I approached Phil regarding my equal pay and discrimination case against a large corporation, after I had a prior conversation with another firm. Because of that, I had a general idea of what were the possible legal venues available in my situation. Phil laid out similar options. Unlike the other firm, I felt that Phil was more confident and had more experience in dealing with large corporations that have a very robust legal team and a strong process to deny any wrong doing. Phil was very professional (a bit cold), but I felt it was appropriate for his role. I felt that I had a very strong case and plenty of supporting documentation. After listening attentively to my situation, Phil put a very detailed demand letter together, laying out the events and including eloquently the laws governing the situation. After a lengthy process, while the company investigated the events, they came back with a very low-ball settlement offer. Phil was instrumental in negotiating a deal and listening to my concerns. It is unfortunate that it is legal for companies to force employees into Arbitration Agreements as a condition of employment and basically force employees into forfeiting their legal rights. Because of that, I don’t feel that the law was enforced, however I do feel that Phil did a good job of listening to my concerns (while keeping an impartial stance) and he did a good job representing me and negotiating in my behalf. While the desired outcome for me would have been fairness and change in the illegal practices displayed by some of the leaders of the corporation, a settlement was reached. As everyone treated unfairly knows, money does not substitute fairness, but it’s what the corporations prefer to offer, instead of accepting responsibility and implementing change.

Of course one only needs an employment attorney when something bad has happened. I went home and googled employment attorneys. I have known Andrew Dansicker for several years and while I knew he was an attorney, I did not know his specialty. When Andrew’s name came up in my google search, I pulled up his web site. The kindness and warm feeling at a very dark time for me was all I needed to send in a request for a free consultation. I hired Mr Zuckerman to pursue an action against a former employer that was attempting to use deceit in its pursuit of federal contracts, and which fired me for not participating in its schemes. Jason was not just very responsive, he was also engaging, spending a good deal of time and effort with me on the phone and by email learning the ins and outs of the case, discussing strategy, laying out alternatives, anticipating counter-arguments, etc, all with the highest integrity. In the end, Jason was able to negotiate a substantial settlement for me, and I believe the company learned not to fire employees for failing to participate in lying to the government. After understanding my situation, Mark got into several negotiations with my former employer. He's very conscientious and cares about my benefits. It was a difficult negotiation process because my former employer was not cooperative. Mark gave the other side's lawyer our best reasoning and what normal companies would do for my situation, but my former employer let their ego get in the way, instead of doing the right thing to investigate, they terminate the good person and wanted to pay a small fee to let me go away quietly. Knowing it has been a retaliation I consulted 4 attorneys in New Hampshire, including some well known ones. They were all unwilling to represent me, but Mark stood up after hearing my story and knew I could get better than what was offered. Through his work in the end I gained a substantial amount extra pay.

Akhavan and associates made my already difficult situation very easy to manage. From the first call until the check arrived in my hand this law firm was great. I ALWAYS received a call back promptly and I was always kept well informed in all the stages of my dispute. I needed to consult with an attorney regarding a situation I was having with my work: I was returning to work after having been on disability leave for about five months. I was very concerned about my company’s inquiries and documentation requirements for my return to work because I had good reason to believe they were infringing on my right to privacy of my Protected Health Information as a currently disabled person and also that they were discriminating against me. It was so incredibly hard to find an attorney who was willing to take my case and consult with me. I called around for many hours with zero luck. And then I found Richard!! He was willing to help me and I was so relieved to finally have found someone who will be on my side. He had excellent suggestions and advice, and reminded me of the privacy and confidentiality I have with him via attorney-client privilege. I felt safe discussing very sensitive matters with him and he really went above and beyond in helping me. It was obvious to me that he is very knowledgeable about employment law. He presented multiple scenarios to me of how my situation might play out and that is why I felt more than prepared when I had to speak with HR again. I am happy to say I am back at work now with all HR and privacy matters having been resolved. If I ever need legal advice on a future employment situation, I know I will be calling Richard again. He was also always prompt at responding to my emails, which was great, because I had certain deadlines to make in regards to my return to work. I cannot thank you enough, Richard.

If filing bankruptcy I do NOT recommend. I came here based off mostly good reviews and looked past the bad ones that seem to be accurate. The beginning was great everyone responded and was amazing. Before they even filed I had issues with being asked for the same documents I had sent several times and I had issues getting any updates or responses to anything. The paralegal Jay not very friendly especially when he thinks you’ve over stepped. Very rude and when I asked for an update at one point was told “ well I’m tired of getting punched in the dick hole with all these bankruptcy cases I have to review” nice way to speak to a client. We were made to feel as if we shouldn’t even be trying to file because of the money made previously. From that point I should have gotten my money back but was already far in the process. Now it’s been filed and confirmed and I have been trying to get answers to questions since the end of October. I’ve sent several emails and made several calls and left messages with NO response. Mr. Woods himself is super nice and a great guy however the way things are handled by his staff is the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Jocelyn and Linsey were the key players in helping complete my case when I was rear-ended. I bet you never thought "decent human being" and lawyer could reside in the same person, but JPI seems to have found them! I temped for them as a legal assistant in early 1998. I wasn't a regular employee or a client (well, we'll get to that), yet I was always treated like I was one of the gang. I was included in their Friday night outings after work, and spoken to like an equal. Mr. Pass, for being a name partner, is so down-to-earth - I've worked in D.C. law firms with junior associates who treated me with less respect - and I had more seniority than them! Despite working hard, I had a big drop in income from what I had been used to and needed, so JPI helped me file for bankruptcy and even represented me - and they didn't ask for a dime over the filing fees. All Mr. Pass wanted was to see me get to a better place in life. We stayed in touch as I left Pennsylvania to make that happen. Nearly 25 years later, as I write this, I can still call and ask his advice and chat with him, if he's not busy. How many people do you meet in a lifetime who are genuinely good people, who are good at what they do? How many of those people are lawyers? I mean, I can tell stories about lawyers I've worked with and how mercenary they are even in their private lives. The profession seems to attract that type. The law firm of JPI turns the idea of the stereotypical lawyer on its head. They're good people out to do good. It's like they never lost the idealism that drove them to go to law school. This should be the ideal boutique law firm.
