Awful work from Athina Powers and her firm. She is a thief and a liar. Do not hire her unless you want to lose. She can barely speak English and was not prepared for my case on my court date.

Horrible representation from Athina Powers. Initially, she'll say the good things you want to hear, but after she takes your money, no more progress! She's not honest about billing you for services rendered. When I questioned to clarify a payment I made that was not applied/recorded, she threatened to abandon me and she did few days prior to my hearing. She made excuses and lied! She's all about the money, no ethics whatsoever.

I consulted with Athina regarding a child custody case, she talked a good game so I retained Athina. I requested to file an RFO on 7/27/22. Athina's daughter, Theodora wrote my declaration. I requested to write my own but was pressured by the office to let them write it. After reviewing the declaration, I strongly disagreed with the approach, the declaration was littered with exaggerations and accusations. I addressed my concerns about the declaration to Athina. Athina's response was "Do you know who worked on your declaration, my daughter wrote it. Do you know where my daughter went to school, she went to Harvard (not law school, a BS in psychology). Being a graduate of Harvard, there were a lot of grammatical errors. Rather than listening to the client, who Athina works for, Athina wanted to use her daughter's declaration. I assume this is only because her daughter wrote it. Athina argued that this type of declaration is what my case needed. My gut told me otherwise, but I am not a lawyer so I trusted Athina. I told Athina to go ahead and move forward on 8/1/22. That was the last conversation I had with Athina, she pretty much disappeared after 8/1. I kept reaching out to check the status. I continued asking when can we file. Athina and the office had many excuses "she'll work on it over the weekend", "she's working on points of authority" "she's out of town in hearings". Finally, I gave the office a deadline of 8/19/22. As of today, 8/19, I fired Athina. Athina and her office should be honest. If they are not capable of bringing on new clients or cannot meet deadlines then she should tell her clients so upfront. Not make excuses, add more stress to her clients and ultimately, not deliver. While I was in Athina's office picking up my file, she tried to get an extra $1000 for work that was already billed to my retainer. Also, I overheard another client calling in to check the status of her case. The client stated she wrote an email and did not hear back. The paralegal told the client on the phone "Ms Powers is in court, she will get back to you when she gets to the office". Athina was not in court, she was sitting there in the office, ordering furniture over the phone. Athina was not working on anyone's case. I read another google review of Athina Powers, and that review told a similar story. Action with the BAR association needs to be taken against Athina. IN RESPONSE TO ATHINA POWERS: Her response to waive my attorney / client privileges is just an excuse not to provide a reason as to why she could not complete the work I paid for in advance, in a timely manner. The statements that she is denying are true. I have emails that prove so.My emails show it took days to get a response on status updates and that she states "I'm out of town in hearings" and "adding points of authority" (which were not in my file when I picked it up) Additionally, Athina's office told me I had to sign a substitution of attorney in order to pick up my file. According to the CA state bar website, what she did is completely unethical. A client does not have to sign anything to pick up their file. The client's file is owed to the client in full. They cannot be charged for "copies" or completing the file. Athina is digging herself deeper rather than just being honest and refunding me as she publicly stated. Athina is contacting the review sites, trying to get my reviews pulled down. When Athina responded to my concerns about the declaration, stating "My daughter wrote the declaration, and she went to Harvard" my gut told me something was off. I have consulted with several attorney's regarding my case and not one of them agreed with Athina's approach. I am so grateful that Athina failed to complete the work. I feel she would have cost me my case! Athina publicly stated she will refund me. She was very careful with her words, so I doubt I will see anything. I will update if so.

Her last name is powers for a reason, she helped me every step of the way. Not only did she help me win my case, she helped me gain confidence. She was beyond helpful, encouraging, and over all an amazing lawyer. I highly recommend!!

Watching as she places children back into the mercy of abusing parent. Taking no consideration of the child of the abusing parent as long as her money is coming from them. You shouldn’t be in your field if children aren’t in your best interest.
