when this all happened, I can proudly say I am a graduate of this prestigious institution, all thanks to Mr. Ricotta and Mr. Marks!

I feel very much protected and supported by his and his team. In my opinion, it doesn't get any better than any Matt. Hire him b/c he is simply the best and I promise you will be satisfied with the work performed.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Long Island City, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
