Emi and Jay are incredible attorneys. I have never met two people who are as devoted as they are. Every question I had was answered. They are professional, prompt, but most importantly they care! Emi is incredibly hard-working and dedicated! She worked hand in hand with me, making sure each question I had was answered. My paperwork was always filed in a timely manner and she knew exactly how to handle every situation. Emi was attentive to all my needs and never made me feel bad for contacting her with questions. She always made sure to answer any I had. She is amazing!! I can’t say enough great things about Jay. From the first email to now I’ve seen his kindness. The best part about Jay is how realistic he is. He never overpromises and he is was open with me about every possible outcome. He let me know which things were reasonable and which were not. He works really hard and he takes his job and clients seriously. I have never trusted two people more in my life and I’m incredibly thankful that I had these two as my attorneys! Emi was nothing short of amazing in guiding me thru one of the worst and stressful experiences in my life! She came into my custody battle very late on (my fault) and worked so hard on it! She didn’t hesitate to answer any questions I had at any point and responded quickly and trust me mine wasn’t an easy one! Getting divorced is a very lengthy and horrible process generally speaking. This is why having a lawyer that understands your needs and supports you through the entire cycle is critical. Recently I received notification from Emi Koyama that she no longer wanted to represent me, just a short time prior to needing her the most – in court. Not only was the timing an issue, but the way my case was dismissed by her without regard for my personal situation or circumstances was very disappointing. I paid to have proper representation but most of all, to have someone to depend on when needed. - I obviously never received it.

I've had the pleasure of retaining Hall Underwood twice (originally only for temporary orders in 2015, then again for the rest of my divorce in 2016). Words really cannot express how grateful I am for all the effort Jay and his colleagues put in to my case, because everything I've been fighting for over the past year (my kids and their future), he fought just as hard for them on his end as counsel. After the temporary orders matter settled, I ended up retaining Jay and his firm again a few months later after unsuccessfully trying to settle the rest of the issues. Opposing counsel was extremely dodgy and refused to provide mandatory discovery for months even after I retained them. They were calm and professional dealing with my ex's unreasonably difficult attorney and eventually forced them to hand over everything we needed. The most impressive part of Jay's performance was that he noticed a subtle, yet significant defect in the wording of the proposed parenting plan we received and capitalized on it, which allowed me to place the children in any school in the valley with zero restrictions and ultimately place them in the best school possible (one of the things that is EXTREMELY important to me). Needless to say, my ex wasn't very happy about that, and her attorney fought pretty hard to try to save face in the wake of his devastating blunder. He tried to back out of the agreements that we had made that were not yet binding, tried to conduct an untimely noticed and frivolous deposition, tried to make misleading arguments so I'd be the one to have to pay child support, tried rearrange the parenting time schedule, and continually threatend an award of attorney's fees if we didn't give in to his demands. Naturally, Jay knew it was all just an act and didn't fall for it. Eventually, after all the discovery was completed, Jay gave him an ultimatum. Either this case settles, or we go to trial and we'll almost certainly collect an award of attorney's fees from having to enforce the parenting plan we agreed to (which was binding pursuant to Rule 69). Needless to say, they chose the former. I really couldn't be happier with the results of my case. Not only did I get almost exactly what I wanted out of my divorce, but also my fees for the entire case were only about one-third (1/3) of what my ex paid for her attorney (hers was hourly), who has been practicing for over 30 years, and we still came out slightly ahead. I think that speaks to how amazing Jay and his colleagues are in their profession. Having dealt with a dozen or so other attorneys in my divorce, Jay and his firm is the only law firm I'll ever recommend to family and friends.

Erena was an excellent attorney from beginning to end. She showed extensive knowledge of the process as well as possible outcomes and was comforting and confident throughout the entire process, even when we encountered challenges. Lastly she has been responsive and followed through with all her commitments related to my case. I would recommend Erena to any family and friends and am confident she will be as professional and caring about their case as she was with mine.
