Joy degenhart was unprofessional, disrespectful and treads the line of being unhinged when criticized or questioned (at least in my situation). I hired her to represent me in my divorce in 2022. I questioned her about some charges and hoped to renegotiate my contract with the firm. I was immediately dropped as a client and was even charged for a meeting that she had with James Rey to drop me as a client.
I asked her why and she literally responded
“ because I don’t like you “. She also proceeded to step into my personal space yelling at me to leave, which I perceived as a way for her to provoke me, so I left the office, understandably shaken.
I filed a grievance with the texas state bar but somehow her behavior was considered acceptable.
As a person of color and a veteran who went through an incredibly difficult and emotional time, I would not recommend this firm for representation. It is hard enough to go through a divorce, but it can be harder when your attorney won’t even put on a facade to care.
Any unflattering information presented will be met aggression from this firm. Which is a reason why I waited to make this post.

Just when I had lost all hope about my child support case. James Rey Attorneys picked up my case after my previous attorney had dropped it, due to him becoming a judge, and ran with it. James Rey Attorneys gave me back that hope I had lost, even the confidence that I needed. They took the time to hear me out, and without hesitation they were quick to initiative and pick up my case, where we had left off. They didnt stop until we came up with an agreement and arrangement where I was happy. The communication from this team was outstanding. They kept me up to date with everything and answered all questions I had. Having a strong team like the James Rey Attorneys was definitely a privilege and a great experience. I could only imagine if I would of started with this attorney at the beginning of my case. Still all in all, I'm very happy with the closing of my case. Thank you James Rey Attorneys.

I'll begin my review with a small amount of advice. When a divorce is imminent, do not wait to search for an attorney or never try to get through the process alone. My recommendation is to call the James Rey law firm and ask to speak to Joy Dagenhart.
Two years ago, after my divorce was final, it was important for me to have a professional go over my decree and clarify some things. To make a long story short, Joy helped me conclude and finalize my divorce as painless and thoroughly as possible.
James Rey Attorneys was highly recommended for my needs, and I offer the same level of recommendation today. A small consultant fee can save you thousands over the long run, and I am certain that your needs will be met here. In addition the staff were attentive and just as helpful as my attorney.
Thank you,
Clavo Martinez

Joy Degenhart worked my son's divorce. Initially she was very attentive and seemed to care about his case. However, as the process moved along it became increasingly difficult to get an appointment to speak with her. It also seemed as though we had to continually ask for an update and things didn't seem to get done until we followed up with her. When she accused our son of "blowing up" his own case I asked why she didn't meet with our son prior to the court date with the judge to go over what he should and shouldn't say and/or do. She accused me of attacking her and promptly hung up on us. She has since dropped our son as a client even though his case isn't finished and we have an upcoming court date with no lawyer to help us. Joy and the James Rey firm took approximately $12,000 from us over the past 15 or so months and they have left us high and dry. She accused me and our son of unprofessional behavior when she is being completely unprofessional herself. I do NOT recommend this law firm.

One star is too much
Always check your invoices. This office is money hungry, especially her because she enters the amounts because she doesn’t think your going to review them. She also comes in with a big chest as how she’s going to handle a case and then when she finds out who shes up against she changes her story! Weak! And she wants to run for judge. Yikes. ….shadey

I had talked with Joy Degenhart about moving my case to Texas from kansas since my child had been living here for over a year. She said as soon as we get out of litigation she could immediately move my case. I flew to Texas for visitation with my daughter and walked into the Office to pay the $1500 retainer. When I entered the office I saw that she was running for judge. I needed to change jurisdiction and get an emergency hearing for holiday visitation. I had an appointment on the 7th, but I wanted to make sure everything was paid for prior so we could get started so my very tight time constraints of thr holidays were taken care of. Two ladies in her office told me it was impossible to do anything prior to the 7th. I asked to pay so we were not waiting on the payment. I was in complete shock when the lady ASKED ME TO LEAVE THE BUILDING! She said until the 7th I needed to pay and she asked that I leave. I said "I came on here to pay and retain Miss Dagenhart and you're asking me to leave?" She said "yes and I'm canceling your appointment" I could not believe the lack of morality. My daughter is 7 and if I can't find a lawyer who cares about father's getting to see their child for Christmas I will be heart broken since clearly the people working for Miss Dagenhart could care less about people getting time with their kids even though they fly from across the county to retain them. If she is elected I would certainly hope her morals are better than the title because today that was absolutely not the case with her team! I also felt blind sided that she never told me she may only be able to be my lawyer for a year. Her help is an extension of her and the unprofessionalism that I received was uncalled for and blatantly disrespectful. I asked for Miss Dagenhart to call me herself and let me know know the 7th. The lady smiled at me sarcastically and said "she'll send you an email" I will be waiting to see how Miss Dagenhart handles this, but now I'm freaking out because apparently I don't have a lawyer for an emergency matter.
