Jennifer has never given the impression of a stone cold Attorney. While she means business in the courtroom and works diligently behind the scenes, she brings her heart into her work. She Responds within a timely manner and makes herself available to address questions & concerns. She has fought long & hard for my family & there's no one else I would have. She has proven herself over and over. It is not often you might consider an attorney to be a trustworthy person (no jab intended), but I have felt my family was in the best of hands & I do trust her to have our best interest at heart. I feel confident with her at my side and know that you will too. If you're looking for someone to understand your case, to care about justice, & to get the job done, she is for you! You won't be disappointed.

Worse attorney in concord! I had consulted three other attorneys in the area who had known about Ms.Robertsons work ethics and had even said that she was friends with opposing counsels attorney! Which now explains the mess that has to be cleaned up by my current attorney who has recommended I file a complaint to state bar. She had failed multiple times to respond and or clearly explain what the status of my case was. She kept saying my case was moving at an appropriate rate. Well I had a child support hearing which Ms.Robertson had mentioned I did not have to be present for because of my work schedule. Well the day of the hearing she had taken it upon herself to not update me as to what the outcome was. No phone call, no email, no letter, NOTHING! Two weeks later Ms.Robertson had finally decided to respond to my emails and said what my child support payment was plus $1,100 of backed child support that she had failed to mention when I (the plaintiff) had filed the lawsuit initially which was a year ago. She was extremely unprofessional in her emails and few times I would attempt to discuss the matter with her over the phone. Eventually I had to fire her and hire a new attorney because opposing counsel had informed me multiple times that Ms.Robertson and opposing counsels attorney would discuss issues that were only meant for Ms.Robertson and myself. If you are a dad please look else where for an attorney. This attorney talks a good game but is a poor representive for single fathers who want to protect their children.

I hired Mrs. Jennifer Robertson for Child Custody & Support. Mrs. Roberston is very Professional, Personable, Straight Forward, and Gets Results. I had the notion that the Father always gets the Blunt End of the Deal. Mrs. Robertson proved that theory wrong with my case. I will Recommend Mrs. Jennifer Rutherford Roberston to all my friends and family, as well as obtain her for any future issues that arise in her Field of Services.

We chose Mr. Sorrell to assist my mother in law with her will. He was very thorough, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. He made the experience for her very comfortable. He answered her questions and our questions with patience and her best interest was at the fore front. Reasonably priced. Very pleased with our experience with Mr. Sorrell.

My husband and I wanted a nontraditional home ownership and looked for an attorney to help us. While the first attorney we talked to seemed to think this was complicated and hard to accomplish, Mr. Sorrell gave us several options and helped us sort through them to arrive at a good solution for our problem. In addition, he evaluated our out of state documents and helped us feel confident that we were compliant with North Carolina laws. We finished the estate planning feeling comfortable with the process and results. We highly recommend him!

Mr. Sorrell was so great to work with. My husband and I are planning for our future and were deciding between a will and a trust. He explained both to us and helped us make our decision. We never felt pressured into choosing anything we didn't want. He explained everything clearly and answered all of the questions we had. He is also an excellent resource to guide you along the way if for any questions after you have set up your will/trust. He was very professional and we will definitely use him for any future needs. I fully recommend to anyone!

Mr. Wiseman did a wonderful job for me. Even when the DA tried to read off my crimes of 2014 such as eluding police and they took my car away a 2012 Camaro; I was able to get it back. He also just recently kempt me from losing my driver's license after getting caught while driving while license suspended. I am truly grateful for how he handled my case. They DA tried to bring up my 2014 charges but was quickly shot down by the Judge.

I hired Rose to help with my divorce because I didn't know anything about the process outside of the basic state requirements. She made the entire process as painless as possible and kept in communication with me every step of the way. She even made sure to ask about how my pregnancy and baby preparations were going. I strongly recommend her to anyone who is looking for legal help, not just for her amazing professional demeanor but also for her interpersonal skills.

I used Rose Staples Deese to draft my will. She was thorough, and took the time to explain the process to me so that I could decide what language best fit my needs. She made the process easier than I ever thought it could be to have a will created. I'd recommend her to anyone needing an attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Concord, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
