Patrick is a pathetic lawyer who should never ever be around to assist the new generation of lawyers with anything. He is unprofessional and only cares about making a gain for himself even when that means disregarding the livelihood of others and his clients.

Please beware of this law firm and check with the NC State Bar about attorney Patrick Megaro’s reprimand to not practice law in our State. He was hired to represent me in an Equitable Distribution case. Megaro failed to file a transcripts contact Rule 70 with Alamance County Clerk of Courts office. He missed the deadline then missed the dates after that could have gotten us an extension. My only hope for an appeal was over!!! They didn’t even tell me till months later that the appeal never went through. And to add insult to injury he blamed me for not hiring a transcriber in time. That is a complete false statement. I was told they would hire someone, file the contract and I would pay the cost of transcripts. So I paid the transcriber that I had to locate and hire because they didn’t find one within the time restrictions according to NC Law. Little did I know that I paid $10,000 for nothing because they lost my hope for an appeal. This is an unethical and unprofessional law firm. Please check out Patrick Megaro’s loss of license to practice in the State of NC for many years.

Helped me through a domestic charge I was wrongfully accused of. Mr. Kaess was always easily reached and answered all my questions, of which I had quite a few as this was my first time accused of anything. He also worked out a payment plan where if he hadn't, I wouldn't have been able to afford any help yet made too much for a public defender. I highly recommend anyone to utilize his outstanding services.

I can't say enough about Ryan! He taught me many years ago that court proceedings take time and steps, and as clients we want results right now. After he explained the process to me it lifted a lot of the anxiety and stress that comes along with the process. He's always been up front about our position every time he has represented me, from DWIs, criminal matters as well as family matters. I was extremely happy with the success of every case he has taken care of for me. His results are a direct reflection of the case study he does for every client, since the laws are constantly changing so is his due diligence on every single case. He puts in the time and effort to represent each of his clients to the very best of his ability, on every case! If your looking for representation that's honest , and done with integrity Ryan is lawyer your looking for. He makes the process very easy.

MAKE HIM WRITE EVERYTHING YOU HIRE HIM TO DO IN YOUR CONTRACT. DON'T TRUST HE WILL DO IT ON HIS WORD. HIS CONTRACT IS VERY MISLEADING. I hired him to get a declaratory judgment on my legal status and he charged me $15,000.00 up front and assured me he would find out what court we needed to go to. So I signed his contract and paid the $15,000.00 . The contract he produced for me to sign alluded to going to court but the way he worded it I had no way to enforce it when he changed his mind about my representation. After six months all he had done was to produced two letters and after the second letter he got a response from the other party and then told me he could not do anything else. He sent me to another Attorney to file a complaint in Federal court and refused to refund any of the $15,000.00. I filed a complaint to the TN Board of Professional Conduct and Mr. Isaacs hired another Attorney to represent him, who then offered me a $3,000.00 refund on the fee. I told him I felt Mr. Isaacs had only done about $3,000.00 worth of work and I would like the full amount of the UNEARNED fee back. To this day I have not been refunded any of the fee I paid Mr. Isaacs and the complaint I filed has been dropped by the board. I was a fool for trusting Mr. Isaacs and to pay $15,000.00 up front

He and Zachary, another attorney in his office,, who we had the pleasure of working with as well these past few months, fought hard to get the very best outcome for our case. They both were willing to make time to talk whenever we needed. I can’t say enough good things about Glenn Cooper and associates. I thank God for leading us to them!

Language Interpreter Center services are unreliable and over priced. When the app stopped functioning I reached out three times via phone and email and received no response. We had to cancel multiple patient appointments because of no functioning services and no response from the company. We have since changed to an Outside company who provides outstanding service 24/7 365 at less than half the price of AIJ. I'm happy to support local, and even pay a little more to do so, but only if quality service is provided.

