Shannon Malone is bar none the best criminal defense attorney you could ever ask for. If you need someone who is compassionate, professional, knowledgeable, and has an excellent rapport with judges, Shannon Malone is who you need. She helped me with a dwi case and was able to make it where i can still drive to work and therapy, and got the charge reduced. I don't know where I would be without her.

Esq Shannon Malone is the most professional criminal defense attorney i have had the pleasure to hire. She got my DWI charge(a serious defense) down to where i should be able to obtain my license in just a couple of weeks and a small price to pay for my fine. She is amazing. I know i made a huge mistake, she was so compassionate and just so human. I went from a mess to completely comfortable, head clear in the game, and i now attend AA. Thank you, shannon malone. Not only what you have done for me law wise, but for now making me change my life style for the better!!

Review submitted by request of Ed Haas: I received a citation after exceeding the speed limit for a short distance to avoid a large truck at the top of a steep hill. I normally travel in the opposite direction where the posted speed limit is 10 mph higher for this same section of road. To add confusion, the lower speed limit sign in my direction was obscured by tree branches and the GPS speed limit postings on my dashboard did not change to the lower speed limit until the bottom of the steep hill. This was then too late to slow down enough to avoid radar. This was the ideal location for a 'speed trap' and I was the victim. As a driver who is proud of my otherwise good driving record, I wanted to fight back. I did not want my insurance company penalizing me for an isolated incident that happened to avoid a large truck that approached quickly from behind. Unfortunately, I lack experience in such matters. Although I was already scheduled for a pre-trial conference, I was concerned that providing the above information to a prosecutor could only give him/her the opportunity to prepare a better defense in court. I needed someone with more experience in such matters. I therefore contacted Shannon Malone after receiving a recommendation from the Suffolk County Bar Association. I was seeking an attorney experienced in such matters. I was impressed with Shannon's resume and experience, and after meeting her, I was impressed with her honesty and professionalism. I freely admitted that I exceeded the speed limit, but the mitigating circumstances were important. A plea of "guilty" or "not guilty" did not tell the whole story. After the initial consultation with Shannon, it was easy to put my trust in her. My problems then became hers, and the anger and stress I was feeling then melted away. The thought of increased insurance payments for the next three years was stressful; my last car insurance bill increased by 25% even though I take Defensive Driving every three years, am a senior citizen, and have an otherwise clean driving record. Shannon however knew just what to do. I did not have to take time off from work to face a prosecutor and/or judge alone. Shannon quickly and favorably resolved this case. She was able to get the citation reduced to a parking ticket with no points on my license. I consider the money I spent on her fee well worth it, and highly recommend contacting Shannon for any issues within her larger field of expertise. Sincerely, Ed Haas

The plaintiff hired an attorney to try to get $1 million from my father. After a thorough review of my dad‘s finances, and analyzing the situation, our attorney Craig Purcell told the apposing counselor that he would be wasting his time and efforts. The plaintiff’s attorney backed off. Craig was kind, astute, extremely patient with my elderly father who was distraught and very confused over the situation. Mr. Purcell has proven to us that he is an smart, trustworthy attorney who will always do the right thing. We are eternally grateful and have become loyal clients.

Catherine was phenomenal. I came to her feeling completely defeated and hopeless. My former attorney was a nightmare. Unprepared, unwilling to listen, and completely took advantage of me are only a few of the adjectives I could use to describe him. Catherine immediately heard my case and was confident. She listened and acknowledged my concerns. She even asked for my feedback with things. She took what was one of the worst times in my life and completely guided me through it. She promised me she would get this resolved and in my favor quickly. Needless to say, she came totally prepared for meditation and defended me against my ex husband and his counsel. She would not budge on our demands. She had proof to validate all our points. If you are looking for a divorce attorney who is also knowledgeable in real estate law, do not hesitate to contact her. Thank you for helping me move on with my life

Catherine was referred to me by a friend and even though she was 45 min from me, I was so glad to have her and worth every minute and penny. (Which was beyond reasonable too.) I just bought my 1st house and needed a real estate attorney. I knew next to nothing about the process of what it takes to actually close on a house, but Catherine answered all of my 100 questions I had and was good at explaining it. She is beyond professional and knowledgeable, very sweet, but also doesn’t mess around and fights hard, which you don’t usually find all 4 of these qualities together. Never once did I ever even have a problem reaching her, (try that with another attorney!), and her paralegal, Sharon, is awesome as well! She also knew most of the answers to my questions and kept me in the loop every single step of the way. Catherine totally had my back when it came to the contract, putting in what was needed to benefit me and also explaining it [again] each step of the way. Honestly, I can’t thank her enough, but would refer her to anybody needing an attorney for real estate, family law or matrimonial. I will 100% use her again!!

Catherine Dominici is a shark. She goes over and beyond for her clients. When there is a problem, she does not back down or waiver. It does not matter how long she has to battle; she gets it done. Catherine was my attorney in a child custody battle. Sadly, my ex was in no position to be a parent to my 3 children. It was a very unsafe and unhealthy environment for them. Long story short, Catherine got the job done. I have sole custody of my children without visitation.(which sounds terrible but in this situation anything else would of been unacceptable). She was on my side, well my childrens side 100%. She truly cared for the well being of my children. I have never met an attorney with so much dedication and compassion such as hers. She was always there for us. She was very reasonable with her costs and her office staff was just as amazing as she was. Whenever anyone asks me if I know a lawyer that I can recommend, there is only one and that is Catherine. She is truly one in a million.

My wife and me were first-time home buyers looking for a real estate lawyer. We reached out to several lawyers in the Stony Brook area. Daniel was by far the most engaged, responsive, and personable, so we decided to hire him. He really helped us along the process and was always available by phone. The closing was a fast and painless affair. In addition, Daniel is an in-network provider for the MetLaw/Hyatt Legal plan. I had heard horror stories that lawyers use those plans to rope you in and then get you to pay for all kinds of additional services that your plan doesn't cover, but that wasn't an issue at all with Daniel.

Found Mr. Cronin to be all that I was looking for in an Attorney! My ratings indicate my how my issues were addressed, processed and concluded, in a most efficient manner. I was impressed with his willingness to satisfy a client! This is not the general attitude I have found dealing with other Attorneys.

Maria is extremely helpful, kind, smart and truly looks out for the best interest of her client. What sets her apart is that she will tell you if you're expecting too much from her or the court system. It's a difficult thing to find a lawyer who is honest but Maria definitely is and that's one of the greatest things about her. My husband and I have recommended Maria to multiple people who have always come back thanking us for such a great recommendation. She makes herself available at anytime to discuss your case and remembers even minor details. She also will explain anything you ask, even if it's the hundredth times she's explained it. Anyone who hires Maria is in good hands.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Stony Brook, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
