No one uses legal services when things are good. The stress one goes through during a bankruptcy is immense. Beyond the effective legal expertise, Xue and a partner at Wade, Grimes, Friedman, Meinken, Leischner, PLLC, offered empathy and humanity through this process. Xue set clear expectations and delivered on her efforts. I am forever grateful for having Ms. Connelly as my lawyer and for the expertise of the entire law firm. I highly recommend Xue if you want a professional who has excellent client service and attention.

I once heard this from a well respected lawyer & TV journalist on a news program, "You hire a lawyer to 'make it go away'..." The 'it' being whatever the problem is that is weighing you down. I hired my lawyer, Xue Franco Connelly and colleagues, to make my financial debt problem go away...and we did it via a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy program. After 4 years, my wife and I are happily debt free and we repaid all our creditors in full...which was not my preferred choice but nonetheless in the end personally satisfying to repay all the money I had borrowed with a structured and manageable re-payment plan. Working together, we did "make it go away" and for that, I thank Xue and her team. I might also add my own personal quote... "A lawyer is not your friend but can be friendly". I found Xue to be very friendly, even when giving me the straight talk which is often the unavoidable less preferred choices of must be done legalese that must be accepted because in order to be approved for a Ch. 13 plan, one must sometimes repay 100% of everything as the law is the law and even the best of lawyers cannot make THAT go away. You see, making a problem go away involves navigating our nation's legal system of laws. In this, sometimes the facts are unavoidable, even for the best of lawyers. The law is the law and the job of any lawyer is to lay out the sometimes unpleasant choices a client must accept according to the law. My lawyer was always pleasant in presenting these facts, even when telling me unpleasant facts...such as, 'No you do not qualify for Chapter 7 because you earn too much money under the rule of law". A lawyer is not a magician to make a problem disappear, but rather a trail boss on a long journey to reach an end after taking the path known expertly by the lawyers. A long journey is not always easy, but you can and will over a set amount of time reach the end. My lawyer, Xue Franco Connelly, did indeed help me reach the long trail's end with an encouraging friendly smile at check-in meetings and kind understanding emails where paperwork was needed along navigating my Chapter 13 journey. I am now debt free and breathing easier. Thanks Xue!

My wife and I needed to update our Wills before moving outside the country and we needed it done fast. We contacted Wade, Grimes, Friedman, Meinken & Leischner, PLLC based on the good reviews online and we were quickly put into contact with Mrs. Connelly. She was very professional and ensured the whole process went smoothly. She also ensured all of our questions were answered in a very timely manner. A great firm to hire!

Yancey and Zach are phenomenal attorneys and I couldn't be more pleased with the way that they handled my case. They were true professionals from the start, and treated me with respect and compassion throughout the whole scary and uncertain process. They made themselves available to answer any questions I had or to walk me through any concerns that I brought up. I felt comfortable in all of my interactions with them and they kept me up to speed on all things legal related to my case. Although I would not wish my experience on anyone, I will forever be grateful to Yancey Ellis and Zach Deubler for getting me through the most traumatic experience of my life. I am incredibly thankful for the professionalism and care they showed not only me, but my family as well. They are the best of the best!

Excellent service in every respect! Yancee Ellis, who handled my case, not only quickly understood the facts of the case from my descriptions, he also researched and uncovered additional facts on line, and from his sources, and developed winning defense arguments at the Preliminary Hearing, resulting in an extraordinarily rare, "No Probable Cause" outcome bringing my case to a successful conclusion. I hearty recommend him, and the firm for anyone needing good, through legal council.

I engaged Kylie Newsom of Moore, Christoff, & Siddiqui, to represent me as the Plaintiff to argue a civil litigation case concerning negligence in a dog attack. Kylie made an incisive examination of the facts, and questioned witnesses in court with precision and poise that resulted in a favorable ruling. I could not have been more pleased with Kylie’s diligence and heartily recommend her legal services.

Emily Sripinyo is a Legal Superstar! 🌟 Emily Sripinyo truly went above and beyond in reviewing my prenup. Despite juggling a busy schedule with other court cases, she made sure to dedicate ample time and attention to my needs. The prenup, originally drafted by my fiancée's lawyer, was a daunting 37 pages long, filled with complex legal jargon. Emily was a beacon of clarity and support, consistently reminding me that my fiancée and I are on the same team. She meticulously sifted through the document, eliminating unnecessary terms and provisions, and brilliantly condensed it to a much more manageable 24 pages. Her explanations were clear and thorough, making what seemed like an overwhelming task feel completely manageable. Emily's dedication, expertise, and personable approach made the entire process so much easier for me. I am incredibly grateful for her outstanding work and highly recommend her to anyone in need of legal assistance. Emily Sripinyo is truly the best! 🙌✨

Exceptional Representation: Kylie I can't express enough how grateful my roommate and I are for having Kylie represent us during our potential eviction ordeal. From the outset, Kylie's affordability, coupled with her exceptional communication skills, put us at ease. Throughout the entire process, she made sure we understood every step and procedure involved, ensuring transparency and clarity. Her dedication to our case was evident, and she went above and beyond to ensure a smooth resolution. Thanks to Kylie, what could have been a stressful experience turned into a manageable situation. We highly recommend her services to anyone in need of reliable legal representation. My roommate and I are young women with little experience of legal proceedings. I promise you won’t regret your decision!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Alexandria, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
