My divorce experience was a long, painful nightmare using two different attorneys. While I recognized the need for extra time due to the pandemic and court closures, my first attorney failed to respond to any type of communication. Phone calls were useless and it took me 5 email attempts to get even one response. My second attorney was more responsive to my communication, however, slow to make any moves. We ended up in court in front of a judge which was a stressful and unnecessary ending to an already irritating process. I swear my divorce could've been completed in 30 days had I have had a supportive team behind me.
Fast forward to the need to relocate out of state (like across the country out of state) with my two children and I knew I needed to find better representation. Someone who was truly prepared to fight for me as I knew it wouldn't be easy. John was recommended to me in the middle of my divorce by several people, but at that point it was too late in the case. I knew that he would be the person to turn to when it came time for this next fight because of the successful outcomes of the recommending parties.
John did not disappoint. His responses were prompt and full of useful information. He kept me informed of the process, deadlines and delays. He had a plan mapped out for me right away and made sure I understood what I needed to do in order to move the process along. He was familiar with the laws, gave me his expert opinion on what to do legally once I had moved out of state and helped me through a surprisingly quick and painless mediation process. I'm writing this after my cross country move that went off without a hitch truly thanks to John's expertise, professionalism and solid work ethic.
I would recommend him 1,000,000 times over to anyone who is looking for an attorney. I honestly don't think you can find anyone better.

If I had three words to describe John Haines, it would be professional, knowledgeable and blunt. Divorce is always a sticky situation, but John navigated it like it was child's play. He's been doing this for a long time and if you think the retainer is too much to pay, it isn't. He chews gum and shoots from the hip. This does not mean he's cocky. He's just confident and that's what you need in a lawyer. Just listen to him, do what he tells you to do and it will be all over before you know it. He really isn't one of these sleazeball lawyers who is looking to overbill for every e-mail or call. I saw my ex's financials and he got billed 3-5 times a month. I never got a bill until the very end. He's there if you need him, but check your problem at the door to make sure you really need him. Divorce is emotional. He's not Dr. Phil. He's there to get you out of the predicament you're in and if it goes to court, fight for you. I appreciated his demeanor and when you hire him, you will too.
The work was exceptional, the price was fair, the stories were hilarious and I'd give him and the boys in the office 5 stars any day of the week. Outstanding work!

I heard about Jed through a family friend who also used him as her divorce attorney. So I figured I would have a consultation with him. After our consultation, I was VERY satisfied and knew that I wanted to hire him. This was back in 2018. He required the retainer, which was expected, and used that retainer towards the expenses. He was very professional, listened to my needs, had my sons best interest in mind, and maintained his integrity throughout my entire case. Not only did he handle my divorce, custody, and parenting plan case, he also handled my personal injury case, got me the most that he could, and knowing full well that he would get his share, so he made sure after giving him what was owed, I still had more than enough to cover costs. I don’t like saying I have an attorney “in my back pocket”, but I enjoy having the relief of knowing I have an attorney or any legal matters. Jed comes HIGHLY recommended by me, and will be the only attorney I use.

I hired Ben for a very long child custody battle for my daughter after hearing great things about him from a close family friend attorney. Throughout the whole process from the paternity test to the parenting plan, Ben was always doing whatever he could to make sure my little girl would have her daddy in her life. Shallon worked my case for two+ years. She is reliable, smart, quick, detail oriented and organized. I couldn't have asked for a better advocate for myself. Going through a very complicated divorce with children, assets and with an ex that lies and tried misleading the court during several trials- his attorney encouraged shady behavior and Shallon caught everything. She knows the law like the back of her hand, knows the likely outcome and what to spend our time on. My scenario surfaced with the absolute best possible outcome and I know for a fact that wouldn't have happened without Shallon. I had Interviewed other attorneys but felt misunderstood and would have put me and my family in hardship had I gone those directions. Shallon is personable and was very timely at moving things along when I expressed concern for the oppositions slow pace. Her advice on every matter was on point. You will not regret hiring her. I had recently divorced and my daughter's custody arrangement was not going well. She was back and forth way too much and she wasn't happy. I wanted to go back to court for a better parenting plan but my original attorney was on a leave of absence. I spoke with several attorneys but each one of them told me "it was too soon" to go back to court. Emily took my case and in the mean time, my daughter was falling apart with the current plan. We went back to court and we are currently working on a new plan. Emily was a blessing to me and my daughter. I highly recommend her. She is a fighter and she has become a friend to us.

I worked with Charlie on two different matters, first a protective order and then later child custody. He was wonderful. He was very informative, and he has a compassionate demeanor and sense of humor that helped reduce the stress of court proceedings. Divorce was not something I wanted. Of course, nothing I ever hoped or planned for. I was hurt, sad and scared of what was to come. And now I had to take the huge task of finding the best divorce attorney in Williamson County. When it was time, I took the recommendation of meeting Will Holloway from one of my dearest friends. Thank goodness she was on point.
I was very direct and organized with Will and he never once let me down. His communication skills were impeccable and timely. His willingness to get what I wanted done in my time frame was met at every way. I never doubted any information or advice he gave me. I always felt he had my best interests at hand with the utmost sincerity and efficiency.
At our final meeting, after the divorce was finalized, Will gave me his final “talk” and it was what I describe as a “pep talk”. His words were kind and insightful. I have to admit there was a small part of me that was sad that I would no longer be meeting with Will again. I found his services to be extremely professional, helpful and most importantly, genuine.

