*Note all previous reviews were written within days July / early August of 2013. Very legit. If you dont mind your attorney being RUDE and helping you be FRAMED, showing up in court high and filing dics to have clients ARRESTED after making a court date then just move along. Fraud is normal? She gets paid to defend people from their accusers but if she does not like you then she will have you ARRESTED to win points with coworkers, retaliate against complainants and discredit any accusers of malpractice. Malpractice. She exposed clients to covid and incarceration on her OWN initiative. She should not be an attorney. She should not be paid by taxpayers. She is the hypocritical ilk of her client base and i wish her the very best in her recovery but sending clients to JAIL because she "doesnt like their attitude" makes her a criminal.

Ashlee answered my initial questions quickly and thoroughly. Since then, she will spontaneously drop me a line with new information she has found that's relevant to the issues in which she represents me. We talked about personnel and employment matters, and she helped me refine my personnel policy manual and position myself to avoid future labor-relations problems.

Ashlee Wiese gave me legal advice regarding my family law situation. It's been an emotional time for me during my divorce, and she was the voice of reason when I needed it. it's way too easy to be swept up in all the crazy emotions of a marriage breaking apart, but she had compassion and helped me keep a clear head when I just wanted to be angry and vindictive. She explained to me my rights and what constituted legal standing, and I was able to make informed and rational decisions about my situation. My daughter and I are grateful to Ms. Wiese that she guided us through a very uncomfortable time and helped get us the resolution that made sense for our family and respected all our feelings in the situation. Ms. Wiese is professional, compassionate, hard-working, and very knowledgeable.

I really can't recommend Kelsea enough. She remained professional through some pretty frustrating and stressful litigation with my ex. Most of all I always felt confident that she was advocating for my wants and needs. Needless to say, going through a divorce is an emotional process but I knew that I had an ally through it all who kept in constant communication about every step and made sure that I felt heard and taken care of. Not only was Kelsea available for my every question, the front desk and other employees that worked with her handled my entire divorce process tactfully and with grace. If you want someone in your corner, I recommend her highly.

I am disabled, my husband left me, after 32 years, because he didn't want a disabled wife. I was a hot mess, when I came to Kelsea. She could have told me no, I had to switch to her, with only weeks to go. She took me on, and, because she's in an office with other attorneys, it's like you get all their advice. Kelsea asked others in her firm, more experienced, to make sure all our info was correct. She was fantastic, I was falling apart at the end, and, she hung in there with me, helped me make decisions, get it settled out of court. I was so scared of being sick and alone, no money to live, as I can't work. Kelsea made sure I got the settlement I needed, so I would be OK. I got served again by my ex last night, he wants to terminate my support, and, life insurance he has to keep, with myself as beneficiary. I sent Kelsea an email, and, I have no doubt, she'll do as fantastic a job as before!

Working with Kelsea and her firm through a custody case was an exceptional experience through a very hard time. From the first phone call, Kelsea really listened to the situation where other lawyers simply dismissed us. She jumped right into a complex and time-sensitive situation. Kelsea was responsive, thorough and insightful throughout a very long process. She not only knew the case, the law and the judge, she really got to know us and argued eloquently and tirelessly for our needs and priorities. When the judge threw curve balls in chambers, Kelsea hit home runs every time. The whole team at the firm supported each other well and were all incredibly helpful and friendly. We could not recommend Kelsea more highly.

When our grandson was badly injured in an ATV accident, sustaining life-long injuries, we went in search of a skilled and ethical attorney to help achieve reasonable financial aid for our grandson’s future, which had been greatly altered. We were referred to Corson & Johnson Law Firm. We first met Don Corson when he came to our home to meet with us and to discover more about our situation. He immediately made us comfortable with his friendly but professional demeanor. And I couldn’t have been more impressed with his depth of legal knowledge. But more than that, it was clear he cared about our grandson’s well-being. In the many months that followed it became obvious to us that we had the best attorney in the state of Oregon working alongside us. Don was always a professional, but he was more than just an attorney to us. He became a friend. As it turned out, Don Corson did a fabulous job and our grandson will be well taken care of throughout his life. Along with a sense of assurance about our grandson’s future well-being, we also have a life-long friend. There are no sufficient words to thank Don Corson and his staff for all they did for us and our grandson. We have no hesitation in recommending his services to others. You won’t be sorry.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Eugene, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
