If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I'm very happy with all the hard work attorney Joey-lynn and attorney Christie have done for me, and I appreciate it so much. I would say they were successful and followed through with what they promised. I had a very complicated case and in the end they did everything to help me. I would highly recommend this law office.

My wife and I have been working with her oldest brother (85 yrs old) to help him with a Will and a Living Trust. For the past 3 years we have traveled from our home in Durand Mi. to San Diego to provide him with advice and provide any help he may need to get everything right. The more we worked the more complicated and confusing this procedure became, OMG were we Stumped. This year we decided we needed professional help. So, what do you do when your 2000 miles away and don't really know anybody in a big city like San Diego, GOOGLE IT! That's exactly what we did and came up with a bunch of names of attorneys that claim to be the best anywhere. We started making calls to see who we liked the best and would be able to take care of our issues. We left voice mails and asked to have someone contact us to set up a meeting. We encountered a few who were vague and after listening to what we needed really didn’t seem too interested. Then Jason, called us and we were so happy with his attitude and wiliness to complete the needed documents on a very short notice. Everyone in that firm seemed to want to help us get everything right, signed, and registered they even worked through the weekend. So, we could rest assured that we wouldn't be caught up in a nightmare with the probate courts. Thank you, Jason, and Ashley what a great feeling to know we made the right decision when we chose you

The team was amazing in helping us with our will and trust! They were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, supportive and patient with us as we figure out the best path forward to suit some of our very particular needs. It’s obviously not a fun or easy topic to discuss and they were so understanding of that giving us options and suggestions that could be relevant to us. And allowing us the time we needed to sort things out amongst our family. Sometimes we wouldn’t be able to resolve things easily so we would be at a standstill for a while between me and my husband but they were great about checking in regularly without creating any additional pressure. We also had some personal and particular road blocks that we come up against and Ashley was wonderful in giving us options and guidance around that. Both she and Jason were so kind and personable and professional. We had talked to several places before coming here and I’m so glad we did!

Mazzu Law was the first firm that took me seriously. Listend to my story. Worked diligently, kept me informed, and got a settlement for me. If I ever have to go through this again. I would come back to this firm first. Treated me with kindness, respect, and honesty. Gave me options and never felt like I was lost. I was informed all the way through and was carefully explained all the steps we took together. It is a very professional and they prove productive services. Of your looking for a great firm look no further. This is one of the greats.

Sean O Hara has no business in law, came off nice, seemingly, except he contradicted himself several times. Claiming he never heard from the company, but knew where they sent my w-2…Did nothing for nine months and when I gave him crucial information he tried to get money, completely unaware that I had another attorney related to this case. His terrible work caused me to go through their employees and that’s a no for me dog, all white men. Fired and replaced. Don’t waste your time, not my first rodeo, but apparently his. Mind you the case was easy, pictures, text messages and he blew it, lazy, lazy, lazy. Easily the most important client you’ll ever have too.

I was going through a very difficult time with my former employer which was not only affecting myself but family as well. I was looking for variety of places to help and no one wanted to take my case. I stumbled upon Vincent Calderone’s law firm and the moment I spoke to him he took my case. The great thing is he assured me that I had a strong case and that we would win and that’s what happened we won the case. I’m eternally grateful for what him and his team has accomplished. His communication is a 10 and if your complaint is legit you better believe Calderone law firm will do everything in there strength to fight for you. Hopefully I never go through the situation I had before again, but if I do they will be the ones I call for help. It gives me peace knowing that I have a good lawyer with a proven track record. If you’re looking for a lawyer this is the one to come to they can be trusted 100% as long as your legit.

I met Bruce the day I got fired from my position as clinician at a drug treatment center. I was in the process of going on FMLA from my job due to the loss of my son. At that time myself and my coworker who had the same duties were out on performance plans. Due to our high caseload fulfilling the plan was impossible, so I decided I needed to take a step back and go out for a while. I told my supervisor at supervision that I was going out on a Wednesday and on that following Friday I was fired and she used the plan as an excuse. I met Bruce at an event that Friday night and told him what transpired. He contacted me on Monday and took my case. I was fired in May and received compensation by August. Bruce was very available for any questions or concerns about the process. I have recommended him to other friends that are dealing with some of the same issues and have had nothing, but positive feedback from them. I highly recommend his service to anyone dealing with an employment issue. Thank you.

I paid him $5000. Once he received the money he was MIA more often than not. His receptionist gave one excuse after another and would tell me that I had exceeded "talk time" provided by the retainer although my records indicated otherwise. On the few occasions that I was able to speak with him he claimed he had Covid or RSV. I later heard this was one of his standard excuses.

