Pros
1
Excellent legal representation and positive case outcomes
“Mr Duckworth was my representing attorney in a pending charge and from our first meeting he did his best to set my mind at ease. It was my first (and god willing only) time in a criminal court and needless to say I was uncomfortable. He displayed total compassion and understanding of the facts.”
2
Highly skilled and professional attorneys
“Tony is a very hard man to get ahold of but always seemed to have my best interest at hand He did the job I hired him to do and worked with me on payments through some hardships”
3
Excellent communication and client support
“Very Attentive, Flexible, And Communicative! Thank You For The Help! Actually Pushing Through And With Respect And Quick Responses Emails, Texts, And Calls!”
Cons
1
Difficulty reaching attorneys and lack of responsiveness
“PLEASE DO NOT HIRE THIS FIRM...THEY ARE MOSTLY INTERESTED IN TAKING YOUR MONEY...THEY DO NOT RETURN CALLS...THEY DO NOT CONTACT YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR OPTIONS...”
2
Concerns about attorneys not fully advocating for clients
“Informed the attorney to advise what the best outcome of my case would be straight up jail time and wanted another 1,000 to help represent me. The staff does not have your best interest at heart.”
3
Instances of poor service and unprofessional conduct
“Worse lawyer ever. He tells you everything you want to hear but he doesn't lift a finger! He won't go see you in jail either! His staff is just a horrible and lazy, they'll never return your calls, won't do anything but take your money and let you go to prison.”

Matlak and Morrison are simply the best! I couldn't be more pleased with the final decision on my case. My attorney, Paul Morrison, is amazing. He got my case dismissed and he was a pleasure to work with. My husband and I, both, felt totally at ease and confident that Paul would get me the best possible outcome. I am beyond grateful to have had such an awesome team defending me and seeing how the whole ordeal only lasted 2 months all I can say is... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! The best criminal defense attorneys in Montgomery County. They will take care of you!

I had a case of posession of marijuana in Montgomery county jail for less than 2 ounces I was dropped a felony to a misdemeanor and served 1 year probation. He was even there for me when I was revoked my probation in 2009 and although this review was due a long time ago. It's always better late than ever to tell everyone that Gilbert Garcia is a great lawyer and is very well known. He will fight for you!

Being that this was my first time to file a patent, I had several questions about the process and a great need for it to be done correctly the first time. Thanks to Serena, my overall experience exceeded all expectations. She truly cares about the client in making sure all questions are answered thoroughly and in a timely manner. Her professionalism and knowledge left me feeling confident that everything would be done correctly. She pays close attention to detail and was patient in educating me along the way. I was kept in the loop throughout the entire process and now have an understanding as to what to expect going forward. I highly recommend Serena, Beth in the Denver office, and the Eldridge Law Firm overall if you are wanting your idea patented correctly.

Competent, caring and hard-charging...it's a powerful combination! Jack Wayne Little and Paula Elliott are the dynamic duo when it comes to dealing with recalcitrant insurance companies. These two attorneys compliment each other in the best possible way and accomplished miracles for my husband and me. We are elated with the results that their hard work produced for us!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Conroe, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