He had me gather character letters, my husband C-File, he led us on for 8 months. Then he stop answering phone calls, we are left in the dust, and he got away with $5,000 of my money. Do not hire him, he's a scam. He told me he would refund my money, and he just ghosted me. The lawyer didn't look at the dashcam of the police. I was mentally ill, going in and out of the rehab for Schizophrenia and had a car crash. The police wrote completely wrong details about the incident like I was in the car and they had to drag me out, when in reality I was waiting outside the car after I had the crash. If he wanted he could have had the case dismissed, but he convinced my family for the plea deal. Since I was newly on medicine and didn't have my mental illness in control I signed the plea. Now I have a misdemeanor. Like you know how lawyers represent you and find an angle to fight your case, this guy never did that.

First of all let me start by saying that i was legitimately guilty.im pretty sure thats the first thing i told him.i have already been to prison for 5 years for manufacturing meth and delvery and sales of that same meth. Then i got charged with the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Let me mention they had a confession. However forced. They had it and the judge allowed it.hear this next part loud and clear for you real criminals who read this.minmum mandatory for this charge is 3 years in prison.that means by law i can get no less than 3 years but thats exactly what happened. The way he operates in a courtroom is amazing.they changed prosecutors 3 times because in hearings he made them look like beginners. Until they got their best guy.a real hard ass for wanting to win.and in the end i did 6 hours in jail.he sent his personal bail bondsman to the jail and had my bail posted with no money. Yes .u read this right.he also took my case on payments. And when i fell behind he let me work off some cash.who does this?no one right.well the classy people at the nejame law firm did that but more specifically mike lafay did this..also i never had to take off work for court in this year long process.i think i went a total of three times.in the end i got four years probation after the case was over and i was serving my probation he continued to be my attorney. He filed for early term two times at no extra charge.and i have been a free man for two months now.i have gained my freedom and a friend from one bad ass lawyer.#superman @ Michael Lafay. I truly beleive if had any other attorney i would have been sent back to prison on the express line.

Jamie Hunter was court appointed for a Post Conviction Relief, for which I was incarcerated, on a criminal case in March of 2019. I needed a forensic analysis done on the police video. She indicated that she would do this, and I trusted her. My trial was scheduled for 2/19/ 20. I wrote her a letter in November or December of 2019 to inquire about the progress she had made on the video analysis, and to ask some other minor questions related to my case since my trial was approaching. Jamie did not respond. In February of 2020 I sent the same letter to Jamie as my trial was weeks away. I finally received my response by way of a scheduled attorney call at the prison five days prior to my hearing. Five days before my hearing, Jamie informed me that she was filing for a continuance and a motion to withdraw because she had a baby in January. She had my case for nearly one year and never once informed me that she would not be able to represent me, despite being fully aware of her pregnancy. She waited until the 11th hour to tell me that, because she had a baby the previous month, she would not be able to represent me. I was in prison and trusted her to do the necessary things for my case. I regret that. COVID-19 caused the courts to shut down immediately following the untimely notice of her actions. I am out of prison and STILL fighting my case. I wish I hadn't trusted her to work on my behalf as it turned out to be a huge waste of time. Also, I was ordered to pay nearly $900 in restitution for her 'service' (or, rather, lack of service). So, it was a waste of money as well. I do not recommend hiring her for a criminal case.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE ... Hired them for a developing case and rarely dealt with the actual attorneys. Instead they passed me off to their assistant Diana Wilson who’s pushy and is almost always in a sour mood and demanding more money/payments to be made. Made me very uncomfortable to deal with. You should NEVER have to feel like your attorney (legal) team is against you, which is how I felt constantly. If you aren’t able meet when they request for an “office visit” after a few times they will rule you non compliant and drop you. A lot of the office visits were in the middle of the day in work days. I almost never got a phone call back when they said they would and always had to call them the next day. They treat their high paying customers with more attention and leave the low paying ones to deal with Diana (who knows jack squat about negotiating). In the end I’m out almost 2 grand and all they accomplished was a few volleying phone calls to the opposing attorney and basically being the middle man for relaying the other legal teams requests. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Not sure where to begin. I guess we should start with the first problem. I hired John's services 2 weeks before my first court date. 2 business days before my court date after not hearing from him. I decided to call him. Not knowing how things were going to go in court, I had a lot of questions. I was told by John that I need not to rush the court and don't worry about it we have plenty of time. As soon as I told him court is on Monday. He immediately put me on hold and figured out that he could not even be there for my first court date. Fortunately the firm had one of the other attorneys go to court with me and she was great. I wish I would have hired her instead of John. The part that blew my mind was at my sentencing. The man that repeatedly told me how bad my situation was after reading statements from all parties involved. He sits down and reads the statement with the assistant of the prosecuting attorney. He then tells me that he wish he would have a chance to read that sooner. Well my first sit down meeting with him. We read through all the statements together. I feel that I would have had the same or better results with my outcome if I would have just went with the court appointed attorney. One last thing. Someone that has been in this line of work for 30+ years should not be stuttering and using the words um, uh, and other things like that when he is speaking to the Judge. I am a ninth grade drop out and can handle my wording better than that. Oh and yes he loved throwing in my face that I was a ninth grade drop out. I will just say. I wish I would have saved the THOUSANDS of dollars I paid for such in incompetent service.

