“Robert lets you know what 'can' be done. In my experience with him, he gladly explained things and did so simply; he charted a course of action; and went the extra mile on due diligence and it's that extra bit of due diligence along with his thorough knowledge of the subject that put the final nail in the plaintiff's coffin.”

He made me feel comfortable and I trusted him from the beginning he worked pro bono and explained all fees etc. At the end Robert Nahoum won our case I got paid, He got paid, And we were happy about the outcome.”
4
Compassionate and understanding approach

I have never needed a lawyer before but I am super grateful that Robert Jeremy Nahoum was my first. He is super friendly and knowledgable even under stressful situations. Given I have never been through this kind of thing before he was very supportive and patient with me. Everything turned out great in the end and I will be keeping his number, hoping I wont need it again but if I do he's my go to! He's truly the best and very genuine!

I contacted Rob through a link I saw on the internet, concerning a particular collection agency. I consulted with Rob and based on his responses I hired him straight away. From that point on I was confident that I made the right decision. Needless to say, the result was in my favor. Even if it did not, I would recommend Rob hands down. You will be educated, advised and responded to every step of the way. Thanks Rob, job well done!

Steve Abel handled divorce and custody issues for me over a large stretch of years. He is patient in explaining procedure and was great in helping to cope with all the emotions that are associated with divorce and custody battles. He is a great advocate for his clients.

I used Steve for my divorce mediation as well as for my will. Steve is regarded by most as the best matrimonial mediator in Rockland County. He guided us through a complicated mediation process quickly. He was mindful of what was fair and reasonable. He advocated for both my ex-wife and for me. He routinely reminded us that this would be difficult but that the benefits or mediation were worth the effort. Steve communicated effectively acting as our mediator but also as a therapist to get us through the process. I've had the opportunity to work with Steve in a matrimonial court. I observed the respect that the judge had for his opinion, experience and his sense of fairness. Without reservation, I would recommend Steve to anybody seeking a smart and able mediator.

Stuart Meyer, Esq. handled my necessities hearing and my divorce. My divorce case had already been in progress for four years when Stuart assumed my representation from the firm’s senior partner handling it. At that point, I had perpetually been under siege and felt the process would never end. As my attorney, Stuart reversed the tide and was able to control my ex-spouse’s and her attorneys’ unending litany of delays, demands, threats and accusations. When Stuart subsequently left the firm to establish his own practice, I followed and retained him to continue representing me. In the end, thanks to Stuart, I received an equitable settlement to which I owe the fine lifestyle and security I presently enjoy. I believe this would not have happened had I remained with the initial law firm. The reasons for Stuart’s effectiveness are many but include the following: • Stuart was always fully prepared. Although very knowledgeable, he did not hesitate to research issues or laws to verify his position, actions or strategies. • He is honest and forthright, sets realistic goals, and achieves them. • He understands and cares about your problem, and conveys an assurance he will do everything possible to help you succeed. I unequivocally recommend Stuart Meyer to anyone seeking sincere, user-friendly, competent and effective legal representation.

I was referred to Maria Tobia by a coworker after he received a favorable outcome in his case with her representation. Maria is a passionate attorney that truly cares about her clients. She differs from other attorneys in that she is willing to go the extra mile to assure the best possible outcome. My case took over a year to get resolved and Maria was there the entire time keeping me informed and pushing for a better judgement. She was not willing to accept the first plea deal we were offered as many other attorneys would do because she knew she could do better. Throughout the case, she was always willing to take my calls and texts and answer any questions I had. She is extremely knowledgeable on the law and her passion for her work is what sets her apart from the rest.

I retained Maria for a case i had back in 2011, and let me tell you... She's very precise when attacting fine line issues that can lesser or even get your case "thrown out". I was refferd to her by word of mouth- and the word do travel, because im from brooklyn and she works prodominantly in the bronx. Around that time, i was told that see just "beat" a serious case of one of my fiancee close friends husband. And since my case then was a bit serious, picking her for the task was a "no brainer". The engery was awesome when we first met. She was very compassionate and professional. The D.A. , was ready to go to trail, but I was able to fire the lawyer i had, due to ineffective counsel... and as soon as I had Ms. Tobia on board she was able to turn a situation that was heading for the worst- much better. Actually, to make a long story shorter, she "Beat" the case. The felony was dropped to a misdemeanor and without getting to tectnical, I was able to walk. In a nutshell, Ms. Tobia is very sharp and well rounded when it comes to maneuvering through out court proceedings, preparing and presenting infomation. YES, I recomend Ms. Tobia if your in a jam.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Nyack, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
