Some ginger guy agreed to be my lawyer but he kept insisting I take his 'vision'? He also said "Hey girlie hold still'" a lot. He was strange but 10/10 would recommend! I even got to fight a strange whale at the end of it all.

I asked this guy to be my lawyer for something regarding a vision and he said "Sure thing girlie, I'll take care of it." And he somehow got thrown into jail. Next thing I know, a big whale emerges through the floor. It was a very odd experience having him as my lawyer but he's chill enough.

4 months ago Mom was sent to a nursing home for rehab and then was transferred to long term care. We fought long and hard to get her out and bring her home. We were given excuse after excuse as to why she needed to stay there. Without Nicholas Khayumov and his team none of this would have been possible! Mom is now home where she belongs being cared for by her family. We are looking forward to many happy days ahead. We cannot thank you enough!

I cannot rave enough about working with Brian Miller and the team at Littman and Krooks. They honestly made me feel like family. The soft, non pushy approach and knowledge of their subject area is not only comforting, but reassuring. I even recommend them to my daughter-in-law and son! Now that’s confidence!

Steven is one of the few attorneys in the whole entire Universe that will give Pro Bono Legal Advice. My partner and I faced so many issues with the Land Lord Tenants through the years and Steve was the only attorney that heard us out and also told us how to proceed without asking for anything or hitting us with an invoice as we know that is what attorneys are known for. I am grateful to have met Steven and looking forward to working with him now and in the future.

Steven Weisblum is the most capable attorney that I have had the pleasure of dealing with in years. I had other attorney's tell me that my case could not be won and it was an uphill battle to say the least. Then, along came Weisblum, he is brilliant, charismatic and most knowledgeable about landlord tenant law. He outlined exactly what he planned to do to win my case and he followed through. To say I was very pleased to have him on my side is an understatement. Thank you Steve, a job very well done.

Amy helped me and my ex-wife divorce by mediating. After we failed at trying to divorce with lawyers in court, we took a pause. Court was ridden with conflict and tremendous fees so we went to her. She was able to help us understand the process and accomplish what we needed. If we had gone to her first, we would not have wasted almost $50,000 in fighting in court with lawyers that only wanted to cause more disputes. Thank you!

Mrs. Slotnick was referred to me by a friend whose divorce she mediated. She came highly recommended from someone that I consider to be very meticulous. She helped me with a small business issue. She was my second lawyer after firing the first one for not knowing the facts of my case. Needless to say that Amy was awesome, saved me a ton of money by avoiding a court battle and she out negotiated the pants off of the other lawyer. I cannot recommend her high enough. She just gets it.

This is the second time I’ve used Howard Bender’s legal services. Both times the result ended with a positive outcome. As before Howard’s performance was outstanding. From the first consultation I felt a sense of security knowing that, through Howard, a competent and logical legal approach was being applied to my situation. Further, he has great personal communication, I always felt in the know and at ease. I full-heartedly recommend his services.

We found Howard on the last day when we needed to file an answer and he did not have a problem with that even in such last minute. It turned out he found the party's lawsuit baseless and convinced them to dismiss without ever going to court. I wish more attorneys think like Howard as he is very good in details and understanding of Biz agreements. I will use him again if ever needs arise. I am very thank full we found him as he did the right approach to the case. Keep it up Thanks again.

I have retained Howard for many transactions including lease negotiations, sale of a business and customer bankruptcy advice. Every time I worked with him he was right on the money with his due diligence, sound go-forward advise, expert research and drafting skills. Each transaction has ended with the result I was seeking. I would highly endorse Howard for his calm and cool demeanor and shark mentality, always resulting in a positive end game

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rye Brook, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
