Mr. Mitchell mediated my case this week. I was totally unaware of what happened in a mediation, and he made me feel at ease and explained the process in detail. I am convinced that, coupled with the excellent work my attorney had done previously on the case, Mr. Mitchell's expertise and calm demeanor were also responsible for the excellent outcome of the case. I highly recommend mediation and specifically Mr. Mitchell as a mediator.

I contracted the services of Ms. Arencibia to represent me in a loan dispute. I felt that she cared about my case and she went the distance it took to win. One thing that I really liked about Ms. Arencibia was being able to reach her. If I left a voice mail, she would always return my call promptly. I would not hesitate to contract Ms. Arencibia again.

Ms. Parker represented me in a civil matter. From day one, I knew my case was in good hands. She was very knowledgeable regarding the laws applicable to my case, took time to educate me about the process from filing the lawsuit to entering the courtroom. Ms. Parker always kept me informed about the status of my case and showed compassion when the wheels of justice turned slower than I expected. Unlike other Attorneys I have dealt with in the past, Ms. Parker was more "human" than most, while ignorant to the laws, Ms. Parker never made me feel that way. She exercised patience, when I had none, she was calm, when I was off the chart, and she treated me as though I was the only client with a case. If I am EVER in need of the services of an Attorney in the future, Ms. Parker will definitely be my choice and I have recommended her to family, friends and colleagues.

Fern has served as mediator for literally dozens of my cases and has rarely failed to achieve settlement. I understand that she has a 92% success rate and in all matters for which she is engaged, and that rate of success is consistent with my and my clients' exerience. In all of my matters in which she has been involved, she always attended well prepared, was knowledgable o the applicable facts and law. Repeatedly over the years, she has done wonderful work, always developing great repore with my clients, myself and opposing counsel. She has worked as both plaintiffs and defense counsel and therefore has a unique perspective that serves all parties well when mediating cases. I could not recommend a more qualified mediator anywhere.

I live in Huntsville, Al and needed a lawyer who was able to mediate a situation for me. I had tried for four years to settle a warranty issue with a builder and was unable to settle. Mr. Turner worked with me and their attorneys and reached the settlement I deserved. Mr. Turner kept in contact with me and always returned my e-mails and phone calls. Anyone needing a great lawyer should call Mr. Turner.

Michael did an excellent job of getting my case regarding a non-compete agreement settled with minimal monetary effects and I was able to keep my job. His knowledge of employment law and his professionalism with the judge and opposing counsel helped me win a case that I was initially told by other attorneys was not a winnable case.

I highly recommend Attorney Paul Davenport! We were victims of a Federal Crime. Our identity, a million dollar home, our family destroyed and everything we owned stolen. Our credit was ruined and we were left financially dead. We hired another Attorney (not Attorney Paul Davenport) whom made a hot mess of the entire case. We fired that attorney after almost 4 years of doing little to help us after spending tens of thousands of dollars. We moved our case to Attorney Paul Davenport of Lombardi, Walsh, Davenport and Amodeo, P.C. In two months time, he did more than the former Attorney did in nearly 4 years. He saved our lives! Literally! His work ethic is for real. He does what he say's he is going to do. You don't have to babysit it! You don't have to call to see what is happening. He does it! He keeps you informed! He is competent! He is smart! He is an A+ Litigator. He does Discovery for preparation for trial in a manner that few do. He does it right! He is worth EVERY penny we spent! We are not someone of great financial means and paying him was a huge sacrifice, but it is the "peace of mind" you cannot put a price tag on? After hiring him, I let it go and let him do his job and we slept for the first time in years. He never let us down! He is man of his word. One day I emailed him and said, "Win this!" "Do the best you can!" His response was, "it's the only way I know how!" It made me cry. If you knew what we had been through, you would understand. He is our Attorney for LIFE! I highly recommend Paul Davenport of Lombardi, Walsh, Davenport and Amodeo law firm. If you have a legal issue. You cannot find a better Attorney!

As a new business owner, I was looking for an attorney to assist me with setting up operating procedures, rules and regulations for my employees. Tim did a great job in that regard, providing me with an employee handbook tailored to my needs and my particular business. As with most businesses, I have had some issues with some employees and Tim has always been there to provide me with the support I need to protect my business and my investment. He is very responsive to my calls and keeps me updated with changes in the law that may have an impact on my operations. His fees are more than reasonable compared to the larger firms hourly fees and I can’t imagine them providing me the personalized service and quality work that I get from Tim.

I hired Derek back in 2010 in order to help me expunge an old DUI case I had from years before. His expertise came recommended and he did not disappoint. Derek presented me with all of the information that I had asked regarding the process, how would it effect future employment as well as the costs associated with completion. He was completely professional, informed me ahead of time of his plan and executed it precisely how to detailed it to me. I would highly recommend his services for all expungement and/or DUI mitigation.

Caroline was recommended to me after a bad car accident by an attorney who is a personal friend. She promptly visited us at our home and spent the morning getting details about not only the incident, but about us and our lives. She was kind and friendly. Her questions showed that she was an expert in these cases, and we hired her to represent us. From that point forward, she was unfailingly responsive to every issue that came up, especially medical bills and dealing with a difficult insurance bureaucracy. She handled all of the paperwork and reporting that was related to the accident. She always kept in touch and always responded promptly to us. We were impressed with and pleased by her work and by the settlement she obtained for us. We would absolutely hire her again if we needed legal representation.

Betsy came on to my case at a time where I'd all but lost hope that my case would be resolved within a reasonable time frame. The original lawyer assigned to me had left the firm in what was to be a blessing in disguise. From my first in-depth conversation with Betsy, I felt a sense of relief that she'd taken over my case. Betsy is communicative, knowledgable & PRESENT. Never was I left to wonder what was happening & she always made an effort to explain each step in a precise & straightforward way. Betsy has an open, warm & refined manner, but make no mistake; she is a Bulldog in professional clothing:) I must also add that her legal assistant Victoria is a multi taskmaster & together they don't miss a beat. Thank you Sobo & Sobo; great hiring on your part

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
