I called HT regarding my tax issue that I had been trying to handle with the IRS on my own, but wasn't getting anywhere. He was very compassionate and very kind in listening to my problem. He answered my questions and went through some options with me. I really appreciate his knowledge and expertise! He made me feel at ease knowing that there is someone out there that understood my situation.

HT was referred to me by my corporate attorney when I had to dig out from under an IRS mess created by my naiveté and a sloppy bookkeeper. He got results that my new accountant and I could not get. He is a true professional. He has a combination of skills and characteristics that you might not expect to find in an attorney. He advised me, worked with my accountant, and dealt with the IRS on my behalf. He dealt with the paper work and agents, but understood that I had a budget. He helped me set a budget and prioritize what he needed to do and what I could do. He has a sharp legal mind, was aware of CA and Federal issues, and was up to date on the ever changing tax laws and codes. With the IRS agents, he knew when to be aggressive and when to pull back. The IRS agents took his calls, responded to his letters (they NEVER took mine) and in turn, gave him valuable information that helped my case. When it came to working with me, he was firm, incredibly responsive, candid, honest, patient, and he was compassionate. Truly compassionate. He made a stressful, frightening situation manageable by explaining the facts and options in as much detail as I requested (and I requested A LOT o detail) without candy coating. I went from being managed by the situation to managing the situation. I give HT the highest recommendation, without reservation. My various jobs have put he in contact with hundreds of lawyers over the years. HT is easily among the top 2% of lawyers have worked with in my 20+ career.

When we received an audit notice we had spoken to a tax attorney about our particular issue and received no helpful advice, no explanation and what amounted to a very rude send-off. I called Mr. Astrov because our tax software warned that our audit risk is high since I own a small business that is less than 3 years old with losses significantly greater than profits while my partner earns a significantly higher income. So, Mr. Astrov confirmed that our tax software's audit defense won't provide much material assistance in the event of an IRS audit beyond some basic preliminaries, which was what I suspected. Mr. Astrov gave me helpful advice particular to my tax situation to protect myself via a paper trail to document my small business activities and I will extend my documentation activities based on his advice now. Mr. Astrov was clear about his rates and that fees are based on the complexity of the particular case since on average audits that encompass several tax years require more work than audits that only encompass a single tax year's return. My fingers are crossed that I will not be audited but in the event that I am, I feel more prepared and I'll call Mr. Astrov to retain his services as he has not only extensive tax experience but experience having worked for the IRS and he's very professional and polite.
