Five stars without question. I could not recommend a legal team (of wonderful humans) more. It would be tough to fully express the extent of my gratitude, but I will try. To set the stage, a close family member was arrested, and it was a shock to our entire family and obviously the accused. It happened on a Friday, and her current representation had not even responded to her calls or emails by Sunday. I did some research online and came across this firm. I could not be more relieved, in retrospect, that the original lawyer never responded. Working with Julie and the team here was the best decision we could have made, and probably changed the course of our lives. My first interaction with Julie was on a Sunday, and she returned my call within an hour and spent the next hour on the phone with me. On a Sunday. They very quickly found a time to meet with us the following week, and I was able to fly back to NY to be there. A partner (James) and Julie both spent a half day with us, before even talking about retaining them, which I did on the spot. From there, Julie was available and coached us through the entire process. She was incredibly thoughtful, and knowledgeable and very grounding in how we should set our expectations. She was able to balance a very elegant line of being fiery on our behalf, but never setting and false expectations about outcomes. The grace was incredible. Above** expectations is what they delivered in the end. The reality of the criminal justice system was scary, and the charges that were led with hard to see to the other side of. However, in the end, through incredible legal work, thoughtful negotiation and the highest EQ on how to work with prosecution, we were able to get to an agreement that felt like a no-brainer to accept rather than looking down the scope of what could have happened at a trial. I think the honesty and clarity on risk helped us to see what the best path was. Just to speak in numbers, the original charges were upwards of 40 years (for a non-violent crime). Where we landed was in a sentence in local jail, near the family, and for under a year of time. The agreement was reached amicably with the prosecution, and the process was as painless as you can expect, of a terribly painful process. To anyone considering a legal team, realize that the trauma the process has on you and your family is real. Lawyers are often only judged by the outcomes that they bring, which of course is priority one, and Julie and team deliver that. However, consider how important it is to have a compassionate, intelligent and highly communicative group of humans supporting through this process. What I learned was that you can expect more from a legal team, and you will find that here. I could not give a higher review and regard to Julie and the team at E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy. I will always be in gratitude, and hope that they find nothing but growing success.
