She was supposedly my children's lawyer through my divorce appointed by the courts. Seems more like she was my ex's lawyer. During the 6th month case I called twice to discuss different things and left a voicemail. I got a call back maybe 3 weeks to a month later, by that time I didn't even need nor want her involved. My lawyer couldn't get in contact with her when he needed to and said she was hard to get a hold of. She also told my lawyer that she needed to do a walk through before the court date to make sure my house was okay for my children. She wouldn't tell him what day she was going to come because she wanted it to be a surprise. That was about 3 months into a 6 month case. She never showed up. So apparently my children's safety was not that important to her. At the courthouse on the last day of the case she hung out with my ex and my ex's lawyer and avoided me like the plague then sent me a bill. There's much better lawyers out there who will actually respond to you when they're involved in your case. This is just my opinion. I don't know anything about Acacia other than being involved in my case, but I can understand when the other review says that she's hard to get a hold of.

My husband and I hired Mr. Trevino to help my husband with his residency and it’s been the longest time waiting, without knowing anything. I do not know if he is good or not because we have spoken to him ONCE and through a video call were we could even get to see him, so basically just a phone call. They have the worst customer service, secretary is rude and they never know anything. Plus, that’s once in a million when they answer the phone, which is completely rare. As of today we haven’t received any answers, and when we get to speak to any of them, they just ask for money. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

I hired Jorge Treviño to help petition my girlfriend under VAWA. He charged me 50% upfront. He did open a case but soon after that, he stopped answering my calls and texts. His secretary at the firm also stopped answering my calls. I regret hiring this lawyer I just wish he was more honest with me and tell me what actually was going on to help my girlfriend instead of wasting our time and money. Please go to a different immigration lawyer thank you.

I really liked Leslie on a personal level. We hiredanother lawyer for a criminal case and he brought her in to consult as he was not experienced enough to handle it. She really knew her stuff and showed much compassion. We were supposed to have another hearing within a month of going to court and it was never scheduled. I repeatedly asked her what the status was and if I got a response at all she would say "I'll see what I can do to speed up a date." and nearly a year later we finally got her to have the court schedule it after going back to our original lawyer who had to contact her twice. I would not have hired her again for custody due to this but she was very good. I also looked up the docket sheet myself and saw that the court had scheduled this hearing for 2015, 2 years after it was supposed to be scheduled. I assumed this is what took so long and that it was not her not doing the job. I figured she was having trouble with the courts bc the hearing was scheduled and no one could find it. So, my husband and I hired her agin to handle child custody. I asked her she would be able to file papers the first week in Dece, bet and she said yes. The case took an unsurprising turn and so we waited 3 weeks to make a decision on what to do. We needed to add a lot more detail to our filing and decide if we wanted to go that route. We did and she was to file the papers the week of Christmas. Never happened. I did not hear from her from the day we returned the papers to her that week u til January 23. The response Ito was that she had some health problems and was down for a little while and she would see what she could do about a date. I knew then and there that she never filed the papers because if she had we would have gotten a letter in the mail from the court with the date. I have contacted her weekly since that day in January and gotten no response. NONE. I finally asked for a refund for the deposit we gave her and haven't heard back on that either. Surprise, surprise. She really messed up this case for my husband bc we needed to act on something his daughter's mother was doing immediately. She totally dropped the ball. If you can get her to respond to you though, kudos bc she really does know her stuff. What good is that though if she doesn't do the work you hire her to do?

Mr. Richards is a Godsend!!! I had know idea what to do!! I just got my second DUI in one of the toughest areas in Oakland County (W, Bloomfield) and I was losing my mind!! First he calm me down and he lead and guided me through the process step by step like he could see the future and was honest with me from the beginning! he let me know that I was going to do jail time, but what was important that we was going to concentrate on trying to do all the right things so I wouldn't have to do the Max!! (Which is 93 Days) His Professionalism and his Guidance got me through the process! I did 14 Days, which was a blessing! He took the time to contact my family that lives out of town to let them know what was going on and also my Employer and I really believe that what help me keep my job!!! And if anyone knows about the process with the courts on DUI's you need money! I can't thank him enough!!! Its nothing easy about this situation or the process, but he made it easier to digest the situation I put myself in!! He's My Friend, My Brother and My Lawyer!! Thank You for Guiding me and getting my life back on track!!!