On August 27th at 2:00 PM EST, I called your office seeking legal advice and assistance. Unfortunately, I encountered an individual who displayed an unprofessional and discourteous attitude. When I initially explained my situation, she abruptly informed me that your office does not handle such matters and hung up without allowing me to ask any further questions. I called back to inquire about the specific cases your office does handle, as I believe my civil rights have been violated. However, before I could fully articulate my question, she interrupted, stating, "I said we don’t handle this, and I said have a great day," and then hung up on me once again. Frustrated by this lack of assistance, I called a third time to request to speak with a supervisor. On two separate occasions, she answered the phone only to immediately hang up. When she finally responded, she simply said, "Please stop calling." I would like to bring this matter to the attention of her supervisor, as this behavior reflects a lack of customer service skills and professionalism. It is disheartening to encounter such a response, especially when reaching out for help in a difficult situation. Individuals who prioritize dismissing potential clients over offering assistance should not be in positions where they interact with the public. As a college student in need of legal help, I expected better treatment. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and that appropriate steps are taken to ensure others do not experience the same level of disregard.

I first approached Haeggquist & Eck with my very complicated employment situation after being impressed by their defense of plaintiffs against Trump University. Upon evaluating the merits of my case, I was very fortunate that Alreen Haeggquist agreed to represent me. During each step of the lengthy process that ensued, Alreen and Jenna Rangel were my tireless advocates. They were extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of employment law; astonishing in their ability to master the immense amount of evidence in my case; and strategic in handling its myriad complexities. Importantly, Alreen and Jenna were always tough-minded, yet supportive and empathetic towards me. They made me feel that we were in this fight together and their convictions never wavered. I felt their strength all along, which remains a lasting bond. I give my strongest endorsement to the Haeggquist & Eck law firm where you will find professionalism, legal mastery, tenacity, responsiveness, empathy and strength among everyone on its team. You couldn't do better than having a powerful, skillful, professional and empathetic advocate like Alreen Haeggquist.

I've never won anything from a radio station and I had been navigating a rough patch in life. One day while Dashing I was listening to Majic and heard that Amy was giving away money for the new year. I'm like could it be a sign? I went ahead and explained what I could do with money like they asked and gave it to God. I was leaving an interview from getting a new job and moments later got the call that I won!!!! It still doesn't seem real to me. I'm very thankful for Amy and whenever it's time to get the prize I hope that I can thank you in person. Well, I was very happy about the prize. But, now I feel like I haven't won anything and that I'm hassling people about something that they said they chose me for. Nobody has contacted me to tell me the next steps. The initial call and the video went well, but, now I'm getting silence. It's been 5 days so I guess I'll just wait. I got really excited because I really did need the money and I just knew that this was from God. I still had to rob Peter to pay Paul. If God is willing hopefully I hear something soon.

Based on my concerns with the curriculum and services my son received through the public school district, I contacted The Education Lawyers. My son's IEP did not appropriately reflect his needs with regression periods due to COVID-19 and remote learning. Mr. Jacobson walked me through every step of the way, going above and beyond advocating for our family. While the process took some time, Mr. Jacobson pushed to get the best outcome in compensatory education funds for my son. I'd highly recommend Jacobson and John to any family seeking legal special education representation.

We had to hire counsel to pursue correction of numerous USERRA errors with husband’s federal retirement, but finding a lawyer who was willing to work hourly against the federal government was not easy! Pines was the only agency with the willingness and immediate availability to work with us. The attorney assigned (M. Kleinman) has been knowledgeable, accessible, and PATIENT. We buried him under a mountain of documents and regulations, but he was very skillful at knowing which pieces were most relevant to the case, keeping us focused on the big picture. Very grateful, and highly recommend!

Let me first say that Mr. Lopez treated my case as if it were his own personal fight. He was super attentive to my concerns and diligent about resolving them. Mr. Lopez's team was fully involved throughout the entire ordeal. His knowledge concerning family law is impressive and I never felt alone even when things were kind of shaky. I worked with Goldsmith & Ogrodowski, LLC. for a few years. Even after a few years, I had to go check and make sure I had the name of their Law Firm correct. I know them by their first names, Fred, Rich and Heather. My 5 year nightmare started while working on a towboat as a deckhand, I was severely injured. After surgery and about 6 months, I tried going back to work. I didn't like where things were headed. I just wasn't able to do the same work as before. I still had so many issues. At the time, I had never had to call an attorney. I didn't know which way to go. It took a lot of time and thought before I finally made that decision. I now know that it was the right decision. My case was very complicated and took many years. Fred was my attorney, He worked tirelessly on my case. It felt as if I was his only client. It also felt like I was a part of his family. They even treated my fiancée and kids like family. I've had Fred call me at 8-9 p.m. and he was still working on my case. I could call or text any time with questions or concerns and he always responded quickly. It was never an issue. The amount of experience in this firm is amazing. Fred and Rich are the best at what they do. Very knowledgeable. This injury changed my life, forever. Fred understood that. I had hundreds of doctors appointments, a couple thousands pages of medical records. Fred knew every single detail. He was able to accurately answer any question asked over a long period of time and a period of time where things changed. You are not a number here, Fred truly cares. He takes your case and your future afterwards very serious. If you find yourself in a position needing an attorney, call, ask questions, do your due diligence, you won’t be disappointed. You will get what you deserve. The only thing I wish I could change is…..I wish I would have called G&O sooner. Thank you Fred, Rich and Heather. Thanks for everything you guys have done. I’ve just never met anyone that truly cares as much as you guys do. Thank you!!!

