Brian butler did a great job at closing my deal even with a few bumps that got in the way. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to handle every situation the best way possible. He's the right man to have on your side for sure. Would definetly use him again and again and again. HE GETS THE JOB DONE and there is always someone in his office you can talk to if he is in a meeting and can't talk. I felt very secure with Brian working my file. Doesn't get any better than him!

We hired The Law Office of Brian P. Butler back in April of this year. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I have to say that the counsel assigned to our case worked diligently to ensure that we were approved for a home loan modification. When working with an attorney, one must realize that although we hire them to work on our behalf, we must do our part (provide paperwork, follow-up, etc.) to ensure that our ultimate goal is met. Whenever we followed up with them, they always had an update for us. We are thankful that our situation worked out for our good (Romans 8:28)

I actually live in arizona and was contacted by home retetion agency whom apparently works for The Law office of Brian P Butler and they offered to work with on a home loan modification. I was called out town on a very tragic family emergency and was unable to reach out to them to cancel services. Upon returning to AZ I discovered that they had made a $900.00 transaction to my checking account. When I contacted them they have refused to do any sort of refund. They have done no work for this money as I did not send any paper work ect. I stressed my situation and that I would not be staying in my home after all. They showed no compassion what so ever and said I should have contacted them. Unfortuantly I was planning funerals yes that is plural. They know that they are working with people already in hardship and they have no reguard to adding to it. I find them to be horrible and very uncaring. Even after I stressed i was moving they still kept persuing we can still help you save your home. As I repeatedly told them I would be leaving the state and so.

Will came highly recommended by an attorney friend of mine. I consulted with Will for a separation agreement. He was patient, empathic, and provided excellent advice without any pressure. It was obvious during our conversations that he loves his work and is truly interested in helping people. I am planning to hire Will to handle my case, he has extensive experience, he is tenacious when advocating for his clients, and understands the importance of building relationships. I know I will be in capable hands!

Will has been my saving grace. I went through numerous attorneys and have gotten nowhere settling with my ex in family court. Will is educated, fierce, honest, makes himself available for you, and really cares. He has become more than an attorney to me and I consider him a friend. He has always done what is in my child and my best interest. He really makes you feel good and that he totally has your back and is on your wide 1220 percent. He has a lot of connections in the court room and court system as well which is really helpful. It doesn’t matter if it’s a weekend or 1am if I have to contact with with an emergency he makes himself available for me and my child. I couldn’t ask for a better attorney and friend and I highly recommend him if you are in family court for any reason at all. We are preparing for trial and I know With Will in my corner I feel confident and prepared and ready to win.

Eric is an amazing and knowledgeable attorney. He understands zoning and land use law and helped me with a difficult closing. I recommended and he was used by my Mother in Law for her closing.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sayville, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
