I should have written this review earlier, but today couldn't be a more appropriate day because today is the 1 year anniversary that the Salines-Mondello Law Firm helped me win sole guardianship of my parents! They helped me protect my parents from my siblings, who were taking advantage of them! I can't say enough good things about this law firm, Lisa Salines-Mondello, everyone that works there, and especially Attorney Brenna Ragghianti! I've learned thru this that, sadly, children taking advantage of their parents isn't that unusual. Not only was I dealing with trying to protect my parents, but to top if off I was being maliciously harassed by my siblings and their significant others! Attorney Ragghianti went above and beyond the calling of attorney duties during this tumultuous time!! I have 100% confidence in her and this law firm!! If you need help, reach out to them, and be certain that you have the BEST helping protect you and the ones that you love!!!

There are some who think that they may not be able to afford legal services, but I am proof that you cannot afford to be without them. Brenna Ragghianti and Lisa Rheuby were there every step of the way during a very difficult time in my life. If you want the best legal services to settle estate matters, then look no further. I will be using them in the future for other matters and have 1000% confidence that the Salines-Mondello Law Firm will deliver the highest level of sound legal advice available.

We recently had a terrific experience working with the team at Salines-Mondello resulting in full Estate Planning as well as a successful outcome for elder-care planning. There were many moving parts, including inter- state logistics and personal considerations that required a strategic and systematic approach to solving. Everything was handled with utmost expertise, professionalism and kindness. We deeply appreciate LIsa Mondello's clear vision & leadership along with the hard work & commitment of Aimee, Tiffany, William, Tasia, Elaine and the rest of the excellent team. We highly recommend the firm and are forever grateful for the guidance & support they provided to our family.

I’ve read the response Annabel or whomever had made. I gave a 1 star due to me and my moms feeling of being defrauded to gain money from a property you didn’t have the right to take money from and only until you forced me to move by selling the property because you didn’t confront the signers of your contract you made from the breadwinner who had control of the assets in question before calling me and offering to buy a property for me and put the deed without any cash on hand into a irrevocable trust. He then put my mom through hell. And has since left the family and his responsibilities. You then changed the premise by forcing a sale instead of making sure the grantors paid their property tax as per NY state law. i was left completely blindsided by the rules and did not know enough then to make a good judgement nor should i have been put in that position. Now that property has since doubled in value, and i have moved to a place comfortable for me with money that belonged to me to repurchase another property which now i own and have the deed to. I was not responsible to pay the property taxes on the irrevocable trust. I feel completely taken advantage of and robbed a large portion of my inheritance. Even tho I thanked you when i didn’t know what was going on at the time…i the beneficiary paid you from my inheritance money when i didn’t make any contracts or agreements with you i am simply the beneficiary. I now fully own my property here in maine i was dragged all over creation and stolen from from you collecting your fees from the trust verses peter cannova. I feel it is your duty to confront peter and be refunded the money due to me that belongs to me.

I've worked with the team at Legacy Elder Law Center for about a year now and they've been simply amazing partners. It's abundantly clear that they care about each and every person that calls. Their reputation is built on helping, caring, and being a true advocate for families throughout the planning process. I highly recommend that anyone give them a call and see if they would be a good fit. If not, they'll help you find someone who is.

This team has done nothing but work to help me. They have been confidantes, therapists, and obviously legal experts. They have taken a potentially disastrous situation and turned it around in a flash and explained all of my options at each stage of the process. I could not be happier with their work. We're not done yet and there are still some hurdles to jump but without them I really would be up the creek without a paddle. Thank you Leann, Rachael, Eliz, Rory and the rest for your patience, expertise, and kindness. Worth every penny.

We have used Hemness Faller a couple of times throughout the years and they have always provided excellent results for us. Hemness Faller was recommended to us by a friend who had been in similar situations with an aging parent. Danielle provided a plan to help us take care of my dad’s physical and financial needs. Also as parents we needed to make sure our children would be looked after by family if anything happened to us. Our children are now grown and out on their own so we returned to Hemness Faller to update all of our legal papers. We asked a lot of questions and they took the time to answer and advise us about each document. It can be a stressful process but we had a lot of laughs with Danielle as we worked through the details of updating our wills, trusts & poa’s. I would recommend Hemness Faller to anyone needing legal help for an aging parent and anyone who needs reassurance that their kids will be taken care if something goes wrong.

I would highly recommend Joshua!!! We had to recently move my mother into an adult family care home and quickly realized the shock of the cost and everything that comes with it. We were referred to Joshua for elder care advice and decided within minutes that he was the best to assist us with the process. He is very down to earth and quick/easy to communicate with (he responded to emails while he was on a 2 week vacation) but also direct and to the point, which is what we needed during this process. The last 4 months have been quite a whirlwind of emotions, documents, trusting the process and it all happening so quickly but we were confident in Joshua.

