Mr. Maccarini has helped me through a divorce, and the custody issues that come with it, with a compassion and dignity I did not think I could ever find in a lawyer. I have relied on him several times since 2008, and he has never failed me in any way.

The Romanucci Lawfirm was very professional from the beginnig. Before I met with Mr Romanucci, his assistant instructed me to bring in any and all documents pertaining to my case. When I met Mr Romanucci to discuss my case, I was immediatley put at ease. Mr Romanucci listened attentively as I rambled on about my perdicament. Mr. Romanucci handled all the paper work and kept in constant contact with me during the process.I met with him the day before the trial to completely prepare me and review the facts of the case. This meeting helped to ease my fears. On the day of the trial, Mr. Romanucci met me early to again review my case and ease my nerves. We one our case. When the case was appealed, Mr. Romanucci handled the appeal and won yet again. I Had a different Lawyer for my divorce and wish I had know about him then. Its hard to know what questions to ask when interviewing an attorney, but I have learned that a good attorney likes to WIN!

Tama has given my family, friends and I free legal advice on several occassions. Her reasoning is, "she doesn't want to take advantage, she would much rather advise you how to handle the matter if possible. She has represented me in court on two occassions. In a nutshell, she simply awsome. On one occassion, I expressed the fact that I was very nervous. She simply smiled and stated, "You have nothing to worry about...that's why you hired me, so you will not have to be concerned. Needless to say, she has never disappointed me.

I retained Mrs. Voit in 2007 for a petition to relocate my children. She did not waste my money and has good relationships with other attorneys. This relationship with opposing cousel, who is known for being obstinate, really paid off. We had a meeting and she calmy laid out a fair offer and walked the opposite side into her offer. I got everything I wanted and made some concessions that didn't hurt. She kept me reasonable and squished my desire to "win" against my ex, but kept it about the kids. She is fiesty and very busy. You must stay on top of her is all I would caution.

I went to have a consultation with Jane and she easily could have told me that I really needed a lawyer for my custody issue. Instead, she gave me sound advice, put my mind at ease and told me what I could do without a lawyer. I admire her honesty. In the future, should I need a family lawyer, I will go to Jane.

He is a fighter. He gets things done, and I have never lost a case with this man. I had a broken back and he got me a much larger sum then was offered, and when I had to fight for my daughter he was honest and direct with me for what I could expect and he got done exactly what he said he could. I was a student at the time and he even helped me out with a payment plan. He literally goes over and beyond and I would recommend Mr Gatto to anyone!

Mr Lahiri assisted myself and my son in navigating through legal charges that my teenage son had brought against him. Mr Lahiri took the time to speak with my son and I and explained all the possible consequences. He helped us decide on a course of action as we went to the court room. He spoke with my son to explain to him the serious nature of the charges and then ultimately helped us achieve a positive resolution. I have a great deal of gratitude for the assistance he provided to us. I would recommend his services to anyone seeking legal counsel. Mr Lahiri is thorough and brought us through a very difficult situation with the best possible outcome

Scott represented me on a custody case after being chosen as my assigned counsel by the Family Court. Although, I ultimately chose not to pursue my preferred custody arrangements by having my case proceed to a trial, instead settling the case for the time being, from beginning to end, Scott’s presence in my case made a dramatically positive difference both in and out of the court room. Prior to Scott being assigned as my attorney, I was represented by three other paid attorney’s who over-charged, underperformed, and actually contributed to influencing the stressful nature of a custody proceeding by their inability to empathize with the stress- inducing circumstances of the case, exercise patience, or consider my wishes above what they thought was best for my case. In contrast, with Scott as your attorney, you will be paying for (or in my case assigned at no cost) an attorney who is of unwavering integrity, exhibits steadfast patience, and always willing to place himself in your shoes when times get tough in your case. Uncomfortable, intense, and enduring emotions are central to the majority of Family Court Proceedings. Litigating a custody case is an experience than requires far more than an attorney with years of experience in a court room or an inflated ego. It requires an Attorney who is able to relate to the human element of the case, and be a source of wise and compassionate support while simultaneously contending with the legal component of the case with talent, skill, and ability to negotiate. Scott embodies this balance of empathy, knowledge, and expertise. I say with confidence that anyone who decides to retain Scott as their attorney will be stronger and more properly prepared to both fight and tolerate the litigating of their legal case. Considering this attorney was my assigned counsel, he was ‘underpaid yet over-delivered.’

Ms Edwards is by far the best, most competent lawyer I have ever had. I've been in and out of court with custody/visitation issues for my daughter. Ms Edwards helped me settle with my ex out of court and helped me get an agreement so I can move out of state and move forward with our lives. I should also mention that she did this in just two visits with her! She is a professional and wonderful person and I will be happy to recommend her to anyone.

In my opinion, Allen Tullar is one of the best Family law Attorneys in the Lehigh Valley. I came to Attorney Tullar with a very difficult Child Custody case and he took the time to listen to me, give me advice on the proper course of action to take and even allowed me to bend his ear when things seemed like they were going wrong but we're really going the way they were supposed to go. Allen and his firm are professional, compassionate and a pleasure to work with. They care about you as a client and not just about the billable hours. If you need compassionate yet aggressive family law representation, call Attorney Tullar before your spouse does.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
