This firm needs to get its act together. They do not know how to reciprocate telephone messages and emails. Multiple phone messages and emails have gone ignored. I do not appreciate this, and it is extremely unprofessional. I have now consulted with another firm, and they returned my telephone call within 24 hours. I will never use them again. Valerie Shivers helped me in the hardest moments of my life. She gave me hope again that there kind, empathetic people in this world. Valerie was not only able to give me her time and attention, but she was able to guide me when I didn't know where to turn. While I feared the loss of a parent, Valerie seamlessly directed me and took an giant weight off of my shoulders. The stress of planning is daunting, but Valerie was able to make it all easy and painless. I can't recommend Valerie Shivers enough. My father died in September of 2019. Hired them to help with Medicaid for nursing home,paid $10,000 retainer fee,that she later called a flat fee( no attorney does a flat fee for medicaid investigate yourself) I hired her in July 2021, my father died September 2021, without them ever filing the Medicaid paperwork as he died. Asked for part of retainer back, they would not reimburse a dime of my hard earned money and was now calling it a fee so they legally have no responsibility to account for your money spent. I have my check that she accepted clearly written with retainer on it. Yes they looked through some paperwork, but that was it for $10,000. Beware when dealing with them especially when my father had to many assets to even apply for Medicaid to pay nursing home ,and they never told me that.

Update (6/6): I received a call from Shivers apologizing for the incorrect information after they read my review here on Google. Once they did, they called the clerk who told them the same info I had received. Shivers then asked if (1) I could modify my review and (2) they could make up the fees I incurred from the FL lawyer. When I explained I already had a NY lawyer, they said they just felt bad and the reimbursement had nothing to do with changing my review. That being said, they made a huge deal about how my review was a big deal as they are a small firm and it could hurt them. I do appreciate them apologizing. A friend recommended them to me (she had used them for estate planning) so I hit them up for a free consultation on a probate issue. Turns out that the advice they gave me was wrong. I had spoken with 2 other lawyers (in FL) who had said the opposite and they were correct. I went back to the FL lawyer, started working with her and she said "this still doesn't feel right, let's go to the court." Well, the NY county clerk said "no, you can do it this way" (aka the way the FL lawyers told me). So now I've spent money on a FL lawyer I don't need (though luckily she's refunding me as much as she can) and I'm going to find another probate lawyer in NY to handle my case. They honestly might be great overall... just letting you know how my one experience was!
