“Attorney Block is the utmost professional and I'm truly appreciative of working with him in a complicated family dilemma which lasted two and a half years. He was exceptionally prepared for any task regarding my issues which involved probate estate versus will & trust distributions. He always made me feel confident that we were making the right decisions moving forward because he was able to interpret and explain the legal jargon in layman's terms.”
2

“I was very happy with the results and how my documents ended up. I would highly recommend this law firm, and I have such peace of mind knowing my affairs are in order.”
3

“I Absolute LOVE Block Legal Services. Mariah is very professional and sweet. My Attorney Nick DiUlio is wonderful. The fees I was charged were fair, and the services I received were outstanding.”
Cons
1
Lack of attention to detail and promptness in handling certain legal matters, leading to frustration and anxiety for some clients
“My interests were adversely affected by Attorney Block's inattention to detail, lack of promptness, and what I believe to be sheer negligence. Even when my interests were not affected in substance, his unreasonable delay and inattention to legal matters caused me needless anxiety and undermined my confidence in his trustworthiness.”
2
Potential inconsistency in the quality of service and communication, with some clients reporting excellent experiences and others expressing disappointment
“To me, it sounds like 'hollow appeasement,' and I will quote former British Prime Minister, the late Margaret Thatcher, whom I quote, 'I seem to smell the stench of appeasement in the air.' It is immoral to give hope to a client and not have any intention to assist, which parallels with a mirage in the desert where water doesn't exist despite a reflection of it.”

I Absolute LOVE Block Legal Services. Mariah is very professional and sweet. My Attorney Nick DiUlio is wonderful. He was hired to handled two major issues for me, and I will continue to be a client of this Law firm. The fees I was charged were fair, and the services I received were outstanding. I needed some repairs done on my home and needed to take out a loan. I was told that it wasn't going to happen until I went to probate court. Esq Nick DiUlio advised me that I did not need probate court, alI I needed was a simple form it took 24 hours and it was done. When the company I presented the form to rejected it. Nick jumped right in and advise the company he disagreed with their assessment and educated them on the law. It was beautiful to watch. He did not play any games with this company.

I was referred to Lindsey by Legal Shield. I didn't know what to expect and was quit shocked when I met with her for our first consultation. She instantly made me feel comfortable and I felt I was in good hands immedialty. She has been outstanding throughout the entire process. She is so compassionate and very detailed orientated. I was always so shocked how quickly she has gotten back to me with concerns I had. As busy as she is she continued to stay on top of things and is very knowledgeable about the law. I would refer her to anyone needing a family law attorney. Linsey has made this entire process so much easier and I am so thankful we had her as our attorney. She is absolutely amazing.

Lindsey was a wonderful attorney. She was very compassionate and thorough in her practice. Lindsey was eager to answer any questions that I may have had during the process and updated me regularly. She was very understanding, knowing that a family separation is not easy and was willing to go above and beyond to obtain a resolution.

Lindsey was the best thing to happen to me after my divorce. My ex had a large percentage of placement of our child and had been put in a position of power over me, making me feel like I had no option other than to barely see my son and pay an arm and a leg in child support. After hiring Lindsey (and a lengthy legal battle against my ex) I am in a much better position. She helped me through filing motions, finding compromise, and even communicating with my ex. Extremely helpful, completely knowledgeable, experienced in the field, friendly, and compassionate. I don't know where I'd be without her, she was of invaluable help.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brookfield, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
