Brittany Hall handled my child support hearing. I am leaving 2 stars because the ultimate agreement was fair and was settled ahead of seeing a judge; however the initial agreement sent to me was full of basic calculation errors that you wouldn't expect from a professional. I ultimately pointed out the mistakes, and once the correct numbers were used in the calculator, she sent me an accurate proposal. I could have accomplished that myself. After the agreement was reached, I received a letter from the other party's state child support office indicating that they were not going to respect the agreement we had reached. Brittany refused to take my call. The outcome was satisfactory. However, I believe given the entire experience, there are better options for the money.

Brittany Hall represented me in my child custody case and she was AMAZING! She answered all of my questions in a timely manner, was thoughtful in her responses, was extremely well prepared when we had to go to court, and was a force to be reckoned with in the court room. I would absolutely recommend Brittany to anyone looking for a trustworthy and tough attorney!

2
Attorneys with a high level of expertise and experience, particularly in family law matters
“Linda Sayed is the best of the best. I trusted her with a very difficult custody case and she delivered. I am forever grateful.”
3
Attorneys who aggressively advocate for their clients and achieve favorable outcomes
“My ex husband said she is a ruthless bulldog. In my personal experience, she listens and is extremely detailed.”
4
Attorneys who provide personalized attention and go above and beyond to support their clients
“Brittany Hall and her paralegal Pam are the DREAM TEAM of divorce settlement. I never had any legal issues in my past so I was really nervous about hiring a lawyer. Not only did Brittany come highly recommended by someone I trust and respect, but she was an angel to work with and never once did I feel like she wasn't 100% fighting for me.”
Cons
1
Front desk staff with poor customer service and unprofessional attitudes
“Front desk reception should be replaced immediately. Called to potentially use their services and stated if they could give me a call back later per work, immediately got an attitude and told me to call them back, which is fine. But the attitude and way she represented the company turned me off from ever using them”
2
Attorneys who may abandon clients or provide poor communication
“Mr Behm Is not to be trusted nor their paralegal Jennifer. Run far away… Linda and Nate are good but I was totally scammed. Huge wreck of a construction law suit and he abandoned my family. Had to be pro se for over a year. Billed me and no communication.”

I was dealing with a horrible situation. The rest of my life on the line. The biggest thing I learned is to listen when he says hes got it...he has it. Not guilty all counts. Simply, absolutely, positively "THE BEST!!!!" I owe him more than I can ever repay.

Initially I didn't think I really needed a lawyer but called them about some questions. A few days later I realized I needed an attorney and called Ashley back. Knowing my situation, he offered to come to see me although I was able to make it to his office. Ashley didn't always tell me what I wanted to hear but he always told me the truth. He is very knowledgeable and professional. For two years he always returned my calls promptly and got my problems resolved, ( he even sent a representative to the hospital) to make sure I was getting what I needed. I would highly recommend Ashley if you feel the need to hire an attorney. He is honest and truly cares about his clients.

To say that I was panicked and hit below bottom before I called Chris would be an understatement. When I finally got the courage to call I was treated with the utmost respect and care. From the moment Susan answered the phone, I knew I was in good hands. I entered Chris’s office feeling the utmost shame and embarrassment to be in this plight. All those feelings quickly dispersed as I was carefully, and gently taken through the process… And given my choices. Everything was explained so carefully, that all the confusion and fear quickly dissipated. I hired him quickly, and he guided me through each step of the process. I feel whole again, and on my path to financial repair and security once again. Thank you all at Vonderau Law Office

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
