Rebekah, with her specialized and unique background in education and law, was able to help me successfully strengthen my child's Individualized Educational Plan. This change to his plan, which was a battle to get accomplished, has greatly helped my child feel more successful in school. Before Rebekah, my son's IEP was not adequately addressing his unique learning style and various educational challenges. My son was overwhelmed with the intense curriculum of school even though he had an IEP. Upon reviewing my son's plan, Rebekah immediately understood what accommodations were missing and why. She was able to work through the red tape of my son's school district to get my son's needs adequately identified and addressed therefore he was finally provided with the accommodations he needed. Throughout this whole process, I found Rebekah easy to work with, very knowledge, always accessible and very persistent and dedicated to my child's cause. I highly recommend Rebekah Hope! She is a very good lawyer and great child advocate.

I retained Mr. Thiessen in 2007 to represent me in my Divorce Case. From the very start Mr. Thiessen was so on top of everything that I felt very confident that I had the best Representation possible. There was a large amount of money involved in a complicated case. We also had to file an Action in the Civil Courts, Brian Thiessen proceeded in the same integegrable fashion and represented me to the fullest. As if things weren't complicated already, my Father passed away during this time leaving his Trust. We ran into some major issues with other family members and had to file yet another lawsuit. During the course of eight years Brian D. Thiessen represented me in 3 Law Cases in which two of the cases went to trial. . Brian took care of everything with such Integrity that I never had to worry about anything. The end result was that we settled the divorce and won the two lawsuits. I can truly say that Brian D. Thiessen is among the most amazing people I have ever known. Brian got me through the most difficult time of my life. If your in need of the best representation you can get Brian D. Thiessen is the one. Thankyou Brian for staying with me and getting my life back to normal. My deepest gratitude. ***Three Thumbs Up *** Edward

I've hired several attorneys since 2007 to handle extremely difficult divorce/custody cases involving my children and an absolutely unreasonable ex-spouse. Mrs. Chapman handled two or three of those cases. Going forward, I will not even attempt to reach a settlement or step into a court room unless Claire is my attorney. She provided me with "high dollar" representation achieving the best possible outcome and without over charging me like some of the other attorneys did. I highly recommend her for your family law needs.

I hired Attorney Chappell as my Ex husband was in contempt for the 2nd time of property division from our divorce. She was well prepared and very professional. She even agreeed to a two week postponement on the contempt so he could get counsel. We went back to court and she presented my case with very compelling arguments in my favor and we won the contempt as I knew she would. Attorney Chapell is very knowledgeable in her field . A+++++

I know that we don't usually think of lawyers as good people. But Lindsay is a remarkably good person. And she's a marvelous attorney. I hired her twice for real estate deals. She closed the first one professionally and without hiccups. During the second closing the buyer's mortgage bank and lawyer were awful and the buyer was forced to extend the closing date four times. Through it all, Lindsay was fierce in her advocacy for me and never wavered from getting the job done at the original, agreed upon price. I can't tell you how much I valued having her on my team. I could have lost a lot of sleep while waiting for the close, but I slept easy knowing that Lindsay was my attorney. Through it all, Lindsay was kind, explained everything to me, was detail oriented (she rewrote the final numbers four times), worked beautifully with my real estate agent, and got the job done - as onerous as it was. I can never thank her enough for the lawyering she did for me. I swear by her. She's good people. And she's an excellent attorney.

Wow! This is the best Attorney around! This man can dig up things that you would have no idea he could find and prove it in court. He has empathy for his clients, is easy to talk to and he explains it all to you. He is very professional in his work and in the court room. Mr. Kern went up against a company and that company had a team of Lawyers that fought us all the way to the Supreme Court and Mr. Kern won our case for us. He's awesome! I highly recommend Mr. Bryce Kern for your case.

Very, very professional and absolutely trustworthy! ( I don't say that about many people.) He's highly skilled and knowledegable - fixes other lawyers' messes. I cannot recommend this attorney highly enough. After being a client for about a year an a half, I'm still impressed and very grateful for being referred to him. He's practical, no nonsense and won't to create more billable hours than necessary- he's got plenty of business. A brilliant guy - not cheap, but worth every penny.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
