Ms. Bunker was wonderful!!! My husband and I needed something set-up quickly and she made it possible. Not only did she make it easy for my family, but worked around our crazy work schedules and guided us through the whole process. From the very beginning, she understood what my family need and what was important to us and how we wished to protect it. She gave us peace of mind. Thank you Ms. Bunker for your knowledge and guidance. We look forward to working with you!

Michael is a GREAT disability lawyer. I had a lawyer prior to him for my disability case who did nothing for my. Michael got me a hearing date, kept me informed about my case, answered any and all questions. He cares about his clients and their well being. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a great disability lawyer. And he won my case with a bench ruling.

Mr. Bill Eberhard has provided exceptional support to our school throughout the past several years. He has successfully represented us in matters of unemployment with the DWD, real estate cases, articles of incorporation and bylaws, as well as handling our collections. Mr. Eberhard routinely advises us of changes in laws and statutes that impact educational institutions within the state of Indiana. We frequently seek his sage counsel as we plan for the future.

I am a contractual-based computer programmer and performed work for a Macon, Georgia Internet development company from 2006-2010. I was working under essentially a verbal agreement with no written contract. That's all well and good when things are fine but when push comes to shove, verbal agreements are worth the paper they aren't written on. As it turned out, the company encountered financial difficulties during 2010 and eventually told me they no longer needed my services, refusing payment to me for two months worth of work plus a flat-fee service agreement. Mr. Finkelstein contacted the company on my behalf and negotiated a settlement with very quick results. I was extremely impressed with the way he presented my position, which was pretty weak to be honest, and he came through when another attorney may not have been able to reach an agreement. I highly recommend Mr. Finkelstein to anyone needing the services of an attorney.

My realtor and I recently met Benjamin about a zoning violation at a property we were interested in. I got in touch with Benjamin and gave him some preliminary information and we scheduled an initial consultation. At the meeting, Benjamin was very well prepared with all the relevant information and summarized his findings for us in a lucid, honest manner. He also advised us about our different options, the costs involved and the likelihood of any of those options working in our favor. In the end, we left the meeting with the information we needed to decide whether it was worth our while to proceed with the property. Completely satisfied that we had sound legal advice before committing a substantial amount of monies.

Jeff's assistance was invaluable as our non-profit sought to lease its first commercial property. We were quickly overwhelmed by the magnitude of the lease but Jeff reviewed the document and patiently walked us through the nuances while taking the time to explain each aspect and the impact upon our organization. He was thorough, responsive, patient and willing to go above and beyond normal actions. In short, Jeff exceeded all of our expectations in providing our organization with counsel and offering recommendations from a non-biased view which helped us realize this deal was not in our best interest. I would not hesitate to call Jeff again to gain his insight nor would I hesitate to recommend his services to others.

We hired Patrick to represent us in a claim against a contractor who failed to perform the duties that we had given partial payment too. Patrick was extremely professional and kept us informed of the process and what we could expect to happen throughout the lawsuit. We ended up winning the case and it was due to the attention to detail and commitment from Patrick to our case.

I have worked with Attorney Roxanne Sosnowski for almost 4 years on a professional basis. Attorney Sosnowski serves as our City's Municipal Attorney. She provides legal advice on a daily basis in a professional, knowledgeable, and courteous manner. She always has the best interest for her clients as she considers the law and how it relates to any matter that the city has. Attorney Sosnowski has great understanding and knowledge of the law. If there is any matter she is not familiar with she will do the research to research the legal answer. I have also come to know her personally, and cannot speak enough of her genuine care and compassion-not only for the city, but also for people in general. I would highly recommend her for any legal matter.

