I was one year into my divorce case, my Ex wife had all sorts of false order of protection against me crippling my ability to even see my kids, I hadn’t seen my first son for 6 months and never met my new born until he was 3 months old. My old attorney did nothing, they were money down the drain until Adam came along, in ONLY 2 WEEKS, ADAM knew my case like the back of his hand and ready for trial where he dismantled the opposition and laid all their claims to ABSOLUTE WASTE. Adam got rid of all my Ex wife’s Phony Order of protection by proving to the judge beyond a reasonable doubt that all her claims were false. In another few months ADAM got the judge to give me interim Custody of my kids while OUR DIVORCE WENT ON for another year instead of my ex wife. This man was phenomenal, he brought my case from the grave yard literally to LIFE. IF YOU HAVE A MATRIMONIAL CASE AND SEEK THE BEST ATTORNEY NEW YORK HAS TO OFFER, look no further and congratulations because you just found him.

I hired Adam for my divorce three years ago. He gave me excellent advice and was a true confidant during that time. Fast forward three years later and he has not left my side. Continues to advice, council and guide during the most stressful time of one's life. He has worked towards my future and made sure that myself and my children's needs were met with class, grace and elegance. I can not recommend him more highly. He will fight for you, and let you know when to back down. He has taken my calls on weekends, evenings and early mornings. He is dedicated to his clients and you can rest assured Adam will do anything he can for his clients. On top of it all he happens to be a great guy, wonderful family man and a nice person. You will make the right choice should you need to higher a lawyer by hiring Adam.

I don't often write reviews but my experience with Adam through a highly contested, emotional rollercoaster of a divorce proceeding compelled me to do so. Adam's calm demeanor, steady approach to litigation and solid advice throughout the proceedings allowed me to navigate the mine field of my divorce with confidence. His pragmatic approach was much appreciated as he always communicated potential outcomes which we discussed to decide the best way forward. He didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear, he told me what I NEEDED to hear. Adam excels in his deep knowledge of matrimonial proceedings, custody issues and is especially adept at finances. I highly recommend securing Adam's services so that you can have the piece of mind of having a true professional on your side through one of the most stressful situations in life. I wouldn't have successfully made it through my situation without his help and advice.

An attorney friend highly recommended Adam for an urgent family custody issue. Upon my first consultation, I walked away, feeling informed of my rights and confident in Adam's ability to understand my situation, weed through my emotional distress, and provide a clear plan on how to move forward. He was practical and compassionate. He is quick to respond, which is crucial when faced with a contentious opposing party. He successfully navigated through a very stressful situation. Even during the pandemic, he kept the case moving forward.

I had the good fortune of retaining Lydia Milone for my divorce proceedings in 2019, and I say this with the utmost respect and gratitude- Lydia is a lioness; ferocious in her client’s defense and protective of their needs and emotions in what are for them, very turbulent times. Lydia shepherded me through one of the most difficult experiences of my life- listening to my concerns, protecting my interests and offering sage advice through the entire process. I’m eternally grateful that it was she by my side through such conflict, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone in need of assistance traversing the legal system in matters of divorce and family law.

Russell Fayer is a wise and patient attorney. He knows how to get successfully to the end of a transaction but never loses sight of what is right. I have enjoyed many real estates deals with him and he is a constant source of prudent advise. Highly recommended!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of White Plains, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