I hired Zach to handle my divorce, at first he was great, told me everything I wanted to here and I actually felt good. Fast forward several months, Zach has been paid 10s of thousands, he stops communicating, and for six weeks sat on a request and deadline to provide certain documents. He waited 6 weeks, after two deadlines passed to finally provide me with the motion. It took me 2 weeks to get my documents, but since he waited so long, I was required to pay my wife's attorney fees. This is just the start. Please follow Colorado Attorney Regulatory Counsel -#24-1750 case to track this and the rest of the 8.4c violations being raised against Mr. Newland. This man NOT and attorney, he is a CON

This attorney from day one when he took my money he started billing me for just giving him money then he stopped answering my phone calls And then while I’m in prison, I find out that my appeal got dropped in September 2023 January 2024. I finally get in touch with this attorney and he says oh I sent you a letter. Did you get it in which he lied he never sent a letter And then he sends a letter and it gets there two weeks later in January 2024 when my appeals case was dismissed September 2023 now I’m asking him for my paperwork. He is refusing to handover my paperwork if somebody’s looking for a lawyer, do your research do not hire this lawyer he is not a lawyer , he’s a con man feeling money from people just like two other attorneys I hired and spend over $100,000 on a case that I still ended up going to prison people beware of this guy.

The only thing Zachary Newland is good at is making excuses. He charges $395 per hour for you to listen to him complain and make excuses for not filing that motion or making that phone call. He will blame it on his personal life, his schedule, his problems. He is consistently several hours late to scheduled appointments. He will ignore you for weeks or even months at a time, then come back with excuses for not achieving anything on your case. "The District Attorney was mean to me" is not a valid excuse to abandon your duties. In regards to my case, Zachary Newland only managed to produce two documents in total: his entry and his withdrawal. This somehow cost me several thousand dollars. His excuse? He "needed time to think." My advice is: don't waste your money paying Zachary Newland to think.

Mr. Nick was paid 20k dollars for a trial but when the case didn't allow for a trial and Mr. Nick refused to return the money. I am forced to file a complaint with the State Bar. If I could give this lawyer Adam Farkas no stars I would. Adam was very unprofessional. We paid this lawyer for a first appearance that he didn't even show up too! First appearance was reschedule and Adam had every excuse for not being present at the time of the call instead of taking ownership of missing the zoom. On top of that Adam requested more money for "filing". He did so many things wrong in so little time. It was a complete mess! We had to switch to another lawyer. Adam represented me in a traffic citation, which is 'light’ work for him because most of his work is in serious criminal charges. I am an attorney myself, but not a criminal defense attorney, and I was very pleased to see Adam pursue the weak points of the charge against me by succinctly and clearly, but not obnoxiously objecting to irregularities and questioning the witness against me. His courtroom demeanor was highly effective in bringing out the judge’s sense of fairness against the bogus charge against me. In fact, Adam brought out many points showing that the opposing witness is the guilty party, which is the actual situation, so I won ‘hands-down’. The policeman who was in the hearing room to keep people from brawling kept looking at me like he hated me, over a traffic accident over which he had no prior knowledge, all he knew was that I was a defendant, so it goes to show you the prejudice of law enforcement against defendants, (you know the idea, that if a policeman said it, it’s the gospel truth), which Adam Farkas was able to completely overcome by raising very important points about the state’s case and the testimony of the opposing witness. In fact, Adam Farkas raised important verifiable and unquestionable factual points that show that the alleged infraction by me was completely physically impossible, which are facts that the policemen should have known, but didn’t know, and that won the case for me. He didn’t even need me to testify, I just sat there listening to Adam bring up important questions about the facts of the accusation and to question the opposing witness about facts that showed the illusion that I had committed a crime. Adam also told me about a hearing he had earlier in the day in a felony case in which he scorched the evidence against his client, and won that one too. He is the best criminal defense attorney that I know of. Would I hire him again? Absolutely yes. I even paid him more than he asked, out of gratitude for his good work. While the bulk of my legal work as an attorney is in transactional work, I was co-counsel at a U.S. Supreme Court case (on prisoner rights) so I am familiar with courtroom advocacy at the highest levels, and Adam was as good as the attorneys I have seen at the U.S Supreme Court. The world needs attorneys like Adam Farkas to stop false charges against people. He definitely has a gift for this kind of work.

