I was recently arrested and falsely accused by a proprietor of a business. Upon appearing in Manhattan court for a D.A.T pertaining to this matter I must admit the taste of discuss the NYPD left with me was/is horrendous. Adam approached me and immediately upon speaking with me he could feel my frustration emanating, especially after sharing false claims/ allegations made in a spruced up report by an officer. His warm and understanding demener instilled in me a new confidence and hope of justice. He almost makes me look forward to my next appearance. This guy so far has given me a glimmer of hope that good representation is possible. I look forward to having his defense enlighten my lack of fair treatment and due process. THANKYOU SIR!!!!

I recently hired Adam to represent me for my DWI arrest on the Westside hwy. I had refused the breathalyzer in the precinct on the advice of a friend of mine that was an attorney but not the type of attorney you want giving you legal advice on DWI's. I was arrested on a Sunday evening and needed to spend the night in the tombs. My wife called my sister who is an attorney and asked her to find a lawyer and my sister must have made over 20 phone calls to lawyers asking for recommendations for DWI attorneys she advised that multiple people had brought up Adam's name and when she told me "I have never heard an attorney refer to another attorney as an amazing lawyer but even better person" I knew I needed to go with Adam. My wife had the initial communication with him but even she raved about how easy he was to talk to him. He wasn't able to make it to my initial court hearing the night I got out because he was in California on business but he had one of his associates come. Honestly you could probably save yourself 1.5-2k by not having an attorney because nothing actually happens at the hearing where you're released but I would have paid 5k just to get out of that place so I didn't care. When Adam and I first met I introduced myself said to him "after all of this is said and done, I hope I can say that hiring you was one of the best decisions of my life", and even that is not enough at this point. Adam was so honest with me but yet the way he carried out the conversation I still felt reassured that the best possible outcome was going to happen. I'm a realistic person, I know that if a lawyer tells me that there's a 100% chance of me getting completely off that he's just blowing smoke but Adam wasn't like that. He actually wanted to know about who I was, where I came from, the circumstances of the evening and things leading up to that evening. He really spent his time trying to find out who I was so that he could humanize this terribly unfortunate mistake I made. The NYS stance on refusals is no pleas and he told me that it rarely happens the first time, but that if we were persistent there was a possibly we would prevail. Adam scheduled a meeting with me to review all of the court documents and get my take on everything and also did his due diligence in trying to find discrepancies in the court that he could use, not only if we needed to go to court but also in trying to persuade the ADA to submit a reduced plea. The first hearing came and went and no plea. Obviously I was very disappointed but Adam once again, reassured me that this wasn't the end of the road. Adam was so persistent with the ADA, constantly communicating with him and seeing where things stood, I really knew that he had my best interest at heart. Sure enough, in the days leading up to the second and final hearing before we would have needed to go to court the ADA sent Adam a message with the reduced plea. No misdemeanor, not ignition lock, a license suspension reduced form 1 year to 90 days and I think $450 in fines. When Adam heard the news he immediately called me, emailed me and texted me. You could just tell he was so excited that we got exactly what we wanted. Overall, if you read this, regardless of what your DWI/DUI situation is, you will 100% be making the right decision to go with Adam to represent you. Adam, if you ever read this, I am forever indebted to you!!

Getting tangled up in the NYC court system is not a fun experience by any means. Adam made my experience with it about as smooth as possible and got probably the best possible result for my case. I chose Adam as he had gone 3 for 3 with friends of mine getting the best possible results in their cases. Now as my case is almost a year behind me, I can say I made the right decision choosing Mr. Mehrfar. He handled my case with confidence and finesse, communicating with me every step of the way and never leaving me in the dark about what was going on. Having an attorney that has these attributes is so important when put in a position that can be so life changing. Adam obviously has a great reputation and relationship with the people in the NY justice system, which goes a long way. If you want to feel confident that your lawyer will get you the best possible result in your case, hire Adam!

I was picked up by the police for a prior "misunderstanding" at 6am without a clue to what was happening. Adam, and his capable team, were not only accessible, they helped me navigate - in real-time - the situation as it unfolded. He was diligent, informative and consultative throughout the entire matter. Through his expertise and attention, I was able to avoid a felony being placed on my record. I highly recommend for important legal matters.

Judith is my company's business attorney and is very well versed in what she does. Plus, she is understanding and thoughtful in her solutions to anything that could arise. She recently assisted us with a client issue that came up unexpectedly and it was resolved successfully. I doubt that we would have been able to resolve the issue without her assistance.

David consulted with us on a recent Breach of Contract case. He was professional and insightful and took the time to really understand the situation and the outcome we were looking for. It was very clear that he had our best interests in mind, not just some sort of settlement/resolution that would be easier or convenient for him. A true professional and look forward to working with him again.

I was a former MD in finance, & after 30+ years of marriage, at just under 60 yrs. old, I retained Donald early 2015. My court approved final consensual settlement was processed in December 2019. (Timing was my ex's fault, she explored 3 attorneys in sequence.) I got to know Don fairly well over that time. He prefers a consensual agreement between parties, NOT court battles. - i suspect that his style minimizes the parties' angst, and doesn't maximize his billable hours per case. Speaking of which, he bills in 1/10 hour increments... and I found his bills always accurate and fair. (I've worked with lots of law firms professionally). Donald was always calm and cool even when I found retracing repeat issues with my ex supremely frustrating. He never fanned the flames. Importantly, because of some odd investments I had, Don was quick and effective at reaching tax, finance and accounting specialists whose input we needed to factor into our settlement. Weird bottom line, If I ever had to get divorced again, [which I will never never] I'd retain Donald.

I highly recommend Don as a divorce attorney. From the beginning he showed himself to be a man of integrity and knowledge. Unlike other attorneys, Don was not out to try to run up a bill that was not necessary. He advised me to try to work out as much as possible with my ex-spouse before getting him involved. He is somebody who I was always able to count on and I always knew that my interests were primary in his negotiations.

I did not know of Don at the time of my divorce; however, when my attorney was retiring, he referred me to Don. I had numerous issues with my ex-husband an Don took the control and stress from me. He quickly diffused the situation and was instrumental in ensuring my children's welfare.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New York, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
