I am deeply thankful to Katya and her team at Stelmakh & Associates for their expertise and support throughout my EB-2 NIW process. When I first came to the firm, I was uncertain about navigating my immigration options as an F-1 visa holder with OPT. Katya provided clear, actionable advice that helped me establish my own business analytics and data mining company, which became the foundation of my green card petition. The team was diligent and supportive, helping me prepare a strong business plan and organize the necessary evidence to showcase my expertise and the potential impact of my company. Their guidance made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Thanks to their hard work, my EB-2 NIW petition was approved, and I’m thrilled with the outcome. Katya and her team are knowledgeable, dedicated, and truly invested in their clients' success. They’re an excellent choice for anyone looking for immigration support.

When I first approached Stelemakh and Associates , I was overwhelmed by the complexities of applying for an EB2 National Interest Waiver (NIW). Navigating the immigration process on my own seemed daunting, and I knew I needed expert guidance to ensure my application was handled properly and professionally. I chose Stelemakh and Associates after extensive research and reading glowing reviews about their expertise in EB2 NIW cases and also a referral from a friend. Their proven track record and reputation for personalized attention made them the ideal choice. From our initial consultation, I felt reassured by their deep understanding of the process and their confidence in addressing my unique case. The team at the law firm especially Katya and Carlie went above and beyond. They meticulously evaluated my qualifications, and crafted a good petition that highlighted my contributions and their national significance. They kept me informed every step of the way, and ensured that every detail of my case was perfect before submission. Thanks to their efforts, my EB2 NIW petition was approved! This approval is life-changing for me and my family. This approval has provided my career stability, security, and the ability to continue advancing my career in the U.S. without the constraints of employer sponsorship. I cannot thank Stelemakh and associates enough for their expertise, dedication, and support. If you’re looking for a team that genuinely cares about your success and delivers outstanding results.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Stelmakhlaw to file my EB1A petition, and I cannot express how grateful I am for their exceptional service. Initially, I faced uncertainty and anxiety about my immigration journey, having consulted with several law firms that left me feeling overwhelmed. However, Stelmakhlaw stood out due to their clarity, confidence, and proven track record with cases similar to mine. I had learned about them during an EB1A session led by a previously approved client, which further solidified my decision to choose their firm. Once I joined their program, the onboarding process was seamless. I quickly uploaded all required documents and met with their extended team to discuss my case in detail. I appreciated their flexibility in using tools like Google Drive for communication and document sharing, which made the entire process more efficient. The team was always available for online meetings and maintained timely, clear communication throughout. Even when my assigned attorney changed, the new attorney quickly got up to speed on my case without any disruption. Katya, the founder, played a crucial role in drafting my petition. Her dedication was evident as she went above and beyond to strengthen my application, even working on Thanksgiving and responding to my queries during weekends and holidays. Her commitment made a significant difference in my experience. I was thrilled when my petition was filed during the holiday schedule and approved in less than 15 days. The professionalism and clear communication from Stelmakhlaw highlighted their commitment to their clients. Working with them was hassle-free, and securing my EB1A visa has provided me with the peace of mind and security I needed to continue my life in the U.S. I highly recommend Stelmakhlaw to anyone seeking immigration assistance.

Sarah has taken us from incorporation through investment trademarking and every other thing that has come up. She is smart, fast, responsive and has the answers you need. She is also ably assisted which is really important when it comes to saving money and getting great service. She only gets involved when real legal decision making is required, otherwise everything runs smoothly under her review. Working under the auspice of Davis Wright Tremain (DWT.COM) means you have instant credibility with investors because you are working with a blue chip firm and you have access to specialist resources (IP etc) whenever you may need them. I originally looked at the least expensive way to get legal help and after some research happily discovered that this was it.

Sarah is a solid asset to any deal team doing work domestically or internationally. As outside counsel for a fast growing company, Sarah was the primary point person for multiple strategic transactions including: fundraising, cross-border M&A, sensitive regulatory dealings, and managing through constantly changing corporate/market demands. I've worked with Sarah multiple times over a 4-5 year period and I look forward to our next engagement.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Seattle, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