I retained John English of Kronzek & Cronkright, PLLC for my defense on a misdemeanor drug charge. Since I had no criminal history, I was eligible for section 7411 in Michigan. John handled my case and not only got me section 7411, but my probation was limited to 90 days with the stipulation that it would end as soon I passed a drug test. Since John had advised me to avoid all drugs including alcohol, I tested clean and was immediately released from probation. My probation lasted about 15 minutes. I was very pleased and would recommend Kronzek & Cronkright as well as John English for your defense. Thanks John.

Barbara was disorganized because she lost paperwork that I sent her as evidence for my case. I really had a hard time and gave her a long time but I had enough at the end. Benjamin Brooks worked with my family on an issue involving my daughter. He was extremely helpful from our initial phone conversation through representing my daughter at a college hearing. Mr. Brooks, at first, tried to help move a stalled process along in an expeditious manner through repeated contact with officials and with a minimal cost to us. When it became clear that more legal representation was necessary and with very little advance notice, Mr. Brooks agreed to represent my daughter at a formal hearing and provided us with a thorough overview and advance preparation. Due to the fact that my daughter has a disability, Mr. Brooks also worked with officials to make an exception that allowed my husband and me to participate at the hearing, greatly reducing my daughter’s stress level. Mr. Brooks made what could have been a stressful hearing easy to manage, and the issue was resolved quickly with the best possible outcome. I highly recommend Attorney Benjamin Brooks.

I'm writing in appreciation for the excellent legal services I received from Attorney Ben Brooks of Good Schneider Cormier and Fried in Boston. Ben was effective, considerate, and most of all efficacious in his work for me. One case involved eviction, and another a more felonious charge. In both cases he expedited solutions involving the least possible ongoing complication, with good results in both cases. With what I have come to think of as a characteristic style, Ben not only provided excellent legal service but also calmed me down by the way he talked about these matters. In the past I have experienced the same kind of high-quality professional services with Ben's firm, Good, Schneider, Cormier & Fried. I consider Ben not only a highly-skilled individual attorney, but also working in a judicious and level-headed way that seems to be the hallmark of the entire GSCF firm.

I was arrested for DUI in Dec 2014 in Collin County. I think I got a hold of him in January 2015. He kept pushing back my case and kept telling me they may have some veteran aid coming up in the county and to just hold on. In short, he pushed back my trial to fight it to January 2016! That is when I found out insurance, work, ect all go off the date of conviction, not the date of incident. Joel knew this and never told me. DUIs take a while to recover from and this added a year to the process for me. If I knew the date of conviction was what insurance and jobs went off of, I would have set my trial date as soon as possible. I felt extremely mislead by Joel.