Fred and co. helped my mother first, then my brother and I as co-executors, hold a large company responsible for damages to our family-built riverside property. Fred extended absolute professionalism in all endeavors relating to our situation. He was attentive, prompt and most of all, completely competent in every action executed. On a personal note, Fred made to hour+ trip to pay his respects at my mom's funeral. For this I'm eternally grateful. Highly recommended.

I have spent months trying to understand my rights. I have contacted the EEOC, the ADA, the Job Accommodation Network, the EDD, and the CRD. All of these organizations send me back to one another. None have been able to answer my questions. Oleg was able to answer questions. He turned a 3 month project, into a 40 min conversation. I recommend contacting Le Clerc law for any questions you have about your rights. You can reach out to them on their website. Submit a form. They will respond to you. I received a response the same day I submitted my request.

Brett Kaplan and Caroline Miller are the best.  I came from another law firm because my lawyer wasn't giving me the service I deserved.  Mr. Kaplan told my story to the EEOC in a way that described my experience as it happened to me.  We worked together as a team and he told a compelling narrative that I know will shake my former employer to the core.  This firm is diligent, responsive, and will serve as your voice to the courts.  I'm very pleased - and certainly happy to leave my former lawyer behind!

I consulted with Abe and Derek about a discrimination and tortious interference case in December 2018. They provided very helpful insight and advice. They listened carefully and treated me with care and respect. (Thank you!) They were willing to take on the case on a contingency basis, and believed they could reach a successful settlement. However in case a lawsuit would be needed, that would have to be filed in the state where the offense took place, hence I needed to look for attorneys based there. It was very nice of Derek and Abe to offer this advice, and I am very grateful to them for the kindness they showed that day. I'd recommend them to anyone.

What a Discrimination Lawyer Can Do for You

A discrimination lawyer specializes in handling cases where individuals or groups face unfair treatment based on protected characteristics, such as race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. These lawyers assist clients in filing discrimination claims, representing them in legal proceedings, and ensuring that their rights under federal, state, and local laws are upheld. Discrimination cases may arise in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, or other settings.

Whether you’ve been discriminated against at work, denied housing, or treated unfairly in other areas of life, a discrimination lawyer can help you navigate the legal process and seek compensation or corrective action.

When Should I Hire a Discrimination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a discrimination lawyer in several situations where unfair treatment occurs based on protected characteristics. Common scenarios include:

  • Employment Discrimination:
    • Workplace discrimination: If you’ve been treated unfairly at work because of your race, gender, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, or another protected status, a lawyer can help you file a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or a similar state agency.
    • Wrongful termination: If you were fired due to discrimination or retaliation for reporting discriminatory behavior, a lawyer can assist with filing a lawsuit and seeking compensation for lost wages, emotional distress, and other damages.
    • Failure to promote: If you’ve been denied a promotion or opportunities due to discriminatory practices, a lawyer can investigate the claim and represent you in legal actions against your employer.
    • Harassment: If you’ve experienced workplace harassment, such as sexual harassment or a hostile work environment based on your race, gender, or other characteristics, a lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.
  • Housing Discrimination:
    • Denial of housing: If you’ve been denied housing due to your race, disability, family status, or other protected factors, a lawyer can help you file a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or sue the landlord or property manager for violating the Fair Housing Act.
    • Unfair rental practices: If a landlord or property manager treats you unfairly based on discriminatory factors (e.g., refusing reasonable accommodations for a disability), a lawyer can help you enforce your rights.
  • Education Discrimination:
    • Discrimination in schools: If you or your child has faced discrimination in an educational setting based on race, disability, gender, or religion, a lawyer can help you file complaints under laws like Title VI, Title IX, or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Public Accommodations:
    • Denial of services: If a business or public service has discriminated against you based on race, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics, a lawyer can assist you in filing a complaint or lawsuit under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or other anti-discrimination laws.

