It’s my absolute pleasure to recommend Blake Landon and his law firm of Philip & Epperson for legal services. I hired Mr. Landon after another Attorney with over 27 years’ experience was not getting me results with my legal situation. The end result for me was a WIN to whichI truly believe due to Mr. Landon and his firms’ partners who gave some guidance in my legal situation ending a long and very stressful nightmare. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Mr. Landon and his firm, his legal abilities, skills and professional demeanor came through for me when needed. His staff and Paralegal Deidra Coe was professional and caring in a very stressful time for me. I came to know Mr. Landon as a truly valuable asset to anyone needing Mr. Landon and his firm. He is honest, dependable, and incredibly hard-working. Beyond that, he is an impressive problem solver who was able to address complex issues with strategy and confidence. He is a person and Attorney who is true team player and someone you want on your side, and always manages to foster positive discussions to bring the best out of the situation. Without a doubt, I confidently recommend Mr. Landon and his firm for any of your legal issues and situations. I know that he will be beneficial to your legal situation. Doug

From the first time I met with Jonathan Csuka, I never doubted that he knew what he was talking about. His professionalism, knowledge, and overall expertise was always evident. If I had a question, he knew the answer, right then; he didn’t have to “get back to me.” Each time I came through the door, I was greeted; the business manager, Stephanie Griffin, always answered my billing questions and returned my calls right away; and since I live in Asheboro, Jon always worked around my schedule to ensure convenience. I am pleased with the quality of service, and feel that its value was good: I felt supported.

I could have not asked for a more honest lawyer. Anytime I called if he was not there his wife or daughter was always very helpful. Mr. Sherman always returned my calls and got my divorced done in a very timely manner. I have already recommended him to two other people that have been very pleased with him. He never made me feel like I was taking up too much of his time. His fees were very fair for all the work he did. A good friend used his wife for her bankruptcy and has had noting but good to say about her work also.

About a year ago I was going through some legal issues and needed an attorney. I had to file as indigent and was at the court's mercy as to whom they would appoint as my attorney. I had some fears about who I would get because you hear of all the horror stories about others getting court appointed attorneys and the attorneys not caring about their case thus not putting much effort towards the case. To be honest I thought that my worst fears had come true when I met Mr. Dickerson for the first time because he looked "too young" to know much about the judicial system. BOY WAS I WRONG. This man went out of his way to make sure all my needs were met and every time we spoke whether it was in person or over the phone, I felt like I was his only client. He was constantly emailing or calling me to make sure I knew; my court dates, what materials I needed to bring, any updates to my case, etc. Mr. Dickerson was fair and honest with me the entire time and never sugarcoated anything just to make me feel better. Once my case was dismissed (thanks to him) and I no longer was a client of his, I was still able to call him and he was willing to answer any of my questions. Try that with any other attorney and they will request some sort of fee. He is a genuine person, a great attorney and I consider him part of my family. I would pay to retain him as my attorney in the future and I reccomend anyone else do the same, and if you are lucky enough to have him appointed to your case, tell him the truth about everything and take comfort in knowing that he is doing everything in his power to help you. I truly believe that he went above and beyond what other attorneys would to help their clients. At this rate he will become partner in his current firm or have a firm of his own, sooner rather than later, no doubt about it! The Dickerson Law Firm.....has a nice ring to it.

I met Atty. Perry in August and called on him to represent me for a Show Cause and Child Reduction hearing in December. While he made me no promises, he said he would do what he could to get me a fair hearing, and did so. In fact, he was able to get me a Request for Modification scheduled for the same court date which saved me a lot of time, anguish and money. Even though my child support was reduced, it is high for my current income and other obligaitons, Thanks to Atty. Perry, now I can at least afford gas for school and work, and food. He did not overcharge me and responded to my questions. I felt a little weird that he didn' think it was necessary for me ot meet him personally before court.l But I was okay with that because I spoke to him by phone and had met him personally in the past three months. He seems to be a good, kind, compassionate, honest lawyer. I would recommend him strongly.

Regan Donnenfield was a light of hope to my family at a time when my options appeared limited. The likelihood of a satisfactory resolution seemed high on impossible. She was able to change the custody of my children, lower alimony, change out of state visitation and electronic communication. She also represented me in court several times and I did not have to travel every time. She provided me with documentation for future reference and forms that I would need to be able to travel outside of the country with my children. Her calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional support to myself and those I care about most. My children and I are eternally grateful for her service and I hereby highly recommend Ms. Regan Donnenfield without reservation.