Brought me in office under the guise I needed his services when all I needed was a CPA, his free phone referral could have given what I needed, instead he brought me in and as charged me 300.00 for something he could have easily told me on the phone. He stated to bring 3,000 - 5,000 dollar retainer based on the complexity of the case.. There was nothing complex about it. He was a 30 minutes late, but sent his Dad who was equivalent to a used car salesman and went on and on. Even when I found out they were not able to help me, they still engaged me in questions, taking advantage of my naivety of the situation. They gave me the impression, and wasted my time with meaningless questions only to refer me to a CPA (their friend) who wanted to charge me thousands for things totally unnecessary. If you have rather grey area, do not contact them, they will string you along, contact a CPA first. I had no legal issues, and they should have had the kindness to tell me this in our "free consultation" shame on both of them.

I had a terrible experience with Gordon Armstrong. I received a speeding ticket in March 2014 and had a court date in May, which he failed to appear to, and another in August that he failed to appear to. However, I was completely unaware that he did not appear in court until I received a letter from the state that said my license will be suspended if I do not pay a fine and appear at the following court date. He appeared at the court day and was told there was a fine I needed to pay and enroll in a defensive driving course to have the ticket dropped. However, he never told me about the fine so in Novemeber I got a letter telling me that a 30% fee had been added to the fine because I failed to pay the fine. Eventually after submitting the paperwork and sending l multiple fines to Alabama, the ticket was dropped as long as I did not get another ticket for six months. But this was not fully resolved until March 2015. It took him an entire year to deal with the ticket through him. In addition, he and his office have very poor communication skills. I called many times without an answer and rarely received a call back. I also sent Mr. Gordon Armstrong many emails checking on the progress of the case and didn't get a response. Even voicemails and emails I composed about payment and having an invoice sent to me were seemingly ignored. I would not recommend this lawyer to anyone. He is careless, irresponsible, and extremely unprofessionall.

As a client, I did not like that he constantly boasted of select past cases and I also did not like the ongoing attorney/client disagreements. My recommendation? Take your chances with another attorney. I’ve also noticed one of his employees recommended him in a review. I’ll end this review as I started it: “Caveat Emptor or Retain at your own RISK.”

Is a completely incompetent lawyer. Doesn’t validate information, acts off of hearsay. Cost my family thousands upon thousands of dollars in litigation fees. He is out for his own well being makes extremely POOR JUDGMENT decisions. Should not be associated with any public service to social well being activity. Do not hire this man he will draw out litigation fees and soak you for every penny.

Attorney was hired. Be sure to ask questions and understand your case. He is a flat fee attorney, be aware of what that means and how much he will and won't work on your case. Very little was done on my case. Do your research and do not rely on reviews or credentials.

He is an attorney that is extremely knowledgeable in various aspects of the law and did an awesome job at helping me remain confident. He doesn't beat around the bush and tells it how it is where as some attorneys will tell you what you want to hear just to get cash from your pocket. I felt very comfortable with him as my attorney and would highly recommend him to anyone that is in need.

I consulted Mr. Caleb on a case, he was not timely in his responses, his suggested approach seemed to push the legal envelope, and his office staff was unorganized and rude.

I was referred to Mr. Muldoon by a friend for my divorce. He made it all sound so easy. In the end, the final court appearance, he threw me to his associate. The final outcome was NOT what I agreed to. And I can't argue the facts because he didn't file the oral stipulation with the clerk's office! As I just learned recently. Every attorney should treat a client like they would want to be treated. I think Mr. Muldoon likes writing about law more than he likes practicing it.

No reason to fear this place they drag out chump change cases and have newbies and interns do all the work. Big companies spend more money in litigation than they would have if they settled. Stay away!!!

Definitely would not recommend for hire… they purposely dragged out our case. The Plaintiff was more than willing to settle for way less than they was in the beginning but the attorney never said a word. No calls, communication and very unprofessional. Wish we saw these reviews beforehand.

  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