Hiring a discrimination lawyer early can help protect your rights and ensure that your claim is filed within legal deadlines.

What Does a Discrimination Lawyer Do?

A discrimination lawyer provides a range of legal services to help individuals and groups fight against discriminatory practices. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing discrimination claims: A lawyer can help you file a complaint with government agencies, such as the EEOC, HUD, or your state’s human rights commission. They ensure that your claim is properly documented and filed within required time limits.
  • Investigating discrimination claims: Discrimination lawyers gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review documents to build a strong case for proving discriminatory practices.
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, a lawyer can negotiate a settlement with the employer, landlord, or other party involved in the discrimination case, seeking compensation or corrective action without going to trial.
  • Representing clients in court: If your case goes to court, a lawyer will represent you during hearings, present evidence, and argue your case before a judge or jury.
  • Handling retaliation claims: If you face retaliation for filing a discrimination complaint or reporting discriminatory practices, a lawyer can help you pursue a retaliation claim.
  • Advising on legal rights: A discrimination lawyer explains your legal rights under federal and state anti-discrimination laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the ADA, the Fair Housing Act, and others.

How Are Discrimination Lawyers Paid?

Discrimination lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the expected duration of the legal process. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many discrimination lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. Their fee is usually a percentage of the settlement or court award, typically ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that don’t involve a contingency fee arrangement, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates for discrimination lawyers generally range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler legal tasks, such as drafting a discrimination complaint or providing legal advice, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Pro bono or reduced fees: Some discrimination lawyers offer pro bono (free) or reduced-fee services, especially in cases involving low-income clients or significant civil rights issues.

It’s important to discuss fee arrangements during your initial consultation to ensure that you understand the total cost of legal services and how payment will be handled.

How Much Does a Discrimination Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a discrimination lawyer depends on factors like the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the potential for a settlement or trial. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, their fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win a settlement of $50,000 and the lawyer’s fee is 30%, they would receive $15,000, and you would keep the remaining $35,000.
  • Hourly rates: Discrimination lawyers who charge by the hour typically bill between $200 and $600 per hour. For example, a case that takes 20 hours of legal work at $300 per hour would cost $6,000 in legal fees.
  • Flat fees: Some legal services, such as filing a discrimination complaint or providing a legal consultation, may be available for a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale fees: In some cases, particularly for low-income individuals, lawyers may offer reduced fees or work pro bono.

Always ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation, and clarify whether the lawyer offers flexible payment options.

Top Questions to Ask a Discrimination Lawyer

Before hiring a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with discrimination cases?
Ensure that the lawyer has handled discrimination cases similar to yours, whether it involves employment, housing, or public accommodation discrimination.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs.
  3. What are my chances of success?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and the likelihood of success.
  4. How long will the process take?
Discrimination cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take, from filing a complaint to reaching a settlement or going to trial.
  5. Will I need to go to court?
Ask whether your case is likely to settle out of court or if a trial may be necessary. If a trial is possible, ask what steps the lawyer will take to prepare.
  6. What damages or remedies can I seek?
Ask about the types of compensation or corrective action you can pursue, such as back pay, emotional distress damages, job reinstatement, or policy changes.
  7. What steps should I take to protect my rights?
Ask for advice on how to document evidence, handle workplace or housing interactions, and avoid retaliation while your case is pending.

How to Check the Credibility of a Discrimination Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable discrimination lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their bar status: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and in good standing with the state bar association. You can check this on your state bar’s website.
  • Look for discrimination case experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in employment law, civil rights, or discrimination cases and have successfully handled similar cases in the past.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on discrimination matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in civil rights organizations or employment law associations, such as the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed account of the discrimination: Provide a clear description of the discriminatory actions, including dates, locations, and individuals involved. Document specific incidents and any witnesses who can support your claim.
  • Workplace or housing records: Bring copies of relevant employment or housing documents, such as job performance evaluations, rental agreements, emails, or written correspondence related to the discrimination.
  • Company or organization policies: If the discrimination occurred in the workplace or housing, bring copies of company policies, employee handbooks, or housing agreements that outline anti-discrimination policies.
  • Evidence of damages: Provide evidence of any financial losses, such as lost wages, job termination, or increased rent, as well as emotional or psychological distress caused by the discrimination.
  • Previous complaints or actions: If you’ve filed previous complaints or taken any action related to the discrimination, such as reporting the issue to HR or filing a complaint with a government agency, bring copies of those documents.
  • Questions about the process: Prepare a list of questions about your legal options, potential outcomes, and the lawyer’s approach to handling your case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice for pursuing your discrimination claim.