We had already given him 1200 dollars, but he absolutely refused to shift an ass cheek until we got him ANOTHER 1200 dollars. But he only left himself 4 days to prepare. He was not prepared, to say the least. He couldn't get simple motions granted, didn't prevail in court, and appeared ready to surrender from the start. He rolls over at the suggestion of resistance. He doesn't communicate with you, except to send a bill. For work he apparently did, but for which there is no evidence. Please don't put your trust in this man. I hired Gary Smart about 10 years ago through a recommendation from a church member. I was in a very tight legal situation out of Denton County after admitting to being partiality guilt to a crime and believing the detective would hold up to his promise to me of dropping the felony to a misdemeanor. The detective didn't hold up to it, however Attorney Smart was able to get them to change their mind and get me an extremely fair plea deal. The judge even told me "Son, you better be thankful that you hired such a great attorney, stop making dumbass decisions and get your life together". I'll forever be grateful to him fair price/payment plan, his professionalism, and care that he had shown me.

Veronica Legarreta has proven to be very unprofessional. She takes weeks, and even months to respond to case inquiries. Both Veronica and her assistant are verbally aggressive, rude and have even yelled at us on more than one occasion. We requested an itemized bill to check retainer funds status. Veronica became irate, slamming folders onto her desk, and berated her assistant in front of us for being inefficient. Veronica emailed us the following day, stating she would no longer be our attorney. Over the last 2 months, she continues to be difficult in transferring our file to our new attorney. We have decided to have a police escort accompany us to retrieve our paperwork, in person. Veronica Legarretta is a physically and verbally hostile person. We will certainly report her behavior to the State Bar for unprofessionalism.

We hired Ms Legaretta when our son was charged with multiple non-violent felonies, and looking at a sentence of 25 years. Immediately after hiring her, she did the research, formulated a plan, communicated that plan to us, and then went to work. As with all worried parents, we had questions every day. She encouraged us to text or call as often as we had questions. And she responded with minutes or hours everytime. She was always straight forward, even when the information wasn't what we wanted to hear. She coordinated and collaborated with the prosecutor multiple times, and was able to get a much lesser sentence. Her rates were very affordable, and accepted a payment plan. She made the legal process as easy as possible. She always fully explained the process which helped us understand. We definitely recommend her if you are in need of a criminal lawyer.

Chris Sully was my court appointed attorney and it was always hard to get ahold of him or get any info on my case... he was saying i was going to have to do a few years in jail. I hired another lawyer, Dora Garza, and she was amazing! I only had to do 6 months probation and report by mail. Whatever you do, do not get Chris Sully as your attorney because he will not try to help you.

I am a new business owner and needed an attorney to review my first commercial lease. I felt a little intimidated by the whole process, and didn't really even know the first questions to ask. Chris took the time to call me personally, right away, and answered all of my questions. He then followed up with an email. He didn't bill me for phone time, like other lawyers have in the past. From start to finish he made the process clear and concise. He worked quickly, stayed in budget and drafted a lease that was much more in my favor, that the landlord signed today. I feel confident to not only recommend him to others, but also use him again, without hesitation. Thank you Chris!

If I could I would not even give one star. This attorney was recommended to me by my neighbor who has used her in the past. I had initially gone in for myself looking for a divorce attorney. A fee for retainer was set but this attorney only works with cash payments. I dont know many people who have thousands of dollars in cash lying around. I certainly do not and so I could not retain her at this point in time. My son needed an attorney to help him handle an issue regarding his drivers license. We sat with her again and while she was initially very helpful in the consult we have not been able to communicate with her since. Her retainer was agreed on as $500 at the time of the appointment but she didnt want any money at that time. When my son called back he was told the retainer would now be $750. Since that day both myself and my son have called no less than 6 different times over a two or 3 week period to try and speak directly with this attorney. She has never returned either of our calls. I consider this very bad business and so will not be doing business with her at all.

Would not recommend Bellinger law if you’re a single father and trying to get 50-50 or more. I asked him to file a petition form to change my daughter’s last name. He said he would do it and then months later he said that something happened in the system so it didn’t go through and I got a different lawyer now and he said that he never filed it. And any agreements that The other party files he wants you to sign without any concerns, even though there are words in the agreement that screws my party over.

