I hired John a couple years ago when I received my fourth OWI in Iowa. John fought tooth and nail for me in court, outlining the person I've become. And he somehow made the judge see past my record, and view me as a human being. The result of that case ended in 30 days in county with probation, instead of 5 years in prison! I can't speak to the other lawyers at this firm, but I had a very disturbing experience with Andrew Castle, who represented one of my friends in a relatively high profile case. Unfortunately, my friend was found guilty on all 7 counts. And my friend and I weren't really sure of what to do. I asked him if there was any way I could use my platform to try to help? And my friend said that it might help, but that we should first ask his lawyer Andrew, before doing anything. We had agreed that this was a good idea, and I sent an email asking what Andrew thought, making it very clear that I wouldn't do anything if that made him or my friend uncomfortable.
When I asked Andrew if using my platform would be of any use, Andrew's response was very aggressive. I asked him why he was being aggressive, when I already had agreed to not doing anything that he didn't feel comfortable with. To my surprise, his response was to tell me to stop talking to his client, my friend, while he was in custody.
It was a very jarring experience as I simply wanted to try to help my friend, and again, had no interest in doing anything that would make my friend or Andrew feel uncomfortable.
I also found this to be very disturbing, as I imagine being in jail is tough, and someone in jail might want to have as many friends as possible to talk to. However, because I didn't want to further anger Andrew, I and others stopped talking to our friend until he was out of custody. I think that's an incredibly horrible and cruel position to put all of us in, as we simply wanted to provide emotional support throughout an incredibly tough time.
I found Andrew to be extremely insecure, aggressive, and unprofessional. If you or someone you care about is going through a legal process, it's generally a very painful time, and having a lawyer lash out in these ways really adds to the stress of that. I would highly recommend finding a lawyer who can treat others in a professional manner, or at least with a kind mentality.

Barry went above and beyond in so many ways. As his client, I was expecting professionalism and efficiency - both of which he executed flawlessly. What I was not expecting was how well he not only managed my expectations of my case, but the extent to which he made me feel heard, believed in my innocence and how understanding he was of the mental health impact that my situation was having on me. Russell Babcock and Logan Noblin
What can I say about Russell and Logan, along with Anna Yum and the rest of the incredible team....they saved my life and got me back home to my family!
From the start Russell was very skeptical and realistic of my charges, and the likelihood that things would go my way. As our relationship grew and more details and facts about the case came out, things slowly started to change. He and Logan really started to believe in me.
As the case kept going, with the DAs reluctance to see this for what it was, Russell, Logan and Anna, continued to have the difficult talks of the realities and risks of continuing on towards trial, and not agreeing to take a plea deal for something I was innocent of. I appreciated their willingness to have the hard talks. It was an incredibly horrible position to be in, but with their belief in me, it helped me push forward. Unfortunately the DA did push things to trial.
Right from the start of trial, I couldn't help but feel confident. From Russell's unmatched experience, and his incredible mind that is always thinking of every angle and working non stop, to Logan's cool, calm presence and complete control of the courtroom. They were the perfect team! They bounced questions and ideas off each other the entire trial. Their preparation showed every step of the way. They were always courteous to the judge, related things to jurors, had great questioning of the witnesses, and came out on top with every exchange with the DA.
Results were unanimous not guilty verdict within one hour of deliberations!
Russell and Logan were total rock stars from start to finish. Anna Yum was amazing and knew exactly the right pair to assign to take on my case. 5 stars in every way!!
I would not only refer them to any one I know that finds themselves needing a defense lawyer, but I would not let them go with anyone else!

Lauren just assisted me with a case. I'm from out of state (Iowa), and Lauren handled everything for me and I was able to get the issue settled with Lauren's assistance over the phone and via email. Maury Beaulier was very responsive and detailed. He made my contested divorce so simple and fast from start to finish. He was always available when I had a question. I've been looking for a legal assistance for awhile. Most attorneys are charging too much fees and are not honest. However, finding Mr. Beaulier was one of the best experiences in my life. He charges reasonable fees, is an honest lawyer and responses in timely manner. I asked him to help draft a motion for contempt of court and he did that. I would highly recommend him.

Fantastic job by John Hunter Smith! He was very attentive to my situation, and constructed our defense based on wrong doings of the arresting officer. He knew the rules of the sobriety test better than she did, and pointed out areas where she went wrong, and pointed out where she was trying to trick me into saying something wrong. He reviewed the body cam video and her report many times to pick up discrepancies between what happened and what she said happened.
I was extremely pleased with John and an overall good guy, as well.
All 6 jurors came back not guilty! Thanks, John!

