It is with gratitude that I leave this review. As a client, I can attest that what Miedle & Mysliwiec LLP says they do is what they do. Mr. Mysliwiec spent time getting to know me and made sure he understood every aspect of my case. I've witnessed him and his assistant working tirelessly, crossing every T and dotting every I. I was not just a "case" or a "number". They put their heart into representing me, walking me through the process with respect, dedication, and integrity. It paid off. I was found not guilty on all counts. I believe that Mr. Mysliwiec was and is a Godsent. The work he does is not just legal; it is righteous. I highly recommend him and his firm.

I was referred to Aaron by a friend with whom he had worked at the Bronx Defenders office, and when I first met him, I was nervous, confused, and in need of answers. During our initial consultation, he did more than just answer my questions. He listened, he was attentive, and he cared. Equally important, he clearly knew the law, was resourceful, and was committed to helping me with my case, whatever it took. As others have noted, his communication was unparalleled, as he always made time to address any questions or concerns I had. When you're facing an uncertain future, I can't stress enough how crucial this is. During my ordeal, I discovered that law is rarely binary: right vs wrong, allowed vs prohibited. Aaron is that rare critical thinker who understands this. Yes, he has decades of experience, but perhaps more importantly, he is smart and intuitive. Ultimately, the charges against me were dropped. Yes, I saw them as meritless, but to make the point, Aaron was my voice. I can not recommend him highly enough.

I was in a panic when I was first brought on federal criminal charges. Ahead of my first court appearance, Aaron took time on a weekend to consult with me as I was selecting legal representation. He listened, offered insights, and made critical counterpoints to assumptions I had going in to defend against the charges. He was articulate and empathetic. Over the course of the next months, both Aaron and firm partner Florian Miedel made my choices clear and respected my commitment to the harm reduction ethics and values being challenged in the case. He was responsive to my many questions by text and email day or night. I am grateful for his knowledge of the legal system, his work with the well-respected Bronx Defenders, and his capability to hold strong with the prosecution to ensure that I was in the best position throughout the experience until my case was dismissed.

I started this process in December 2014.. I called a few lawyers and was discouraged. I read some reviews about Aaron and said that I needed to give him a call! Making that call, changed my life. When initially speaking with Aaron, I knew that I would hire him. He was honest and upfront. I was arrested for possession and sale of a controlled substance. I made a mistake at a party and got into a bad situation. I'm a professional who works a full time job. Aaron was always flexible with working around my schedule to ensure that I was able to talk at times that were comfortable for me. This process took about a year and I remained in contact with Aaron at least twice a month. He always kept me involved with any moving pieces. I am glad to say that this case is now resolved. All charges were dropped and I plead to disorderly conduct. A violation, which is non criminal defense. Keep in mind my initial charges were felony charges. I walked out of the court room ecstatic! Again, Aaron is a great lawyer. And I hope whoever reads this, finds this review helpful. It's not easy selecting a lawyer, but trust me when I tell you, Aaron is a great choice!

About a year and a half ago, I was facing some serious legal charges that could have resulted in serious jail time and possibly deportation from the United States. I had spoken to a few lawyers before being introduced to Aaron and honestly, they made me feel as though there was no hope for me in my situation. Seeing as though this was my first run in with the law, I was nervous, I was scared, I did not know what to do. I even had one lawyer tell me to just "go do the time you will be fine after no big deal". I was told about Aaron Mysliwiec by a friend who highly recommended that I give him a call. Facing felony grand larceny in the 2nd degree charges I figured why not... So I called up Aaron, we scheduled a meeting to meet at his office and we discussed my situation at length. I told him what happened and why and he was very honest and told me both the good and the bad possible outcomes in my case. He explained the process of surrendering myself to the cops, going through the system, getting bail posted and fighting the case from the outside. Up until that meeting I just assumed there was only one option for me and that was jail. At the end of our first meeting, I walked away feeling better that I had someone representing who cared about his clients and wanted to do the best job for them that he could possibly do. The days leading up to me surrendering myself to the cops, Aaron and I spoke daily. He wanted to see how I was dealing with it and constantly told me it was going to be fine. At my arraignment, he was there talking to my girlfriend and helping her get through it as well.. the attention that he gave me was unbelievable. I had never met this guy before but yet he made me feel as though we had known each other for years. As the case progressed, Aaron and I were on the phone daily. He kept me updated with everything that went on with the prosecutor. Anything I needed to know he would tell me, anything he thought I should know, he would call me and tell me. At one point in between court appearances, he had to leave town but he still made himself available to me if I had any questions. At the end of the case, I received a very favorable deal that resulted in no jail time. Which was what I was hoping for. I don't think one mistake makes you a bad person and I think he sees the good in people. All I wanted to do was do right by the victim in my case and repay my debt and get my life back on track. The effort put forth by Aaron and the compassion that he showed was unbelievable. I would recommend Aaron to anyone, any day, anytime. The absolute best!

Judith is my company's business attorney and is very well versed in what she does. Plus, she is understanding and thoughtful in her solutions to anything that could arise. She recently assisted us with a client issue that came up unexpectedly and it was resolved successfully. I doubt that we would have been able to resolve the issue without her assistance.

David consulted with us on a recent Breach of Contract case. He was professional and insightful and took the time to really understand the situation and the outcome we were looking for. It was very clear that he had our best interests in mind, not just some sort of settlement/resolution that would be easier or convenient for him. A true professional and look forward to working with him again.

I was a former MD in finance, & after 30+ years of marriage, at just under 60 yrs. old, I retained Donald early 2015. My court approved final consensual settlement was processed in December 2019. (Timing was my ex's fault, she explored 3 attorneys in sequence.) I got to know Don fairly well over that time. He prefers a consensual agreement between parties, NOT court battles. - i suspect that his style minimizes the parties' angst, and doesn't maximize his billable hours per case. Speaking of which, he bills in 1/10 hour increments... and I found his bills always accurate and fair. (I've worked with lots of law firms professionally). Donald was always calm and cool even when I found retracing repeat issues with my ex supremely frustrating. He never fanned the flames. Importantly, because of some odd investments I had, Don was quick and effective at reaching tax, finance and accounting specialists whose input we needed to factor into our settlement. Weird bottom line, If I ever had to get divorced again, [which I will never never] I'd retain Donald.

I highly recommend Don as a divorce attorney. From the beginning he showed himself to be a man of integrity and knowledge. Unlike other attorneys, Don was not out to try to run up a bill that was not necessary. He advised me to try to work out as much as possible with my ex-spouse before getting him involved. He is somebody who I was always able to count on and I always knew that my interests were primary in his negotiations.

I did not know of Don at the time of my divorce; however, when my attorney was retiring, he referred me to Don. I had numerous issues with my ex-husband an Don took the control and stress from me. He quickly diffused the situation and was instrumental in ensuring my children's welfare.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New York, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