I SUGGEST DO NOT HIRE! Very unethical conduct. Violated ethics according to ethics rules of the Iowa Bar in representing me. The ethics violations handicapped my abilities to have a fair shot in divorce proceedings tipping the scales towards petitioner. I had to look up petitioners filings for myself. I could not get a response from attorney as to what was filled. Divorce funds utilized to get caught up to speed on the divorce. Proceeding to mediation stage at the time of hire. Half of my fund funneled out headed towards trial scheduling. In her own justifications abuse her power as attorney over disabled human, injected personal feelings of insecurity, and acted out in resentful conduct to remove herself as council at a very vital time in the proceedings. I am disabled and half my fund is depleted. Thus, hindered the ability to move forward with new council funds. Tricia is not a team player, and does not work well with a total legal team towards the best possible outcome in regards to the hiring client with a minor child and DV case in another state. Tricia stated in person meeting whiskey (SCREWBALL) is good in coffee. Attempted to convince me that the whisky bottle in office had changed color due to the sun. It appeared clear like vodka. I do not know if this is the issue with job performance ability. I am just stating my truth, facts, and observation. Hopefully my review saves a human from being taken advantage of during such a life changing event as divorce. Divorce involves safety of minor child with many personal assets. SUGGEST DO NOT HIRE! I will add the personal email demonstrating personal feelings of bitter resentment toward the legal team in another state working to keep my family safe.

Mr. Malowney is an excellent Attorney. I hired him to provide me with a second opinion. He was kind enough to meet me at night, because that was the only time I could meet. He carefully and thoroughly reviewed everything, and provided me with measured, insightful advice. I could not have asked for more.

It is with profound respect and gratitude that I extend my heartfelt endorsement for Justin Walker, Jared Veliz, Lorrie Walker and the whole support team at Walker Law whose dedication, perseverance, and tireless advocacy have left an indelible mark on my life. Despite facing one of the largest corporations in the world, Justin and Jared stood resolute and fearless, embodying the very essence of bravery and commitment to justice. Throughout the legal proceedings, Jared and Justin demonstrated not only their exceptional legal acumen but also a deep sense of empathy and friendship that has greatly endeared them to me. Their readiness to confront formidable challenges and navigate complex legal landscapes was nothing short of inspiring. These are unique and special individuals—the kind of individuals you want with you in your foxhole during the most intense battles and scariest of times. Although the outcome was not entirely in our favor, the measure of their success is not merely found in the verdict, but in the relentless spirit and boundless energy they brought into advocating for me and my case. Their sacrifices, grit and devotion did not go unnoticed, and their steadfast dedication continues to resonate with me and all who have the privilege of knowing them. Justin, Jared and the whole Walker Law team are not just my attorneys; they have become my honored allies, friends and trusted advisors. Their profound commitment to their clients and the cause of justice makes them truly commendable and deserving of the highest praise. Before, during and after trial, Justin Walker displayed the most genuine and heartfelt concern for my well-being and the well-being of my family. He did so even when it would have been understandable, reasonable and justified to instead only focus on his own well-being or that of his team members and family. I love the individuals I’ve been privileged enough to spend time with during this journey. I thank God that Justin, Jared, Lorrie and their team have come into my life. I recommend Walker Law to anyone seeking the very highest level of legal expertise and advocacy. Their professionalism and integrity are exemplary, and they represent the best of what the legal profession has to offer.

I highly suspect the 5 star reviews are fake. They keep you in the dark, hold internal meetings without your awareness and make decisions without your input or knowledge (only to learn about it at the next billing cycle) and are very, very difficult to get hold of. Almost all emails are met with out of office replies and no voicemails ever responded to. When a status hearing I did not know existed was extended by my attorney without my knowledge (only to learn this in the next billing cycle) and saw my attorney had answers to interrogatories for nearly a month without telling me only to discover this from OJS = you're fired. OJS literally laughed and smiled... like yeah good luck with that, seemed par for the course. Not to mention a strong, positive person for my case was not contacted three separate times my lawyer told me he would, only for him to say when I finally called him out that he didn't think he was important, is more than messed up, it's unethical = you're fired. Didn't trust me, and didn't even contact the person... so how would you know? That's just a small piece. I highly do not recommend this "law" firm.