John Hunter Smith was a beacon of hope to my family at a time when our options appeared limited and the likelihood of a satisfactory resolution looked impossible during a Inappropriate Student/Teacher Relationship charge. We had never had to hire an attorney, and was unsure of what to do. He treated us like his own family and walked us through every step.

I was curious to see if I had any charges on my record as drinking and parties were the essence of my college years.
It's still on my record, a misdemeanor, for a charge that was initially given to me by the police. However, as a 20 yr old, I was worried about my future. However, 13 yrs later, Im still uneasy of with this predatory lawyer. I thought that I was getting value as he was apart of a highly reviewed legal practice at the time.
I could not have been more wrong. He used scare tatic of him stating of the seriousness of my case and that retaining him would produce the best possible outcome.
He was very knowledgeable of the proceedings police take, however in the end, I know without a shadow of a doubt it was an easy money grab for him.
I still remember to this day. First, I need to retain him for $7500, then pay for a couple of motions to where he told me to plead guilty for the misdemeanor charges that was initially charged.
This would be fine if there were any new damaging evidence. However, there wasn't. I was just scared to retain a predatory lawyer for 7500, and paid an additional 2500 for a preliminary hearing and one motion.
Please, I implore that you consult multiple attorneys before picking one that could be as predatory as this one.

Mr. Donahue got my daughters speeding ticket in the OBX dropped to a non violation ticket. This saved her from getting points on her out of state license and also her insurance going up. He and his staff are very easy to work with and told my daughter everything she needed to do to ensure success. Everyone was helpful and kept in close contact with my daughter. Jeremy Koop was my lawyer during a very serious court case. He is a rude person only likes to email or text can't call his phone it goes straight to voicemail. Made me feel like he was working against me instead of for me. I had to do allot of my own foot work to get out of jail while he told me to stop trying to put in for programs. He basically in my eyes stole my money I only seen him once in person he didnt even have the common courtesy to go over my plea agreement with me in person he did it over the phone. Once I fired him he sent me another clients PSI report it just shows how unprofessional he really is. Me firing Harvey skees blessed me with a better attorney who has my best interest at heart and it he was court appointed. So if u have a serious case I truly recommend you find someone better or use a public defender rather than use Harvey skees

I was arrested for fleeing a police officer. I was traveling from Missouri to ND. I wanted to drive to a safe, well-lit area since I was a female driving alone, late at night, in the middle of now where. I slowed down and put my blinker on to acknowledge I would be pulling over. I ended up tack stripped and arrested at gun point.
Prosecutor wanted one year probation.
Harvey knew how to handle the situation. He did all the work. I ended up with a year unsupervised however after that one year I will have nothing on my record.
This was all handled with me in Missouri and out of court.
I am pleased with the outcome.

After I paid thousands for his legal “expertise”, he tried convincing me to plead guilty for a crime I never committed. He never had my back. If I would have followed his advice, I would have lost my career. I went against his “expertise” and fought back and the case was dismissed. He was terribly responsive throughout and didn’t even tell me the final verdict; I had to call the courts myself. Save yourself the time and money and find someone else!

During the hardest most emotional day of my life Michaela not only fought for me and my rights as a mother, but she gave me the confidence I needed to hold my head high. I walked into family court without a lawyer for over 3 years because I could not afford an attorney. Always leaving the courthouse feeling completely defeated and powerless. But, when I finally got my trial date I realized that I was too emotionally attached to this case to represent myself. So, I hired Michaela. I heard she was the best. I wasn’t sure I even knew what that meant at the time. But after watching her in action I can honestly say that she is absolutely the BEST! She fought as if my daughter was hers. She found evidence to prove my entire case. Evidence that other lawyers didn’t even notice. When it started to feel like I was loosing, she helped me keep my composure. Knowing how emotional this can be she sympathized with me, all while encouraging me and letting me know that it was going to be all right. When it came to court, filing all the right documents, getting evidence in on time, and being prepared for trial I give her a 5star review. But what means more to me than any of that was having a lawyer on my side that gave me all the confidence I needed to fight for my daughter. Someone who not only believed in me, but who made this fight so much easier. Also, I had 19 people with me on this day and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM were ALL amazed by her.
