Mr. Pewarski represented me in a serious Podiatric Malpractice case involving the loss of a limb of one of my patients. He was tremendously prepared, knew the Podiatric and Infectious Disease Medicine of the case as well as a doctor and his cross examination of the other side's experts was absolutely amazing. He stayed in close daily contact during the preparation leading up to the trial, and met multiple times with me until I was completely prepared to be a witness. I would recommend Mr. Pewarski to any health care provider who has the misfortune of becoming a defendant in a malpractice lawsuit.

What could be more important -- or daunting -- than selecting an attorney to represent you? Regardless of the type of case, it is crucial to have a good relationship built on mutual trust and respect. Mr. Donze came highly recommended to me, yet still managed to exceed my expectations. He has the rare combination of skill, breadth of expertise, years of experience, and compassion. He listens. He counsels. He goes to bat for you. He cares. His calming manner leaves you with the peace of mind of knowing things will be taken care of. He is confident and likable. Highly recommend.

Mr. Gerasimowicz and I have only emailed each other but he seems to actually be taking what people say seriously which really surprised me because I honestly never thought anyone would listen or care ... other lawyers commented but he actually took initiative which is making the situation a bit more comfortable , “especially when at least 15 different health caret professionals basically “shamed” me to theb point I just laid there quietly and when was caught off guard crying, I was made a fool of.. very unprofessional the way I was treated in the hospital I honestly expected the same from any lawyer.. when in fact I was correct about my situation and confirmed once I got the nerve conduct study, the man was kind and said your right, there is nobody home in your pinky and the rest of my hand is effected too. So long story short, Mr. Gerasimowicz DID NOT make me feel like I was lying or some hypochondriac , which Im VERY grateful for regardless if I have a case or not . He was actually my favorite pick as well as one other lawyer but I have to type left handed which Im terrible at and my rating of the lawyers that did respond I made a mistake and it doesn't allow you to edit it. After your “hospital shamed” which in itself can effect your trust level with ppl in those types of positions Mr. Gerasimowicz hasn't made me feel that way at all . I definitely would recommend him as he pays attention to detail even typos and reached out with what seemed to me with his fair opinion , he made no promises etc but taking the time to really reach out to someone thats been completely effected by the unprofessionalism by the hospital is what many people probably need.. so just for that in itself I think says alot about him .. so thankyou Mr. Gerasimowicz , I will be answering your newest email very soon . Once you’re made to feel like “its all your fault when you KNOW it wasnt” I can only imagine how many people just settle with that shame and never do anything and this is why more and more doctors and nurses don’t look at you as an actual person with a life, feelings or emotions and get away with it , meanwhile ppl sit home with an injury that never should have happened in the 1st place . So yes, I gave him 5 Stars just for being a kind human , thankyou Mr. Gerasimowicz

Mr. Cinnamon represented me in my workers' compensation case. I had never been injured on the job before and Mr. Cinnamon made the whole process easy. He took the time to explain every detail of my case to me and went above and beyond to answer all my questions. My payments were reduced and I was having a hard time making ends meet but Mr. Cinnamon was able to increase my payments and made sure that I didn't lose my house. I am very grateful and would highly recommend him to anyone that has been injured on the job. There are very few lawyers that take the time to really get to know you and make you feel comfortable. Mr. Cinnamon is one of those lawyers. Thanks again for all your help!

While having to defend a professional suit is unpleasant for any chiropractor, Doug FitzMorris and his team provided me with a feeling of utmost confidence by their experience and professionalism. I knew through the whole process that Doug was focused and had a plan. He was always available to me, responding quickly to my emails and phone calls. I always felt that my case was as important to him as it was to me! Doug provided detailed answers to my concerns and made large blocks of time available to prepare me for the trial. During our pretrial meetings we discussed all aspects of the defense, covering in detail the strategy and intricacies of the courtroom procedure. I got the impression that Doug was completely forthcoming about both the strengths and possible weaknesses of the case, and we were able to discuss them frankly. Having Doug and his team on my side made my experience an exercise in problem solving and strategy rather than one of anxiety.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