We did a project which included several change orders asked for by the Hicks at his residence . Mr. Hicks, a partner at this law firm , acted very unprofessional, his wife actually contacted my employees via text causing tortious interference with our contracts. While completing his contracts, we found his soil was sub par and full of clay and needed to be remediated. He and his wife practically had temper tantrums causing for an unbelievably unsuitable work environment at his home. Even with their attempts to cause harm to me and my company, we competed the contract. A year later, he claimed that some of the brick pavers moved, I explained to him that he refused to pay to remedy the soil situation and therefore it was not covered by our warranty. He proceeded to use his law degree to sue us, he filed suit for over $24,000.00 which included almost $12,000.00 in new landscaping which was not part of my contract. While delivering the discovery to his house, the driveway which he claimed to have been removed and reinstalled in his lawsuit had the same pavers sinking in the same spot a year after they were supposedly replaced.. if this partnership allows attorneys like this, who use their law license to try to steal from hard working contractors then I would say run away from this firm. They support disgraceful behavior like this from their partners! We just recently went to binding arbitration. The arbiter threw out 99% of his case and awarded him $2300.00, one tenth of what he was fraudulently suing me and my company for!

What a Federal Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A federal crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals or organizations accused of violating federal laws. These lawyers have experience navigating the complex federal criminal justice system, which includes higher penalties, stricter sentencing guidelines, and a different court system than state-level crimes. Federal crime lawyers defend clients against a wide range of charges, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, fraud, conspiracy, gun violations, and more. They assist in every phase of the legal process, from investigation to trial and appeals, ensuring their clients' rights are protected.

If you’re facing federal criminal charges, a federal crime lawyer can provide the necessary defense and expertise to navigate the complexities of federal law and achieve the best possible outcome.

When Should I Hire a Federal Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a federal crime lawyer in any situation where you are under investigation or have been charged with a federal crime. Key scenarios include:

  • Charged with a federal crime: If you’ve been charged with a federal offense, such as drug trafficking, wire fraud, money laundering, or conspiracy, hiring a federal crime lawyer is essential to ensure your defense is tailored to federal court procedures and laws.
  • Target of a federal investigation: If you are being investigated by federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, or IRS, it’s crucial to retain a lawyer early on. A lawyer can help you avoid self-incrimination and build a defense strategy to counter the investigation.
  • White-collar crimes: If you’ve been accused of federal white-collar crimes such as securities fraud, embezzlement, or insider trading, a lawyer can help defend you against charges brought by federal prosecutors and regulatory agencies like the SEC.
  • Drug-related charges: If you’re facing federal drug charges, such as possession, distribution, or trafficking of controlled substances, a lawyer can represent you in federal court and negotiate plea deals or challenge the prosecution’s case.
  • Gun-related offenses: If you’ve been charged with federal gun crimes, including illegal possession, trafficking, or using a firearm during a violent crime, a federal crime lawyer can help defend against harsh federal penalties.
  • Immigration-related crimes: Federal charges involving immigration violations, such as human trafficking, smuggling, or illegal re-entry after deportation, require specialized legal knowledge of both federal criminal law and immigration law.
  • Appeals: If you’ve been convicted of a federal crime and are seeking to appeal the conviction or sentence, a federal crime lawyer can assist with the appeals process, focusing on legal errors or issues that may have occurred during the trial.

Hiring a lawyer as soon as you know you are under investigation or charged with a federal crime gives you the best chance of protecting your rights and building a strong defense.

What Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Do?

