I am a young, IT professional, residing in the Northern Virginia area who has been familiar with divorce, separation and family law for about 4 years now. This is due to a really bad divorce and child custody battle between my ex wife and I. I had two attorneys that I retained the first time around and although i got what i feel was decent representation, it did not come close to what Lindsay has done for me. It was like she took this case personally. Unlike previous lawyers, Lindsay did not wait until last minute to prepare for this case. From day one she took the time ti not only get familiar with the case, but she took time to get to know me as an individual. This was especially important because i was the main witness in my defense. She took advantage of my strengths and took into consideration my weaknesses. This was critical in preparing me to take the stand. One thing that really stood out to me and comforted me in this matter was receiving emails from her late in the evening. This let me know that my case was of the upmost priority for her as that is usually time I personally reserve for personal matters and I would NEVER let work interrupt that, not Lindsay. I could really spend days going over why I am SO satisfied with her services, but I will save everyone the time. I got exactly what I had been asking for, from this case. Lindsay was very likable to the judge and had great confidence and delivery. Honestly, I would have written this review EVEN if things did NOT go my way in trial. She deserves it! I am a single father who just simply wants a relationship with his daughter and that's what Lindsay Rebecca Hendrix gave me. Give her a shot! Let her hear you out! Feel free to reach out to me on here if you have any questions about my experience with her but I can say with confidence that after one simple conversation with her, you will know you are in good hands. Best of luck yall, with all of your trial matters. Indrit Greblleshi - Defendant in the Greblleshi matter.

I retained Lindsey to represent me in my divorce. She gave me bad advise regarding custody of my child that I am fighting against several years later. She has ruined my child's life and there is little I can do about it now despite the fact I am court all the time with my ex. I regret ever meeting Lindsey.

Lindsay is the best of the best. I have looked far and wide, it is I that have left no stone unturned and I say if one needs the most talented lawyer available in matters of family and criminal law, you will not find a greater legal champion than Lindsay.

I have known Lindsay for many years and have consulted her in regard to a family law matter. Lindsay is extremely knowledgeable, does not leave any stone unturned, and fights for her clients. I would absolutely recommend her in any family or criminal law situation.

Scott has been my company's trusted legal advisor since our inception over 12 years ago and before that in several other ventures. He offers sound advice and legal service on issues including employment matters, corporate governance, contract negotiation and tax compliance. He has always been incredibly responsive and succinct in helping us work through our legal matters. There are very few of our advisors who have lasted the test of time like Scott. I couldn't recommend him highly enough. COO of $100 million US services company

Elizabeth Ho is an excellent choice - Thorough and knowledgeable, and spends time to listen to your concerns and questions. I chose this lawyer after reviewing about 6 other lawyers in the Washington, DC area. Elizabeth Ho helped us process my marriage based green card application and wills. She responded to my very first phone inquiry by spending quite a bit of time answering my questions and describing the application process in detail. Right after, she followed up with lists of documents to gather prior to seeing her in person. Ms. Ho was very careful in reviewing my green card application and providing advice as to what happens next. In addition, she offered to write our wills, which I meant to do for a while. This was perfect timing, because wills serve a very strong evidence of bona fide relationship. Importantly, once our application was submitted, Elizabeth kept following up on our application status , letting us know every time she receives a notice from government offices. This was very helpful since at one point, my mail stopped coming and I was afraid to miss my OPT notices. This was also especially appreciated because our case was already completed, and Ms. Ho was providing these updates solely as a courtesy. I have already receive my green card. Excellent choice - I highly recommend this lawyer.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?

  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Reston, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
