It has been awhile since I used this law firm, but I can't say enough good about Joe Quinn and his associates. I had an extremely difficult situation and it is only a slight exaggeration to say that they save my life and sanity. The result of their efforts allowed me to make a new beginning. I can not thank them enough. Joe is a real "mensch." He provided me with the exact result I needed. No nickle and dimming to death, as is often the case. I highly recommend Joe and this law firm.

I spoke with several attorneys to discuss what my options were for filing bankruptcy with a specific focus on discharging my school loans. I was aware that school loans are extremely difficult to discharge if not impossible. I met with Joe twice and knew right away he was the one I should go with. With high hopes we began the process right away as time was of the essence in my case. He knew exactly what steps needed to be taken and in the most effective order in which the steps were to be completed. There were several components to my case as we were trying to discharge private and federal student loans along with the general bankruptcy discharge. He was also able to stop my garnishment right away. He gave me great advice during our initial meeting as well as throughout the process. His paralegal Melissa was also fantastic. If I couldn't get in touch with Joe, Melissa was always available to correspond with me. She is very knowledgeable and is great at what she does! When it was all said and done my general bankruptcy got approved without a hitch and then came word that my student loans were being dismissed. This was a huge burden that was drowning me for quite some time and the amount of stress weighing on me from these debts was immeasurable! Joe contacted me to discuss specifics before signing anything and a couple weeks later I got an official Order in the mail from the judge confirming that I owed nothing more on my student loans. Words cannot describe the relief I felt receiving that order. My case is now closed and I owe zero debt. I was able to keep ownership of my home and every penny of past debt has been discharged, including both private and federal student loans. I can't thank Joe enough for what he has given back to me. I highly recommend Joe Quinn and I'm so happy I chose him. Not many attorneys have experience with discharging school loans. He knew from our first meeting the steps that needed to be taken and what would be entailed. And in the end he was successful. Highly highly recommend!

Patrick was extremely knowledgeable, honest and courteous when my husband and I hired him to help prepare our Will and Power of Attorney. We had some atypical situations that we needed an expert to help us with to make sure that all of our children were well taken care of, and Patrick really helped us navigate through the confusion. We will use him again and and again if and when the need arises for legal services.

I was in a car accident caused by another driver and smashed my nose on the steering wheel. The injuries ultimately required two surgeries to repair correctly. The insurance company for the driver downplayed my claim and made a low ball offer that I actually considered taking. Thankfully I consulted Mr. Kurtas who took the matter and ended up getting me the full coverage from the other driver as well as the full underinsured coverage from my own insurance company. In total, he recovered more than 6 times the amount that I was initially offered. I could not be happier with the result.

I highly recommend Patrick Kurtas to handle your divorce!. He represented my family member and did an excellent job protecting his pre-marital assets that were being argued as marital. He took it a step further, finding a case law that protected his 401K. Patrick is an expert in finance applying all details to get the best possible result. He was considerate and understanding to my family's situation. We are grateful and can't thank him enough!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pottstown, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
