He arrived at the jail at 2AM after being called after 1AM. It was apparent that he was a well known and respected attorney. I was released on bail in a speedy fashion. Which became the theme of the entire process. Charges were dismissed in a speedy fashion decreasing the potential for large unnecessary legal fees. This confident man gets the job done!

This man is what all lawyers should be but sadly never are. Smart, compassionate, fair and will truly represent your interests. He absolutely save me after other lawyers had wildly over billed and grossly underperformed. He is the absolute real deal. If you need help from someone who is actually concerned with your case and not billable hours then you will be truly lucky that you have him in your corner. He renewed my faith in lawyers.

Mrs. Bradley helped me get reinstated and keep my job. She took the time to actually listen to me and "saw outside the box" because I spoke to many lawyers and no one was able to help me. Mrs. Bradley understood what I was fighting for. She is very knowledgeable and is interested in fighting for justice!

I hired Julie and her husband, John Convery, to represent me in a military general court martial. It was a complicated case with false allegations stemming from a divorce. Julie is very knowledgeable and versed in the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). She was always very professional and worked tirelessly on my case. Julie was able to work with the area defense counsel to ensure that my legal team was always on the same page. Her advice was always spot on, and she helped me get through a very difficult time. Julie flawlessly led a defense team made up of multiple lawyers and other professionals, and she always kept me informed on what was going on. She never seemed too busy to answer my questions and always returned my calls. The result of her superior legal expertise, professionalism, and hard work was invaluable during our five day trial. The end result was a verdict of not guilty on all charges. Julie Hasdorff and John Convery are two of the best military defense attorneys in the entire state of Texas. Julie, thank you for all of your hard work and expertise while representing me. It means the world to me!

I retained Joseph as my attorney for a modification to my divorce agreement after my ex hired a very aggressive and litigious attorney to represent him and I will be forever thankful. My case was a success, great results and issues were solved quickly. He is definitely someone you want in your corner-especially where innocent children are involved. He is a kind, caring professional who is extremely dedicated to his clients and I highly recommend him.

Jim did a fantastic job on my traffic tickets. I originally appeared in court with a different attorney that wasn't getting offers from the DA that I found acceptable. I hired Jim, and he took care of it in one appearance. As I write this I am in the process hiring Jim for a Divorce and also a civil lawsuit.

If you need solid representation, Wayne J. Payne is the man! I am going to hire him to help my daughter. I visited her in jail today. Epic! Happy and sad. Mostly happy, she's amazing! A man walks into a restaurant and calls me by name. I'm the bartender. He knows my first name without introduction and I know his full name. Men like us need no introduction. Wayne J. Payne (the J. is silent) is one of the most intelligent and respectful man I've had the privilege of meeting. He's hired!

Vicky Trompler was excellent from start to finish. She was efficient and clearly explained what I needed to do. Importantly, by talking with me, she teased out details of the case that turned out to be very important. I have used her twice and both times she was just as impressive. It is a relief to know that someone as capable as she is has your back.

Vance represented me in North Carolina about 15-20 years ago on some difficult charges related to losing my driver's license (which I felt was unjustified). I found him to be extremely capable, professional, and competent while I most appreciated his straightforward assessment of my situation and some likely outcomes and/or possibilities. He does not sugar-coat nor is he overly pessimistic. An IVY league graduate and UNC-Law, Vance has complete mastery of the both the law and the political issues involving the court system. His knowledge was invaluable and he helped have my case adjudicated to my satisfaction.

Has been my attorney for the past 4 years dealing with false termination of government employment. Has handled all documentation and appeals efficiently. Has had me working alongside him to save me hours of chargeable hours. Accompanied me to both hearings and made a distinct impression on deciding official and judge. The government tried to bury us in paperwork and multiple delays. He stuck it out with me and we fought back. He found the "Smoking Gun" in my case and we showed it to the judge. Awaiting the judges decision, but has never let me down and has never been unavailable to me. Remember, when you hire an attorney, he will do as you want, but this is his occupation and his experience will set the pace. Trust your lawyer!!!! MSPB is now be to be without one. Highly recommend Anthony Walluk, no matter the outcome of my case. We went heel and toe with the government attorneys who had unlimited resources and he made a great showing!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