I had a case in Michigan for Child Abuse in the 1st Degree, I was unable to afford an attorney, I was given the name of Patrick Ball as to who my attorney was going to be. I met with Patrick in his office, we discussed the facts and put together a plan. Patrick contacted me almost daily with updates on my case and my mailbox had things in from him faster than I could read. As a public defender court appointed I could not ask for any better. Here I am 7 years later and ready to go to get my case expunged and Patrick is in Texas, Michigan lost an excellent lawyer and Texas got an excellent one. Patrick did the impossible for me, I am sure if he can do the impossible for me, he can do it for you. This is one man you want to know, and make sure you have in your back pocket if you need any help with anything. This man comes with a 10 star rating.

Excellent Attorney. Was prompt, excellent follow through and completely professional. Ever mindful of the costs related to defending a client, Sarah was efficient, detail oriented, creative and went beyond my expectations for a positive resolution. Personally I am not a fan of the profession, but when you need an attorney, you want someone like Sarah. Quiet, intelligent, and with the ability to strike like a pit bull terrier when representing her client.

I've known and worked with (and against) Stewart for approximately 25 years. Without a doubt, he is the pre-eminent municipal attorney in the state of Illinois, having authored and edited the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education volumes on municipal law. I have dealt with Stewart both as a negotiating opponent on a municipal matter, and worked with him in the capacity of co-defending counsel in another municipal matter. There is no other Illinois municipal attorney I esteem as highly.

My wife and I realized our marriage based green card petition had some potential issues in our case, so we decided to retain an attorney. When you retain an attorney, you want someone who is endowed with knowledge about the system, is diligent, has a positive attitude, will understand and tackle all angles of your case, and most importantly is sincere about you and your case. We knew from experience that not all attorneys are created equal, so we had initial consultations with several attorneys, and finally decided to retain Ryan because he seemed to fit the qualities we were looking for. Over the next couple of months, as our file was prepared and case moved through the system, our initial assessment of him was only further confirmed. He tackled the problematic issues in our case and explained them clearly during file preparation itself, to the point that they hardly came up in the interview. He was easily accessible, and even when busy he would always return our phone calls and emails. He was also extremely polite and professional, unlike some attorneys who make you feel like you have no self worth. He was positive and confident (but in a realistic, truthful way), unlike some attorneys who make you feel like your case is so difficult, they're not sure what will happen and that you shouldn't expect results. He was also sincere about us and our case, understanding that we're human beings and not just another casefile. And very reasonable when it came to fees, given the quality of service that he provides. We received an interview call for the green card approximately ten weeks after we applied. Ryan accompanied us to the interview. It was a positive experience, green card was approved at the interview. In sum, this attorney has some excellent qualities, and based on our experience, highly recommended. In sum, we find him to be an excellent attorney, and highly recommend him

I cannot speak highly enough about Mr. Nolan and the legal services he and his firm provided for me in regards to the Unlawful Detainer I had to deal with. Not only is Mr. Nolan compassionate to his clients, but his professionalism and tactics to fight for your rights are tremendous. He knows his way around a courtroom and all legal "mumbo-jumbo", that is without a doubt. If I ever need services in the area again, I would not hesitate at all to contact Mr. Nolan. I honestly cannot speak highly enough about Mr. Nolan, words are just not enough to do his legal services justice, nor anywhere near enough to thank him!

As an attorney myself, I have had the privilege of working alongside many talented professionals in the field. However, I must say that Casey Colburn stands out as an exceptionally gifted attorney who specializes in land use, zoning, and waterfront law. I am compelled to share my experience and admiration for Casey's work through this review on Avvo.com. I have known Casey for over ten years, and during that time, I have witnessed the dedication and passion he brings to his practice. Their comprehensive understanding of the intricacies and nuances of land use, zoning, and waterfront law is nothing short of impressive. He consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to his clients, ensuring their best interests are always at the forefront of any case. Casey's ability to navigate complex legal matters with ease and clarity is truly remarkable. They have a keen eye for detail and leave no stone unturned in their quest for justice. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with Casey on several occasions, and his professionalism and collaborative spirit make him a pleasure to work with.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
