This gentleman is one of the best lawyers, in the Midwest. He is a kind an gentle man. Not only was he knowledgable in his field. He gave me emotional support when I desperate needed it. For 4yrs this man was at my becoming call. I sometimes wonder, was I his only client. I had lost my career due to the accident at work. John fought hard for and won my case. He also directed me on how I should invest my money. I took his advise, I bought a small townhome . It was my dream home. Fireplace, bay windows, garden window, 2 car garage , with an indoor pool ( heated ) and an outdoor pool. I have live in my townhome for eleven yrs now. I thank God and John Larsen, for being a man of intergerte. Wow, what a man true to his profession. This is long coming. Thank you John Larsen for your time and consideration. God Bless You. In 2015 while on duty I was involved and injured in an auto accident which I was not at fault. Within days of my accident I began hurting with neck pain. After filing the proper paperwork for my claim I Immediately contacted Everett Law Firm and explained my situation. Mr. Bernard Everett and his professional staff accepted my case during my Free Initial Consultation. Everett Law fought for my rights and medical treatment when work comp denied me my work comp benefits. Mr Everett got all my benefits reinstated and without Mr Everett I’m not sure what the outcome would have been. If your injured and you have to deal with workers compensation or other insurance companies I highly recommend you go to an attorney that knows the law and will fight for rights. Everett Law Firm are the attorneys you need to call. They will always keep you informed about your case and what is going on with it from the Start to the End. They will take your stressful situation and definitely make it less stressful on you. Thank you Everett Law Firm for everything you have done for me and my family. Your truly the best and I Highly Recommend anyone that’s needs an attorney to call your office.

I hired Ms. Wolf after visiting a few lawyers in Wilmington. What made the difference and gained my trust was her vast knowledge of the law and her honesty about the possible outcomes of my worker's compensation claim. Ms. Wolf first referred me to the best specialist for my type of injury in Wilmington, then she went above and beyond her duty to make sure I was well taken care of financially throughout the legal process and finally she made sure that my well-being and permanent injury were well reflected in settlement. If you want a lawyer with expansive knowledge of worker's compensation law, that will not seek a quick settlement, and is always 2 steps ahead of opposing counsel and insurance companies then Ms. Wolf is what you are looking for.

I consulted with the Nelson and Nelson Law firm and Nate was assigned to my case. Mine was a difficult case because my Workman’s Comp insurance would not send me to a doctor nor was my employer helpful in my getting the care I needed. After nearly five years battling the insurance company and having to do all the healthcare on my own, it was necessary to force the hand of the insurance company. The only problem was, because my private insurance company was an ERISA plan, they had the right to claim all of my settlement to pay for my multiple surgeries. Nate was able to negotiate a fair settlement with them, which is virtually impossible to do. From the office staff to everyone in the office, they went out of their way to help to get my case settled and did not treat me as a number or just another client. I would highly recommend this office for any of your Workmen’s Comp claims.

I found out about Mr. warm by casually walking unannounced and it was the best thing I have ever done. He was personable and he informed me on everything I was about to face and balance the good out comes with the bad. He was very respectful, nice, and honest. I was very surprised that a lawyer can be that way. I had a back injury and he gave me the best doctor and best chiropractor. I have had A+ service all the way.

Mr. Goldberg worked hard for me and my wc/pi cases from the start till the end. He was available to answer my questions, calm my fears and prepare me for hearings. He sent me to good doctors and looked over the doctor's reports to make sure I received the care I needed. He fought with the adverse insurance to get my car fix and to get the money I deserved. He was very knowledgable, friendly and down to earth.

I think that at some point in their life, everyone needs some type of expert legal counsel. That time came for me when a trusted friend defaulted on a loan for which I had co-signed. I made a genuine effort to pay what was owed, but unfortunately a third party purchased the debt and I was left owing many times more than the primary lender had originally agreed to settle upon. Acting on the recommendation of a business associate, I contacted Mr. Gerstner for legal counsel to discuss my options for settling this matter. Upon meeting with him for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the level of detail/interest that Mr. Gerstner took in collecting the information needed to pursue my possible courses of action. He researched my case thoroughly before ever sitting down with me to discuss my settlement options. When we did meet for the second time, Mr. Gerstner was well prepared for the conversation and explained to me my rights in addition to those of the plaintiff. He didn't "sugar coat" anything, but was compassionate in suggesting how my case might best be resolved. I couldn't have been more pleased with this lawyer or the outcome of my case. Mr. Gerstner worked countless hours in preparing my proposal in a fashion that was acceptable to both parties. Mr. Gerstner's fees are very reasonable and I would highly recommend him to anyone requiring legal assistance in any of his various areas of expertise.

I worked as a temp in a local best buy and I had fallen and severely sprained my left ankle. I opened a workmen's comp claim and was receiving physical therapy until workmen's comp denied my claim, medical bills were coming in. So my mother and I hired Mr. Spitzer. Mr Spitzer made this nightmare go away and empathized with me while I suffered my injury. Under his representation the medical bills and debt collection stopped contacting me and workmen's comp eventually paid and closed out the bills. I'm so grateful to Mr. Spitzer. If it weren't for him I would have had damage on my credit for medical bills I was not responsible for. It was def a learning experience about how workmen's comp treats injured people.

Jack Knowlan is a former Missouri workers' compensation administrative law judge who now represents injured workers on compensation claims. I discuss certain practical aspects of difficult cases with him on a regular basis. What I most appreciate about Jack is not just his deep knowledge of workers' compensation, but his good judgment and insightful assessment of a wide variety of practical problems that arise in workers' compensation cases. He carefully prepares all his cases and keeps his clients well-informed.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
