Complete waste of money, almost cost me the most important piece of my life (my children). I would literally do EVERYTHING for the case. EVERYTHING. All she had to do was present it and she couldn't even do that right. I had to fire her mid court hearing it was that bad and the judge wouldn't let me speak because "I hired an attorney to speak for me" The ONLY positive thing I can say about working with her is that I became so knowledgeable and good at the legal system, I ended up getting a scholarship to attend law school.

I have dealt with damages from, trying to get rid of and be done with, this sorry excuse of an attorney. She was highly unprofessional during my few dealings with her, discussing other cases by name in front of me, using profanity during meetings, NEVER returning calls herself...the list goes on. I received multiple calls from her office during which I was told I needed to track down and obtain this document or the other. I would also be instructed that *I* needed to pay for however many copies of each that she required (even though they would have been free had her office done so) and then bring them into her. If it wasn't documents she wanted, it was for me to make phone calls to various professionals. Now, I'm fairly sure that the hard come by cash I had paid her was so that SHE would be handling all this. All said and done, there was not one single thing she did in any legal capacity to further my case AT ALL. In all truth I feel her actions, or I should say, her lack of appropriate action, ANY action, caused significant damage to the incredibly important matter I entrusted her with.

I was rear ended by a tractor trailer while I was stopped at a red light. The trouble was that I was in a loaner car from my dealership because my car was being serviced. After the hospital and doctors visits, I had to deal with insurance company after insurance company. Each one denied responsibility because I wasn't in my own car. I had no idea what to do and my health insurance wasn't going to cover my physical therapy. Then, I hired Mr. Woodhouse. He told me to concentrate on healing, follow my doctor's orders, and that he would take care of the rest. That's real peace of mind. Not only did he deliver on his promises, but he kept me in the loop though the whole process. He got the insurance company to admit fault and then got me more money than I ever thought possible. He even negotiated my medical bills from physical therapy! And everything was all taken care of within a few months. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Mr. Woodhouse again. He did a great job with my claim and is a great attorney. I would recommend him to my friends and family.

We may have lost a battle but we won the war, with that being said, Ms. Nace was very straight forward. She provided with her team, a family feeling from the team. She went above and beyond for my case with listening to everything I had to say. Every time I would call or send an email I would get a fast response and a honest one. The reason I choose this law firm was due to me speaking to someone a few years back at the firm and based on the phone conversation was the reasoning in reaching out again because I felt good vibes through a phone call that made me know they weren't here for anything other then the best for me. We went before the judge and presenting our case and reasons and even though the outcome wasn't what we expect, she didn't give up. She informed me what I could do and after thinking about it I reached out and explained my plan as such. She went above and beyond and I couldn't ask for anyone else. She was well prepared and stood and fought. She keeps positive enegry with and around her. You know you're in good hands and a positive one as well. She kept me up to date with every move she was making and everything that was being communicated between her and her team. I couldn't thank her more for the effort and time she put into hearing me and working my case. She's a delight and wonderful person. Thank you for your hard work and dedication for my son and I. You're truly a blessed person.

Katherine and the entire team at Holcomb Law were a pleasure to work with. I am extremely happy I chose them to represent me against a Reckless Driving charge due to an accident. Katherine knew the court and the judge. The process was streamlined and we were in and out in minutes. Couldn't have been easier.

Ms. Nace and everyone else at Holcomb Law were amazing to deal with. She let me know what was going on at all times and always kept me up to date. She also answered all of my questions in a timely manner while always being very professional. They offer to pray with you and I took advantage of that often, and it worked! I now have an attorney for life (although I hope I never need one again)!

Around 2020, I discovered that I had somehow been declared deceased. This was rather strange, because I certainly did not feel decreased. This had many negative consequences, particularly on my credit reports. I did research on the best way to deal with this and it was clear that I needed a lawyer. I contacted a couple who weren't responsive, then I was fortunate enough to have found Craig Marchiando of Consumer Litigation Associates. Craig is on the opposite side of the country from me, but everything was handled perfectly by phone and email, with help from his legal assistant, Sydnee Shirley and senior paralegal, Vicki Crissman. Craig did an excellent job of keeping my expectations realistic and keeping me updated when necessary, in what is a LONG process, by its very nature. I am limited in what I can say due to the terms of my non-disclosure agreement, but I will say that Craig went far beyond ANY realistic expectations in my particular case and I was DELIGHTED with the outcome.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Newport News, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