I must say the representative that called me was very nice and he made me feel comfortable with the whole process and explained in detail how everything went from here. There's no amount of money that could buy out the suffering with headache's and everything else that goes along with the tumor, but the people (same people who made some COVID injections) (Pfizer) let millions of women get the Depo- Provera shot for over a decade while neglecting to label the side affect that it could cause brain tumors. When I was going through my divorce this past year, Tawyna was the right person to represent me. She was all business and fought for me like no lawyer I have ever had. If you need a strong lawyer, that has your back, and always thinking about you and your needs, she is the lawyer you for you.She saves me lots of money and was always very professional and matter of fact. The billing retainer was very reasonable in which my ex spouse spent three times more than my case. I didn’t have to be pay my ex spouse attorney fees, which saved me tons of money. Tawyna is the lawyer you need and would be foolish to go with someone else. Will go to battle with her again in the future. Her legal team is amazing and the model of professionalism. If you need a lawyer, better call Tawyna!

I was referred to Tawnya by The Alexandria Bar Association (ACBA) Lawyer Referral Service, for my uncontested divorce. I arrived at the office for my consultation appointment. The receptionist (a gentleman, didn't catch his name) didn't tell Tawnya that I arrived. 10 minutes later, she came out, and was surprised to see me. Unfortunate, but fine. Now we can begin. We get to her office, and the conversation went thus: What's your situation? I'm getting a divorce How long were you married? 6 years I sent you paperwork, you didn't complete it. Yes I did, I emailed it back to you. Do you have a signed settlement agreement? No, she won't sign. Did you send that to me? Yes, in the same email. Oh! There it is. I was beyond frustrated. I booked a 30 minute appointment, and the majority of it was eaten answering questions that I had already provided answers and documentation for when she requested it 4 days prior. I was very thorough, to avoid this exact scenario. I wanted this meeting to be productive. It wasn't. She talked me through the process, answered a few specific questions I had brought with me, but ultimately, nothing I couldn't have found online. Very disappointing experience.

I recently did some Estate planning with the Cox Law Group. I could not be more pleased with the results. While I was doing my research, Cynthia Cox took the time to fully explain the strategies we would be implementing. She laid everything out in an email and was available by phone to fully explain every detail and answer my many questions. Once I retained the Cox Law firm I worked with Cynthia and her associate Dawn Hartman. Dawn was great. She was knowledgeable, efficient and responsive. We got the job done and I could not be happier with the results. I would highly recommend this firm.

Our family has entrusted the Danica Little Law firm for several years. They have created two trusts and two wills and provided essential legal advice. On our last visit, both Danica and her assistant, Sharmaine Huggins, were most helpful in meeting our estate planning needs. We would definitely recommend this law firm.

We originally hired Ms. Little’s firm to assist with decisions and then writing our will. When we had some life changing events, we returned for advice again…….Ms. Little and her firm are and were extremely knowledgeable about our needs and kept us on tract with possibilities of which we were unaware. My husband is a 100% disabled veteran and Ms Little, of course, incorporated this information into the decisions made for our estate. We have been and still are excited to have Ms Little and her firm taking care of all our estate planning. None better……..

Ten years ago when my charming Japanese mother was merely 75 and enjoying retirement, I would never imagined the family we are today. I doubt now the worthy of saving too much money your lifetime because doing so may be the dragon that eats you. Since, I’ve learned and witnessed and heard of through my associations with caregivers, this is all too common. Be careful what you wish for. I cannot have chosen a better attorney for my guardianship case. I also can’t help but think Ryan Moe worked this case because he was sent out from heaven to me and Mom. He was supposed to and for good reason. The man is made from fine cloth and don’t judge him for his seriousness or his disappearing or his directness - he’s working it all out upstairs, metaphysically speaking - he’s got a natural clear intuit so keep things easy on yourself and answer the questions concisely. Ryan is remarkably intelligent and he imagines strategies and it’s fascinating to watch him dance with the pieces and “the bad guys”. Sorry! Had to. He’s my 2022 Super Hero!!!! Thank you Universe! I am so grateful to him and Elizabeth for taking us in! While I believe justice and fairness are human constructs and we should not hold tight to the ideas of such - Ryan Moe will make you believe they are real if only a little while. And I am moved still by the remarkable beauty of Gods work and the resulting outcome of our guardianship case. It was a win for my funny goofy 85 yo mother. Who loves Bingo. “We get to play again now Mom!” .

