Against All Odds I recently found myself in the position of having to stand trial and face serious criminal charges with no witnesses on my behalf and with several people alleging that I committed multiple counts of assault and other criminal behavior. Having lost my girlfriend to cancer – and having lost my job for taking time off to care for her – I was broke and living in debt while trying to rebuild my life. One night, while driving my cab, I was confronted by several persons who were intoxicated and looking for a fight. By the time the police arrived, they had agreed on a story and convinced the arresting officer that I was the aggressor. I was assigned a public defender and, since I was going up against law enforcement and multiple so-called witnesses, I thought that my days as a free man were numbered. That public defender turned out to be Jeffrey Schonbrun who listened to my side of the story, gathered information, and put together a defense that ultimately convinced the jury that I did not commit these felonious acts. I could not have found a better attorney at any price who would have been more conscientious and thorough than Mr. Schonbrun.
