Dear Georgia, Thank you for everything! It took me several hours last night to get over the unexpected strong emotions I was feeling from the events of the trial today. You and your staff have spent hours, days and weeks doing the most thorough job in preparation for my trial, including all those heavy file boxes you methodically carried back and forth to court. You were superb! You walked into a situation where several meetings with the judge, my ex-husband's attorney and my prior attorney had already taken place. You fought full-force against a judge who believed my ex-husband was ill, penniless and not capable of earning money. When you examined my former husband on the stand, much to my ex-husband’s dismay, you were able to prove, based on a report from his doctor, that he was no longer ill nor incapacitated as a result of his illness. You were also able to prove he was far from penniless, and had, in fact, spent lavishly on apartment renovations, his dogs, restaurants, travel and other luxuries. You were able to prove he had just received a substantial payment from one of the companies with which he is actively involved. You thus proved he had the means to pay me the court-ordered alimony on which he had been in default of for over two and a half years. Georgia, you turned a judge slanted to the other side into seeing the true situation. As you know, I have had other attorneys in my lifetime, but never have I had one who did the magnificent job you have done and never have I had an attorney or known a person who is as compassionate and as fine a human being as you. I feel so lucky you came into my life and I honestly cannot imagine what would have happened to me without you. With much gratitude and, yes, love, Marjorie

After my husband and I went to a mediator for a separation agreement, a lawyer friend insisted that I go to Georgia Kramer, and ONLY Georgia Kramer, before I signed it. Am I glad I did! I cannot imagine what my post-marriage life would be like had I not had Georgia as my advocate and divorce attorney. At Georgia's suggestion, I faxed the agreement to her, and when I arrived for our first meeting she was fully prepared to help. Her calm and personable manner alleviated much of my anxiety, and her suggestions and advice inspired great confidence in her ability to manage my case. She wasted no time . After asking specifically about my needs and concerns for my future, she took out her notes on the already studied document, and began editing it to eliminate vague and ambiguous language that could present problems for me in the future, while clearly explaining the ramifications of these changes. Her amazing patience and her ability to help me understand the implications of what was done illustrated to me how knowledgeable, how experienced and how committed she is to her clients. She clearly understands the difficult situation that divorce presents, and she went out of her way both personally and professionally to represent my interests. I also noticed her professionalism during meetings with my soon to be ex and his lawyer. While she acted respectfully toward my husband and his attorney, she was also quite assertive, and exhibited a strong, no-nonsense approach while arguing for the best outcome for me, her client. It was clear to me that my husband's lawyer knew of and had great respect for Georgia. Because of all this, my settlement was more than I ever could have hoped for. It meets far more than my needs and concerns. Despite Georgia's extensive experience, her deep knowledge of divorce law and her obvious expertise in tax law, she constantly explained to me clearly what she was doing on my behalf, and how it would affect me. Georgia never talked down to me. She always included me in the process. And still, there was always time for a smile and a pat on the back from her. I am so grateful to her .

Highly recommended by a client of mine. Met a year prior to the commencement. Unfortunate circumstances led to another attorney in the firm a year later. Rejoined my case late in the proceeding's. She was instrumental in helping close & move towards settlement. Unfortunate circumstances beyond our control made this case a very costly one. In the end I was grateful to her years of experience & decision making. Highly recommend her wisdom from start to finish!

Georgia Kramer was supposed to protect the interests of me and my three minor children in my divorce case. What it seemed that she did do is side with my ex husbands attorneys and I was forced into a settlement agreement that left us with only the apartment in lieu of not only child support but all non reimbursed medical and all add ons. We received absolutely no money from my wealthy ex husband. I was married for 20 years and my salary was negligible compared to my husbands. There was no discovery done on my husband and he walked away literally scott free. After all of the promises that she made to me to help my children receive everything that they would be entitled to, in the end she told the judge that we would just take the apartment for his half of child support. I never agreed to anything like that and was forced into signing the agreement. She said it would be the best deal for me under the circumstances. If you want everything taken from you and your children and pay a fortune to this lawyer hire Georgia Kramer.

I was the plaintiff in a divorce action. Unfortunately, it took a very long time to resolve my case as it was a complicated case. It involved minor children, numerous real estate properties and over a dozen businesses. The court system is not a stream lined process. For those of us not in the legal profession, it can be a complicated and often difficult system to navigate. Georgia was strong, confident, patient when answering my questions and above all....a voice of reason. Georgia was the calm in my storm. I highly recommended Georgia Kramer and her firm. Everyone I spoke with at Kramer Kozek was professional, articulate and efficient. Divorces are generally not pleasant, mine was not.....at least my council/representation was.

I had the good fortune of retaining Lydia Milone for my divorce proceedings in 2019, and I say this with the utmost respect and gratitude- Lydia is a lioness; ferocious in her client’s defense and protective of their needs and emotions in what are for them, very turbulent times. Lydia shepherded me through one of the most difficult experiences of my life- listening to my concerns, protecting my interests and offering sage advice through the entire process. I’m eternally grateful that it was she by my side through such conflict, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone in need of assistance traversing the legal system in matters of divorce and family law.

Russell Fayer is a wise and patient attorney. He knows how to get successfully to the end of a transaction but never loses sight of what is right. I have enjoyed many real estates deals with him and he is a constant source of prudent advise. Highly recommended!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of White Plains, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