A federal crime lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to defend individuals and organizations accused of federal crimes. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Defending clients in federal court: Federal crime lawyers represent clients in all stages of federal criminal proceedings, including pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Building a defense strategy: Lawyers thoroughly investigate the charges, review the prosecution’s evidence, and develop a defense strategy tailored to the unique aspects of federal law and sentencing guidelines.
  • Negotiating plea deals: In some cases, a lawyer may negotiate with federal prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties, potentially avoiding a lengthy trial and reducing sentencing.
  • Handling federal investigations: If you are the subject of a federal investigation, a lawyer will guide you on how to interact with federal agents, respond to subpoenas, and handle potential interrogations, ensuring your rights are not violated.
  • Filing pre-trial motions: Federal crime lawyers can file motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or challenge the legality of the investigation or arrest, aiming to weaken the prosecution’s case before trial.
  • Representing clients in appeals: If you’ve been convicted, a federal crime lawyer can represent you in the appeals process, focusing on legal errors, misconduct, or constitutional issues that may have affected the trial’s outcome.
  • Managing sentencing and post-conviction matters: Lawyers also help clients during the sentencing phase, arguing for leniency or alternatives to imprisonment, and assist with post-conviction matters such as parole or supervised release violations.

How Are Federal Crime Lawyers Paid?

Federal crime lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected time commitment. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many federal crime lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience, the case complexity, and geographic location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as negotiating a plea deal or representing you during the initial stages of a federal investigation, some lawyers offer a flat fee. Flat fees for federal criminal defense cases often range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on the scope of the work.
  • Retainer: In complex federal cases, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers a portion of the legal work. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as they work on the case. Retainers typically range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the case.
  • Payment plans: Some federal crime lawyers may offer payment plans, especially if the case involves extended litigation or lengthy appeals. This can help make legal fees more manageable over time.

It’s crucial to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to understand the total cost of representation and how payments will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a federal crime lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Federal crime lawyers generally charge between $300 and $1,000 per hour. For example, if a lawyer charges $500 per hour and spends 50 hours on your case, the total cost would be $25,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as negotiating a plea deal, flat fees can range from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the seriousness of the charges and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Retainers: In more complex or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer of $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the case’s scope and complexity.
  • Appeals: If you’re appealing a federal conviction, legal fees for an appeal can range from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the issues being raised and the length of the appellate process.

In addition to legal fees, you may also need to cover additional costs such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Federal Crime Lawyer

Before hiring a federal crime lawyer, it’s essential to ask key questions to ensure they have the necessary experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with federal cases?
Ensure the lawyer has extensive experience handling federal criminal cases, particularly those similar to yours, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, or gun violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost of your defense.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including plea deals, dismissals, or trial strategies.
  4. What is your approach to defending federal cases?
Ask how the lawyer plans to approach your defense, including potential pre-trial motions, negotiations with federal prosecutors, or trial strategies.
  5. Will my case go to trial?
Ask whether the lawyer thinks your case will settle out of court through a plea deal or whether it’s expected to go to trial, and how the lawyer will prepare for either scenario.
  6. How long will my case take?
Federal cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer for an estimated timeline, from investigation to trial or settlement.
  7. What are the possible penalties if convicted?
Ask about the potential penalties you could face if convicted, including prison time, fines, or other consequences, and how the lawyer plans to mitigate those penalties.

How to Check the Credibility of a Federal Crime Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable federal crime lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Look for federal crime experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in federal criminal defense and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on federal cases.
  • Check for federal court admissions: Make sure the lawyer is admitted to practice in federal court, as federal criminal cases are handled in federal district courts.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a federal crime lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Information about the charges or investigation: Provide any documents related to the charges against you, such as indictments, subpoenas, or notices of investigation. This helps the lawyer assess the severity of the charges and the potential defense strategy.
  • Details of previous interactions with federal agents: If federal agents have contacted you or conducted searches, provide a detailed account of those interactions, including search warrants, interrogations, or evidence seized.
  • Questions about your case: Prepare a list of questions regarding the legal process, potential outcomes, and how the lawyer plans to defend you.
  • Relevant financial information: If your case involves financial crimes or assets that may be at risk, bring relevant financial records, such as bank statements, business records, or tax returns.
  • Previous legal history: If you have a prior criminal record or have been involved in federal investigations before, bring details about those cases.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal defense for your federal case.