When my father passed away and it was clear that there were going to be disputes with my sibling I started contacting lawyers. The first 3 lawyers I contacted all told me to go to the state and file with Adult Protective Services. I didn't feel this was the way to go. I got on the internet and started researching lawyers with Elder law experience and found Mr. Ryan Moe. I contacted his office and went to see him a few days later. I liked him immediately and knew he was very knowledgeable about Elder law. When I had my first consultation with him about my mom's diminished capacity he set up a doctor's appointment so my mother could be checked by a professional. She was indeed found to have diminished capacity that no one else in the family wanted to admit to. I also advised him that my sibling was taking all kinds of money and wanted to see if he could get it stopped. Throughout the whole process I knew Mr. Moe was the best lawyer for the job. He was laid back but aggressive when needed to be. He put me at ease right away and I knew he had my back at all times. I very much respect and would recommend Mr. Moe to anyone having problems with siblings and disputes. He was easy to talk to and listened and offered advice. If the need arises for more legal help I will definitely call Mr. Moe. Very easy to talk to and puts you at ease. He is a compassionate and caring individual.

When I met with Mr. Parker, he took the time to ask questions and listen in order to determine how to arrange my estate with the best interests of myself and my loved ones in mind. He made me feel at ease with personal decisions and family matters and had a calm way of explaining difficult concepts so that everyone understood and could make the right decisions. By the time the process was complete, everyone in my family felt the documents were created with compassion, fairness and clarity for everyone concerned. And as a single parent, I was also pleasantly surprised at how his costs compared to those of other law firms in town. Mr. Parker is a sole proprietor who works out of his home, so he is able to provide a high level of professional services at great prices. After doing more research into typical estate planning costs, I've come to believe that Mr. Parker provides the best value of professional estate planning services in town, so he is my first recommendation when anyone asks if I know of a good attorney for estate planning services.

Title: Concerns About Caprice Collins' Role as Special Co-Trustee My late grandfather was a client of Caprice Collins, and she named herself as the Special Co-Trustee in his trust. When serious issues of theft and mismanagement by the trustees arose, Ms. Collins failed to fulfill her fiduciary duties. Instead, she submitted a notarized resignation, abandoning her responsibilities without appointing a successor as required by the trust. Caprice responded to me directly but did not post her reply publicly on Google. In her response, she attempted to justify her actions by stating her firm focuses on estate planning, not trust litigation. However, her role as Special Co-Trustee obligated her to act in the best interest of the trust, regardless of her firm’s stated focus. Resigning during a critical time for the trust was a breach of fiduciary responsibility. She is now attempting to have my review removed while refusing to address her breach of duty. Transparency and accountability are essential in estate planning. I encourage anyone considering her services to ask detailed questions about what happens if issues arise within a trust. See her response in the photos attached below

I want to preface this by stating that I was not personally a client of Caprice Collins. However, my late grandfather was, and she set up his trust, naming herself as the Special Co-Trustee. She also set up a trust for my parents and several other family members, consistently listing herself as the Special Trustee. While she charges extra for this service, my experience has shown that when the time comes for her to fulfill those duties, she does not deliver. In my grandfather’s case, serious problems arose with the trustees, including theft and mismanagement of trust assets. My mother, as a beneficiary, was directly impacted, and I had to step in as her attorney-in-fact to protect her interests. When we reached out to Ms. Collins to address these issues, she claimed she had not been “retained” to act. However, her role as the Special Co-Trustee did not require any additional “retention”—it was her fiduciary duty to address these matters. Instead of fulfilling her responsibilities, she resigned from her position, violated the trust by failing to appoint a new Special Trustee as required, and abandoned her duties entirely. This left the beneficiaries to deal with the fallout on their own. I have since been advised by other attorneys, including former members of her staff, that Ms. Collins is primarily a salesperson who focuses on drafting trusts but lacks the knowledge or experience to handle disputes or problems when they inevitably arise. I’ve also been told she has never set foot inside a courtroom, which explains her inability to act when real issues occur. She overcharges clients for drafting trusts and making simple changes, but when challenges arise, she disappears. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against utilizing Ms. Collins’ services if you need someone reliable to handle trust-related disputes or fiduciary duties. While she may appear competent when drafting trusts, she has failed to demonstrate the responsibility, accountability, and expertise necessary to act in the best interests of the beneficiaries. If you are looking for someone who will truly stand by their word and fulfill their fiduciary obligations, Ms. Collins is not the right choice.

The Living Trust information and services presented were very informative. This information highlighted where my family is deficient in protecting our family assets. We truly believe anyone with any assets to protect should make an appointment for Collins Law Group Family Trust seminar.

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
