The worst experience I have ever had with hired help. I retained Tom 2 years ago for a simple reimbursement case. I provided all receipts and correspondence. I have yet to see a single dollar from my ex or get past a single court date without the petition being dismissed for mistakes from his office, or withdrawn- for reasons unknown to me, still. When we had a court date, he would go weeks or months without contacting me to tell me how it went. I was always forced to hound him to refile! This is absurd behavior from an attorney. He was always calling me kiddo. I am a 34 year old single mother who has retained your services. Not appropriate. I constantly felt like I was being blown off and not taken seriously. In NYS, you are supposed to received billing statements from your attorney every 60 days. I have never once received one in 2 years. So I asked for one- no response. Two weeks later, asked again- received an unprofessional, 1 sentence response. 2 weeks after that- still nothing. I’m filing a complaint with the NYS bar, who was very interested in my experience with Tom; I suggest anyone else who has had similar experiences with this attorney do the same. I feel victimized by my own attorney and that should never happen.

I have to remain anonymous because of my ongoing case. But reading reviews, this lawyer I know has his own way. We all get frustrated its court !! Its our lives! But the cases I read where hes the worst? Really? Theres so much more to cases. I've had my own frustration but that's not his fault. Hes done everything I've asked and some. He is not biast he needs facts he goes off the truth. Hes honest and he understands. And well hes dealing with all our personal issues give the guy a break. We all have them hes human it didnt affect his job or guy up there u would of done legal action. I've taken my own crap out on him and he still does what he does. If the case was lost you cant blame other people for our messes we pay them to help clean it up. And maybe you shouldn't hit your child or tell your lawyer that. ! My experience is crazy bc I have a terrible ex. But he does look you in the eye that's his thing! Hes a good lawyer and will fight for you when he knows you've been dealt a hand that is ridiculous!

Nine years ago Mr.Caserta helped me win sole custody of my son. He works very hard for you when he goes to court with the childs best intrest at heart. If you listen to him and give him all the information he can use against your ex he knows family law and In my opinion he is the best choice for a family lawyer. I will use his services again and recomened him to anyone going through a custody battle. He is worth every dollar I paid him to make shure I won sole custody of my son. Thank You Mr.Thomas caserta

My family's world was turned up side down by my exes actions. I started calling lawyers to find out what to do, where to start, for help and how to proceed with our new situation. I set up 3 consultations with other attorneys, who's secretaries would give me nothing but an appointment and their typical retainer fee for this type of case. Frustrated with how insincere and scripted the staff sounded I was not impressed and more of a wreck then before. I called Tom's office and his staff was different from the minute they answered, unlike the others no money was talked about, instead she told me he would call me before I had to be to work. He called me and from the minute I answered I knew he was what I was looking for. He took the time, listened to my concerns, genuinely cared, and put my worries to rest. I never went to any scheduled consolations but the one I set up with him. He and his staff went above and beyond for me, always made me comfortable, like I was a priority and they were happy to do anything they could to ease my mind. He got me the results I was looking for. Tom is a wonderful attorney and worked hard to achieve an even better end result for my new family then I asked for or was expecting. I have and will continue to recommend him and his staff. If your looking for someone to represent you save yourself the frustration and make him your first call!!!

Mr Koryl is the most kind and compassionate man I have ever met. He has been completely dedicated from the moment we first spoke. His knowledge and professionalism separates him from the rest. My wages were being garnished from a collection agency. They claimed they won a judgement from 5 years ago that I didn't respond to. I wasted my money with 1 lawyer and I was told by another lawyer that I didn't have a case. A legal service referred me to Sam. Sam clearly explained the legalities and was honest about my options. He asked questions that helped him to better understand my situation. His price was very fair considering all the work he has done. He is very responsive to my inquiries and has a very fast turnaround. I would highly recommend him!

  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Niagara Falls, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
