Barney it's a great family attorney. I explained him the hard situation that I was going through my marriage and he guided me in all the divorce process to get it done in a very healthy way. Nobody gets married anticipating that they'll ultimately divorce. In the event you need these services and you're amenable to finding a solution that works for the two of you, then Barney is your best bet. Under most circumstances I think his flat rate deal makes sense. Regardless, even if you go over and you're charged at an hourly rate, it's significantly less than if each party hires an attorney and takes it to court. Once you do that, you've handed over all the decision making to somebody who's not you and your soon-to-be former partner. You have to know what is 'enough' for you and not be seeking to take your soon-to-be former spouse to the cleaners. You have to be willing to sit with the messiness of it and the emotions related to it and trust the process. Barney's really good at letting things breathe. He's not ignoring you when he doesn't answer your email quickly. He's letting you marinate in your own stuff. And you have to. You and your soon-to-be former spouse are untangling finances, residence, kids, belongings, assets .... It's a lot and on top of that, it's emotional. No one person in this process is going to be super happy. But if you can walk away from it feeling as though it was fair, that's the best anyone can expect. Definitely hire a consulting attorney to review your document to watch out for your best interests. But you need to keep them in check with acknowledging what you know you've given up in exchange for peace of mind and cohesiveness in the light of separation/divorce. Check your gut and figure out what's enough for you.

Look, no one is stoked to be looking for a divorce mediator, but if you've landed on Barney you've made a good call. My divorce could have been extraordinarily awful given all the details (I'll spare you, you're welcome), but working with Barney made it as simple and clear and healthy a process as it possibly could have been. He is soft-spoken and has a soothing demeanor, which is absolutely ideal for this line of work. He was careful to remain completely neutral on every element, had tons of helpful advice when my ex-husband and I stalled on reaching a compromise, and he prepared the paperwork cleanly and accurately. I could not have asked for more. And I would gladly have paid more than he charges!

Barney was truly helpful in my divorce and made the process understandable and timely. Mediation with him was the best avenue for us and Barney came highly recommended. His communication was clear, his feedback was fair and I felt like he had both our interest in balance.
