I was arrested on a warrant and my mom retained Kurt Helgesen for me. After almost 2 weeks, I found out that he had done absolutely nothing on my case. He did not even know the difference between a cash and surety bond. The prosecutor on my case changed three times within a week and he had no explanation as to what happened. Maybe he is good for civil cases, but he seemed out of his depth when it came to a complex criminal case.

Kurt Helgesen has been incrediably helpful, knowledgable and empathetic to our situation. I was recently charged with what I felt was a serious crime that could have long lasting consequences. I did not want the crime to go on my permanent record and affect future employment opportunities or graduate school application. Luckily I was able to obtain Kurt Helgesen as my attorney. This was my first experience in dealing with the law and the court system so I was very unsure about everything. In my initial meeting I was able to talk to Kurt about my case and what my possible options were. I immediately felt better as he explained my constitutional rights in defending myself. He told me exactly what would happen when I appeared in the courtroom before the judge so there were no surprises. This gave me comfort and confidence throughout the duration of my case. The day of my pretrial Kurt met me at the courtroom and my uneasiness that I had felt that day was calmed. All I had to do was sit and wait. Kurt was able to meet with the prosecutor and after reasoning and doing whatever lawyers do when they are hashing out deals was able to reach a very favorable outcome for me. I had originally been charged with a class B misdemeanor. It carried a maximum punishment of 6 months jail time and $1000 fine. It was knocked all the way down to a measly infraction and $100 fine! Initially the prosecutor was only willing to drop it to a class C misdemeanor but Kurt knew he could still get a better deal for me. I knew I received a good deal when the prosecutor presented the new proposed arrangement before the judge and the judge had to have the prosecutor repeat it. The judge was still struggling to see how this class B charge had been dropped to an infraction level charge and this is when Kurt stepped in again. Kurt was standing with me before the judge and asked to counsel with him, to explain why this agreement had been made. This was vital since the judge clearly explained to me that he could assign any punishment he wished, the prosecutors proposal was merely a suggestion that he, the judge, usually followed. After hearing Kurt out the judge basically went along with the proposal. I was cited for an infraction and $130 fine (the judge raised the fine $30). After paying the fine, I was home free! I don't have to worry about this stupid event in my life anymore. I would recommend Kurt Helgesen to anyone needing legal help for the first time. His ability be personable and relate to me for the unknown journey ahead was assuring. Then again I would recommend Kurt to anyone hiring a lawyer regardless of their law background because of the favorable outcome he was able to obtain for me. CASE CLOSED.

Kurt's father, Jack Helgesten took my telephone call regarding the information on my judgments. Jack, one of the most honorable and truthful men I have ever known, assured me that he did not deal in collections, but Kurt did. He said I would get a telephone call soon. I did, and in fact, met with Kurt the next day. He was warm, direct, and said he would get back with me suggesting it may take some time to get all the required documentation. I have had chances to be in their office on other occasions and noticed how friendly the receptionist was to clients, calling them by name, asking if she could get them a soft drink, or a drink of water. This firm is an At law firm. They seem honest and full of integrity coupled with a desire to serve their clients to the best of their ability.

In our case we live in New Jersey so it was hard to find a lawyer in Utah and trusting without even meeting the lawyer but we found Kurt Helgesen. He is a very honest lawyer and very loyal always making sure we were up to date on the case. He would always answer our questions via email or telephone and as soon as he was able to, didn't matter the time. He cares about your situation as if it was his own. We are very thankful for all the help and good advices, also for the time he took in our case. We recommend Kurt to anyone that needs assistance on a case.

Kurt along with his office staff kept me informed as to how my case was going and what I could expect next. He spoke clearly to me and made sure to answer all my questions until he knew I understood completely. Kurt handled my divorce very efficiently. My situation had a lot of unknown variables due to debt, self employed business and rental properties. I thought it was going to be really complicated and was going to take a long time, but he really knew what he was doing and was able to answer all my questions very clearly. He was also very good at responding in a timely manner anytime I had a question or concern. He is a fair attorney and was able to look out for my best interests. I was having problems with a used car purchase. The dealership sold me some warranties that they said I could cancel if I wanted to, but when I tried to cancel them, they would not let me. They kept on giving me the run a round and that is when I knew I needed Kurt's expertise on the matter. As soon as I Kurt got involved, the ball was rolling and the dealership suddenly wanted to work with me. The dealership was willing to give me some of the warranty money back but Kurt would not allow for that and I ended up getting every single penny back that I requested. This saved me thousands!! I owe this all to Kurt's professionalism and willingness to not back down. He corrected a very stressful circumstance and turned it into a sweet victory!