Kelly was truly AMAZING in my divorce/custody case. It was a lengthy and complicated process. Kelly was extremely thorough and detail oriented. He was great on keeping me on task and focused. He made sure we did not waste time on things that were not pertinent to the case. I appreciated how he streamlined the process for me. Also, the office staff and paralegals were great in always communicating with me promptly when motions were filed or approved by the court. I could not have been more pleased with KMP Law! I am more than grateful for their services.

Nicole is a compassionate, kind, smart person who (almost literally) held my hand through my divorce. I didn't want to get divorced, but once that was decided, I knew I wanted it to be done with kindness, empathy, and without trying to best anyone. My former spouse and I were able to navigate the divorce process easily with help from Nicole. I have sent at least 6 friends to her and they were all pleased as well. In a world where there's this idea of family lawyers being sharks, Nicole is a breath of fresh air. She helps you through a sad, necessary time without making me feel exploited or like I was making things worse for my children and ex-spouse. I cannot say enough good things about her practice.

I had 2 consults with Chrissy before I hired her in my divorce/custody/alimony case. The consults were thorough and she was very realistic and honest. She balances professionalism with compassion while maintaining a calm and firm demeanor. She is very accommodating and even set it up so I was able to meet her at another law firm to go over property division in the current county I reside in. I am very appreciative for all of her work and I would recommend her to anyone seeking legal advice and/or representation.

Chelsea was amazing she was always available either by email or phone. She does her homework and is prepared for the cases. She spoke with me about every part of the case and made me feel at ease during the process of family court. Chelsea did not waste time/money on unnecessary resources that would not help my case but stuck to what was important. I have seen many different attorney over the past few years waiting for my family court hearings and Chelsea is more organized, prepared and professional than most of them out there.

Having done business with Robin Perrigo I would highly recommend her services. She is very kind and extremely patience with you. She is not just in the business for the money; she is concerned about her clients getting fair treatment and receiving the best outcome possible. Robin took the time to explain all of my options which allowed me to make the best decision for my situation. I am not a person who recommends someone just for the fun of it but this individual I firmly believe is the best in the business so what are you waiting on, contact her!

came to him for child custody case and divorce. I interviewed 24 lawyers before choosing him. HIs name kept coming up with judges and lawyers that I asked around. He really gets the important matters in the case quick and figures out what will be important to the judge and in the courtroom. He keeps you on track because you can get emotional and not always focused on what is important to winning your case. I liked the fact that he answers his on phone and when you come by his office he welcomes you in and talks to you. There is no red tape, no legal staff doing all the leg work and communication - just straight to your lawyer. One voice and one answer. He is very professional and all business. He has a lot of experience and it shows when he is in court how he builds his case in front of the judge one brick at a time. He won several hearings for me and one trial and one mediation.

Rich was by far the best attorney I have had! I was impressed by his knowledge of family law matters and his attentiveness to my case. He always kept me informed and was quick to respond to my emails and phone calls. He also genuinely made me feel cared for as a client as he helped navigate the challenges faced. The billing was phenomenal. Often that is one of the most stressful parts of a case. I had previously gone with a few attorneys who had excellent ratings and reviews and they left me wondering if there was a decent attorney out there. I quickly learned that good attorneys are hard to come by. Often I left stressed out of my mind and in worse shape than when I came in. When you are going through a tough case you need top notch representation for your mental and physical health. Looking back, most of the ratings were either from other attorneys or clients from simple and straightforward by the book cases. I appreciated speaking with Rich on a regular basis and forming a positive attorney client relationship until the end. Often you only see your attorney in court and otherwise speak with paralegals. Please do not hesitate to set-up a consultation with Rich. It will save you the time of having to go through multiple consultations to find the right one or multiple retainers as you change attorneys before your case is settled. Highly recommend.

I hired Hugh Bailey to handle a case for me in Lee County, and I couldn’t have been more satisfied with his services and the result. Anytime that I contacted Hugh with a question about the case or the situation as a whole he either answered immediately or got back to me the same day. He was able to get my charges in Lee County dismissed, and also helped me find a good lawyer to handle separate charges that I had in a different county. I was 100% percent satisfied with his services, and I would recommend him to anyone in need of a lawyer!

Despite my complicated case, Carole significantly made progress towards a settlement by working with the opposing counselor and moving things forward. I was working with a different attorney and unfortunately, things weren't going anywhere for more than 6 months. When that attorney left the office and Carole was assigned to work on my case everything shifted for the better. She is very cooperative, responsive, and very approachable at any time to answer questions or even just rant about the situation. Thanks to her communication skills with the opposing counselors, My case was settled and I got divorced without compromising any of my rights.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
