Matt was able to take on my divorce and be able to tackle the tough complex issues, both children & business related, which ultimately achieved what was a fair and just outcome. Matt’s ability to understand my goals and what I wanted where parallel to his ability to negotiate while getting the job done in an expedited manner. I was lucky to have chosen Matt Tyson as my attorney. Going through custody is tough enough and I didn’t have a leg to stand on. He was there for solid advise, told me his honest opinions and what was achievable. We received what we asked for and more. He kept me in the know through the process, took the lead and blew the opposing council out of the water. He’s a bulldog, who made the competitions’ capability appear laughable. James Hedlesten deserves the highest praise for being an ethical and honest lawyer. In addition he is smart, tough and eloquent in the courtroom. I wish we had hired James at the beginning of the divorce process but we did not and consequently have continued to have problems with the ex-husband, substance abuse and visitation with 2 young children. James has gone to battle for us so that these young children have a chance to grow up to be healthy and happy. Now we are able to sleep at night knowing that James will stand toe to toe with anyone and win. His knowledge of the law and empathy for his clients makes him a force to be reckoned with. Just wish we had found him sooner.

After my grandson’s mother died suddenly Dec 2017, I had no idea I would end up in a child custody suit. This is my son’s child that I had taken care of most of his life. Please realize the 'gift' of a star stems from the inability to provide less; regardless, I proffered $5,000 for the firm to locate the son of my fiance who had recently been taken from school surreptitiously an hour before school exited and despite his backpack bearing warnings installed by the school not to let the child leave with the man who bore no legal documentation even hinting at a relationship (birth certificate, etc). The law office informed us that the process might take some time, but almost invariably resulted in a return of considerable funds in addition to a positive custodial arrangement in favor of the mother (who in this case, raised the child without assistance of any kind from the father, nor did she even hear from the father for the over a year of the child's life). The process did indeed take an extremely long time, and when the man was found we were advised that Mediation must be completed prior to any court rulings. I was not allowed to be present, but the document she was enticed to sign (despite an obvious lack of legalese, failed to provide any of the warm sounding expectations emphasized when securing the 5000 capital, which was no insignificant sum to her, but nothing she wouldn't magnify for a reasonable settlement. When I called, admittedly somewhat irate at her treatment, I was told she got the best she could hope for since it had been months since she had visited the child. We were waiting for the law firm to track down the man who had absconded with the child. Ridiculous. In exception to this, my fiance was called after receiving Mediation papers from this man, and an offer to let her attend a birthday celebration if she agreed to get rid of her fiance (myself), in the hardly subtle expectation that she choose the man, I'll call the defendant, to take my place at her side. Instead of apologies, or the repeatedly suggested return of initial investment, I was sent an additional bill asking for half again as much with further interest charges should I not act quickly. I am uncertain as to the veracity of this final statement, but the "defendant' advised that all this was accomplished without his hiring a lawyer or attending the mitigation in person at all. My fiance, confirmed that the 'defendant' remained sequestered upstairs and never spoke with her or her lawyer to her knowledge. Perhaps that's standard? If so, it seems ridiculous as well. Something stinks in Denmark, and I'm afraid not so far from home if you live in Houston. Wipe this location of your map if custody is your desire.

I did endless amounts of research to find a good attorney for my custody case after being totally taken advantage of by my divorce attorney. I spoke with a few all we’re giving no signs of hope to drop a temporary order that was filed against me. James called me on a Sunday and he was the first one that did not say it was a hopeless matter. He always responds he gives clear consistent answers and when I would get anxious he would stop me and tell me what was going to happen and it was always accurate. We against all odds got through not one but two hearings for the same matter both not giving relief to my ex husband on his temporary order. He has been a blessing and moving forward with my custody modification I’m confident it will take a turn to be ruled in my favor. He is a force when he walks into the court room, goes above and beyond to get the result that we were set out to get. James restored my faith in attorney’s and with him representing me I don’t walk in to court nervous about the outcome because I know he won’t back down until we are satisfied with the outcome.