I interviewed a total of five local attorneys in the Franklin area, but knew after my first meeting with Will, he would be the attorney to represent me. He will give you sound advice and offer a common-sense strategy to get you through the divorce while you’re in the maelstrom of emotions that can cloud your judgement. Will was fully engaged from the beginning to the end. In my particular case, there was an affair involved but instead of making that the central theme, Will directed my focus on the best outcome for my children and me. I never thought I'd need a divorce lawyer but when I found myself pregnant going through a divorce I knew I'd need one that would advocate for me and my baby boy. From the minute I met Phil Newman we just clicked. His warm, caring nature together with his no-nonsense, cut-to-the-chase way makes him a bulldog of a lawyer. In the end, the way he fights for what's best for the CHILD is what sets him apart. And he's had to put me in my place a few times, but I've always been better as a result.
Now having been divorced 8+ years and going through several post-divorce rounds of parenting plan changes, I can't recommend Phil and his team highly enough.
Especially Alisha Warner who is my other lawyer and who has walked with me as well through the past 8 years. She is an incredibly hard worker and has gut instincts that recently helped me settle a really hard situation in mediation.
I can't recommend the whole team at Puryear, Newman & Morton highly enough - they are ALL incredible to work with and ultimately fight for what's best for everyone in the long run.

Phil was highly recommended to me by a long-time friend who had recently gone through a divorce and was in a very similar situation to mine. I have two young boys and was the breadwinner in my household, which is very relevant because I had a hard time accepting the role reversal of my situation. I knew within 5 minutes of sitting down with Phil and his paralegal, Julie, that I didn’t need to look any further. Phil is a busy lawyer (which means he’s good lawyer) so he can be hard to pin down at times, BUT he was always there when I needed him – responding to texts and phone calls at night, early morning and over the weekend. He and Julie not only counseled me through the technical aspects of the divorce, but the emotional aspects as well. Phil would empathize with me and validate my feelings, but he also told me what I needed to hear even if it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. Thankfully, we were able to settle my divorce in mediation. Phil took time to explain the mediation process to me and ensure I was well prepped – both materially and emotionally. The mediation was 11 grueling hours . There was one point when we were negotiating alimony – a real sticking point for me – when Phil looked me straight in the eye and said, “Tracy, that’s a good deal. You need to take it.” I didn’t like it but I took it. No questions asked. And, this is representative of how my whole process went. Throughout one of the most difficult periods of my life when I was at my most vulnerable, Phil was my rock and my protector. I felt strong because I had Phil and Julie in my corner. On one hand, I’m grateful my divorce didn’t end up in court, but on the other hand, I would have loved to see him in action in that setting. He’s strong advocate, great listener and fierce negotiator, but best of all…he’s an overall wonderful human. I would recommend Phil over and over again.

Stuart exhibited in-depth knowledge of family law and the local legal scene. He was thorough and thoughtful in his brainstorming and recommendations. It is so difficult to find a trustworthy attorney. After meeting with several different ones, we were blessed to find Stuart. We hired him for a case of termination of parental rights and adoption of minors. It is needless to say the case resulted in our favor. There are two important sides of Stuart professionalism, on one hand there is the preparation, since the first meeting we realize he had an ample knowledge of the law, however what was more astonishing and made the difference, is the exceptional preparation he makes at every step of the case. I found Orion thru a friend and sat down with him in 2016,because I had a BM who was withholding parenting time and making tons of questionable decisions. Throughout the "battle" he was always there with good advice. We settled on a 50/50 parenting time plan in 2017 knowing we would be back in court soon. A few months later, just as he called it, we were back in court and got emergency custody. 6 months later I walked out of the hearing with full custody of my daughter, and she is safe now. I'm glad my little girl had Orion helping me fight for her, I couldn't have done it alone. When in doubt, listen to his advice, I'm glad I did. I was referred to Neil specifically because he is skilled in complex divorce litigation. My divorce case was lengthy, difficult, often frightening, and highly toxic. You don't want just any divorce attorney for such a case. Neil is tough when he needs to be, but in my case he also worked for the best interests of my children and made every effort to reduce conflict when he could. He's not simply an "attack dog" out to "win" your case. (So often, when that's the case, it's the children who lose.) Ultimately, his aim was to help reach a settlement and the best possible custody arrangement under extra difficult circumstances, and also to save me tens of thousands of dollars in potential trial costs. His job was not easy. In the midst of an out-of-control situation, I came to trust his counsel. I called the number expecting to speak to a paralegal or a Receptionist to set up a consult. Instead I spoke directly to Matt. We went pretty much right into a consult. He listened to me, reviewed what I told him and offered extremely helpful advice. Unfortunately, Matt can not handle the complexities of my case(mostly family law), but he did suggest some other attorneys and gave me some great advice.
I reached out to Matt a few days later to ask if he could send me some documents I had a hard time finding online. Matt promptly responded back and emailed the documents over to me.
I really appreciated how personal he was. He seemed very straightforward and honest. I would have loved to have him handle my case, but I understand the reasons he couldn't.
