In 2012, I engaged Elizabeth Barna for my asylum case, based on a friend's recommendation. Unfortunately, this recommendation was misleading, as my friend's case was still pending and eventually rejected, a fact I was unaware of at the time. Despite this, my initial consultation with Elizabeth seemed promising. She attentively listened to my account, charging $250 for the consultation and requesting an $8,400 fee upfront, which I paid after borrowing money, influenced by my friend's high praise. However, the process soon revealed significant shortcomings. Elizabeth's husband, Probe Roy, presented himself as a fellow attorney, but his actions were more aligned with those of a deceitful opportunist rather than a professional. Elizabeth, while initially appearing competent, spent an excessive four months preparing my case, ultimately submitting an application that seemed to be a direct transcription of my initial narrative, filled with errors and lacking in professional polish. This oversight, which I regret not questioning at the time, was indicative of a broader lack of diligence and care in handling my case. Throughout the subsequent years, as my interview date loomed, communication with Elizabeth's office became increasingly problematic. Not only did Elizabeth fail to respond to critical emails, especially during a distressing period when I was detained by ICE, but her office also lacked confidentiality, carelessly discussing client cases openly. Preparation for my interview was alarmingly inadequate. Elizabeth and her team's last-minute efforts resulted in a hastily prepared file, missing crucial evidence such as important photographs, directly impacting my confidence and the interview's outcome. Despite Elizabeth's attempt to assist remotely due to illness, the preparation was insufficient, culminating in a request for me to cover taxi expenses for her employee's late-night efforts—a request that felt inappropriate given the circumstances. Ultimately, my asylum application was rejected. It was only after hiring another attorney, who approached my case with the thoroughness and professionalism it deserved, including multiple mock interviews, that my application was finally approved in end of 2023 due to cancel IJ appointment in 2020 and rescheduled in 2023. This experience has been a stark reminder of the importance of selecting legal representation with care, including considering attorneys who offer payment plans to allow for flexibility in the attorney-client relationship. While my experience with Elizabeth Barna and her team was disheartening, it serves as a personal account and a caution to others to rigorously vet potential legal representation and to ensure open, effective communication and professional handling of their case.

Her husband & assistant Provir roy took $7000 to me for asylum case but she doesn’t go court . That’s why my case was denied and immigration returned him to his country

Lawyer needs to attention, I went to the lawyer office to get my work permit then Probir Roy her husband say I have to pay all my balance then he will handover my work permit. How can he ask for all money while my case still on process. Then I asked him is that green card or work permit ??? I paid to the federal fee and I paid the lawyer office fee too for work permit application to Khadijah apu. Now my question what rights he have to stop my work permit. This is not kind of crime? For that the reasons I had a lots of hard time and struggle. I want my justice. Thanks.
