I cannot say enough good things about Bill Powers. I know him as a friend, a neighbor and a lawyer. We first used Bill’s legal services when our daughter as a new driver had several “moments of misunderstanding of the law” which resulted in speeding tickets. (For example, it’s OK to speed if you need to pass a big truck or if your team has just won its first conference championship and you are headed to celebrate with teammates etc.) Bill was wonderful! He did not so much as help her get out of the tickets, but more provided a chance for her to understand the laws and to learn from her mistakes without affecting our (her parents) good standing or pocketbook. The consequences proved very effective. It took a lot of lifeguarding hours (this provided some time to contemplate on what she might have done differently) to pay the fines but the fines were for violations that would not doom her driving record. We thought that her experiences had perhaps helped our son, who now at 18 still had a squeaky clean record. Though it probably helped out some, we realized that he was not without error when we received a very surprising notice recently in the mail that “his court date had been set”. After speaking with him, he informed us that as an 18 year old legal adult he had obtained his own lawyer (several months before this) and they had worked everything out and he was to be taking his classes that weekend to help erase the incident from his record. I will have to admit that I was very impressed, enough so that I didn’t even question his not telling us. Of course, he had called our friend Bill Powers who had been an amazing mentor to him during this time. We are extremely grateful to Bill for providing this confidential outlet for our son to obtain ethical and responsible legal advice. There are lawyers that will help you avoid obeying the law or will even help you benefit from an unfortunate situation. I can say that Bill Powers is NOT one of these guys. He is a man full of integrity and compassion and a thorough understanding of and respect for the law. He has helped our young adults understand the law and its implications and has provided honest and straight forward answers and helped to turn the mistakes that they have made into learning experiences with consequences that will not hinder their chances for success in the future. Let’s face it, the laws today are very strict and the consequences of breaking them can be overwhelming. And sometimes, our many (many!) words of warning as parents just fall on deaf ears. If you have a son or daughter who has recently turned 18 and/or is headed off to college WRITE THIS MAN’S NAME AND PHONE NUMBER DOWN AND GIVE IT TO THEM! Better yet, call Bill yourself and schedule an appointment for your new drivers and new adults to sit down with him and have a nice chat about the law, their new responsibilities and the impact that bad decisions could possibly have on their future and yours.

I've met with Bill and John they are both very professional and knew everything about my case. If your looking for the best representaion they are the firm to hire. Ive met with several lawyers and they made me feel the most comfortable. I have reccommended many to them and will continue to do so!

They handled my case with ease

These guys are the Rolls Royce of DWI defense in the Charlotte area. Emily Bretz got me off for my DMV hearing (for refusal to take a breathalyzer)...which allowed me to keep my full license during this whole process. Then John Landreth got me a Not Guilty verdict at my criminal trial. Yes, they are priced higher than many others but it was worth every penny for me. John Landreth in particular is not only competent, but he looked like he enjoyed every second of skewering the cop and the prosecutor at my criminal trial. This is a brand name law firm as far I'm concerned, and it was certainly possible to get the same result for less--but with these guys you have an established history of success. Its really hard to predict how your lawyer will perform, but with these guys that extra couple of dollars up front buys you some peace of mind. When your back is against the wall these guys will be there for you and they fight tooth and nail in the courtroom. You can really tell that there is a culture in this law firm that holds the rights of everyday citizens as something sacred. In today's world the odds are stacked in favor of the cop and prosecutor and their word is almost taken as scientific fact--but this law firm knows the law, period. They deliver even when they are the underdog, because they are passionate about helping you...and honestly, these guys seemed just as pissed as I was about my arrest! They may not guarantee a Not Guilty verdict, but they can guarantee that they'll give em hell in that courtroom. PS One last thing...I would probably pay a significant amount of money to see that cop's face again, as he walked out of that courtroom feeling completely defeated. The not guilty verdict may cost you money, but the look on the cop's face when your lawyer completely owns him...PRICELESS.

The entire staff is consistently professional, knowledgeable and responsive. In addition, Attorney William T. Cathcart is very methodical and strategic in his approach. Admittedly, I was leery at first but quickly realized that Mr. Cathcart had a solid vision and game plan and it worked. I highly recommend Powers McCartan.

The week of May 4, 2015, Bill Powers and Will Cathcart handled a misdemeanor criminal matter for me in Charlotte. The case was on for the first time in misdemeanor trial court. Bill argued for the case's dismissal and the Court dismissed it. Bill's representation was, to say the least, outstanding. I practiced as a criminal defense lawyer for almost 30 years in our NC and Federal Courts and don't believe I was ever able to achieve this kind of result. I would strongly recommend the use of Bill's services in any type of case his firm handles!

If a skeptical person such as myself is posting this...you should really take heed. Powers McCartan & Associates are truly a great staff. Will Cathcart represented me in my case and was able to place me at ease the entire time. The certainty provided throughout the life-cylce of the case was amazing and sure enough, their strategy came to fruition. Powers McCartan should be your first choice when it comes to legal representation. I had the opportunity to have Will Cathcart represent me as I was facing a DUI (.08), Reckless Driving, and a Speeding charge. Will left no stone unturned in arguing my DUI case and he had it dismissed. His knowledge of the law and the circumstance won the case...Matlock style! Will also worked with the DA to have the Reckless Driving dismissed and I only had to plea to the speed. Needless to say, the most embarrassing and fearful moment in my life turned into what will be a few points on my license and an increased insurance premium for a few years. I can live with that. Lesson learned. Will and the Powers McCartan Staff kept me well informed and they were very honest throughout the entire process. This firm was worth every penny and then some. Going with this firm was life altering. I would recommend Powers McCartan to anyone facing legal trouble.

Bill and his staff are flat out great. I (unfortunately) was a repeat customer after a string of tickets. These guys not only took care of the initial ticket for me, but went the extra mile and reduced my problems from 3 to just 1 (very minor one) on the same day I called back! I would recommend them to anyone.

Without a doubt the best group of professionals in the industry. Before seeking out the services of Bill and his staff, I was not very hopeful about the outcome of my DUI. The staff at Powers McCartan are knowledgeable and confident in their skills (and have every right to be). Bill is a fantastic lawyer and is dedicated to each of his cases.
