As a real estate investor, I've had to deal with several lawsuits, foreclosures, etc. over the years. I feel most confident with Brad in my corner. He's knowledgeable, thorough and definitely doesn't make "seat of the pants" decisions.

Brad Copeland came very highly recommended by everyone I asked. He represented my company who was a creditor in a bankruptcy proceeding where we felt the result was going to be a coin toss. Mr. Copeland however had different ideas and when you have a hearing or trial its always nice to have your attorney be the smartest one in the room. He's very competitive and takes the idea of losing very personally. He wiped the floor with the debtors attorney and because he knows the law is the guy to get you the good result you are wanting. He's a smart guy and handles complex bankruptcies but only works on the side of the creditors. If you hire an attorney because you want to win then look no further.

Being counseled by John was an amazing legal experience. He showed his proficiency in my case like a true professional . Very smart individual. He’s excellent at letting you know exactly what’s on the table. I was not very knowledgeable about court lingos/etiquettes. John made sure to make everything clear. I was comfortable right from the beginning to the end of my case. Thanks John and Gina. You guys are awesome.

Many thanks to John Kolego for his expertise and care in a case involving my nephew. He did exactly what he told us he would do, and was able to get the outcome he had projected. His years of experience and thorough understanding of the law guided my family through a very difficult situation. What I found most helpful was the time he gave us to answer all of our questions. He was with us every step of the way. Thank you John.

My son found himself in a terrible situation that neither he nor I ever imagined he would be in. It was devastating, and we didn’t know the best way to proceed. A friend highly recommended John, and hiring him was the absolute right thing to do. He advised, counselled and supported us through the entire court process. What I, as a mother, really appreciated was that if I called John with a question or concern he always took my call. He was quite clear about his boundaries and client confidentiality, while being supportive. John kept my son out of prison, which of course is the ultimate goal, but even if the verdict had been different I know John worked diligently for my son. I am now the friend who will highly recommend John in the future. Thank you John.

When our grandson was badly injured in an ATV accident, sustaining life-long injuries, we went in search of a skilled and ethical attorney to help achieve reasonable financial aid for our grandson’s future, which had been greatly altered. We were referred to Corson & Johnson Law Firm. We first met Don Corson when he came to our home to meet with us and to discover more about our situation. He immediately made us comfortable with his friendly but professional demeanor. And I couldn’t have been more impressed with his depth of legal knowledge. But more than that, it was clear he cared about our grandson’s well-being. In the many months that followed it became obvious to us that we had the best attorney in the state of Oregon working alongside us. Don was always a professional, but he was more than just an attorney to us. He became a friend. As it turned out, Don Corson did a fabulous job and our grandson will be well taken care of throughout his life. Along with a sense of assurance about our grandson’s future well-being, we also have a life-long friend. There are no sufficient words to thank Don Corson and his staff for all they did for us and our grandson. We have no hesitation in recommending his services to others. You won’t be sorry.

The journey to obtaining my green card was a life-changing endeavor, and the person who made it all possible was Angela Andersen. Her exceptional expertise, unwavering dedication, and genuine care transformed what could have been a daunting process into a personal and meaningful experience. Angela Andersen deserves the highest accolades for her services. From our very first meeting, Angela's professionalism and approachability were striking. She didn't treat me as just another client; instead, she took a keen interest in understanding my background, family situation, and personal aspirations. Her ability to forge a personal connection set the tone for our partnership, and I knew I was in capable hands. Without her help am not sure i would have been approved so we will always be grateful to her. We cannot recommend her any higher if you are looking for someone to help you get your green card you will be in good hands with Angela.

Angela helped my wife and me transition from Colombia to Oregon. After COVID, the visa process was bottlenecked, and we weren't sure what to expect or how long it would take to complete. Throughout the process, Angela was knowledgeable and attentive. Angela responded quickly and with all the information we needed whenever we had questions. Working with Angela helped us feel confident in the process and alleviated the stress. I can't imagine how much more difficult the visa process would have been without her help. Thank you, Angela!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Eugene, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
