Mr. Colon is young, but is very highly experienced. He was incredibly helpful and attentive to my case, as well as very honest with the outcomes I could expect. He didn’t necessarily under promise but he did over deliver. I would recommend him to anyone, on his own or in conjunction with Mr. Lirot’s help.

I cannot recommend Joshua Needle highly enough. He is an excellent appellate lawyer, expert in criminal matters and a fine writer, a trait not shared by many of his peers. I engaged Josh three years ago to step in and write an emergency appeal for a case that was already on the appellate court’s calendar. The first attorney I hired completely bolloxed the appeal both in conception and execution. Josh was able to step in, review the (extensive) trial record, write a compelling brief and present oral arguments in an efficient and timely fashion. Subsequently, Josh provided immeasurable assistance when we found ourselves in arbitration with our original appellate attorney in an effort to retrieve a fee we felt wasn’t earned. The OCBA agreed with us and ordered the fee returned. Our relationship with Josh was extended when this attorney, rather than return the fee as ordered, instead sued us for breach of contract. Josh represented us through a ridiculous thicket of motions, discovery, expert witnesses, idiot judges, arbitration and resolution. Even though my relationship with Josh sprang from one appeal, circumstances enabled me to see Josh at work on three different actions. He demonstrated considerable legal breadth and helped rehabilitate my confidence in the legal profession.

During a time when we were hit with a surreal situation, Attorney Sara Ross made herself easily accessible to us, was realistic, but very gentle with the reality of what we were facing. She provided excellent representation. She was appointed to us as a public defender and I now know I wouldn't have wanted anyone else. I was grateful she was our attorney. Highly recommended and if she ever goes into private practice, I know she will be a great success!

David Zugman is an amazing lawyer. My previous lawyer I had for 9 months while i fought my case and kept telling me I was going to get a 10 year mandatory minimum. When my previous lawyer was dismissed due to a conflict of interest, David became my lawyer. From the beginning, I told him I would not sign of 10 years. He said give him a week. A week came and he brought me a 5 year deal. David fought for me every step of the way. He was also able to get me off probation early. I highly recommend David Zugman.

Franklin was so incredible throughout this process. He was the first lawyer I interacted with when I walked into the Bloom Firm, and his kindness & empathy and understanding was the reason I chose the firm. I never once felt like it was about money for him, and I needed to feel that way. I was extremely vulnerable and untrusting (domestic violence case) but for some reason I felt able to trust him. He made me feel that what I was doing was the right thing, even when I felt like it wasn’t. I’m so appreciative for him and all that the Bloom firm did. Franklin was incredible and I feel fortunate to have him on my team.

Mr. Moreno is a very knowledgable attorny in the field of inmigration. My mom and I have refered friends to him and the experience has been amazing. In one case, Mr Moreno was able to tell one of these families the time that it would take to resolve the problem to the date! I have gone to him twice once to his office in semoran and the other to his office in Kissimmee, the consultation has been very productive, firendly and he took the time to explain all possible avenues in a clear, concise way. My brother has also use his services. I endorse and recommend Mr. Moreno with no reservations what so ever.

Andy was my guide through an investigation that lasted a year and a half, and ended with the investigation being dropped. When selecting a lawyer, having someone you trust to be honest with you is critical, which was one of the main factors in selecting him to handle my situation. I valued his directness, responsiveness, tact, and flexibility in handling my scenario. Highly recommended! If I ever would find myself in a situation where I need a lawyer again, he would be my first call.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
